Newbie Introduction [child mentioned]

I posted here a while ago, I think September 2015, but I don't think I actually ever did an intro post. So here goes:

I'm 32 and a nurse. I moved to Seattle almost a year ago with my husband seeking a change of pace, a better work-life balance, and a change in scenery. We love it out here - it's gorgeous, especially this time of year. My younger sister and her husband live out here with their little one who is now about 16 mos old, and a real cutie. My sister is my biggest support, second only to my husband. My mom is supportive as well, but my sister is my bff. I'm lucky enough to be able to take time off from work to do IVF. I'm not sure how I'd do it while working! I'll have to see what other nurses have to say about it (the shots, the appointments, the heavy lifting and activity restrictions, the last minute appointments, the timing.....).

My husband works in marketing, is 36, and was born with something called Prune Belly Syndrome which means we are working with MFI. We consulted a geneticist about 2 years ago to make sure there wasn't a genetic component to PBS, which so far it doesn't look like there is one (doesn't mean there for certain isn't, it could be just that it hasn't been located yet). We consulted with two IVF clinics here and chose the one we felt most at ease with and confident in, and I started the BCP late last month. All my blood work and US have come back normal. DH had a SA done and we weren't sure what to expect really. He had assumed all his life that he would have to adopt to have a family. After the SA, it looks like he does indeed make some sperm (with PBS, not all men do, and those who do have a low count and abnormal morphology, which is our situation), so we will be doing IVF this month! We are excited and nervous and frustrated, but mostly excited. Maybe equally excited and nervous. The frustration comes from trying to arrange our lives around the appointments, especially since I'm starting stims tomorrow and we have family and friends coming to visit from the east coast starting the weekend of the transfer. Best laid plans, am I right?

Anyways, I'm looking forward to connecting with folks here and having a place to go that's away from all the facebook and instagram pregnancy announcements.

  • @sunnynat2015 Thank you! I'm sorry your IUI cycle was canceled this month. I'm terrible at waiting, so I can only imagine how frustrating that is. We've been NTNP for 8 years or so. Good luck with your next cycle next month!

  • Welcome!  I mentioned in the July/August thread, we have MFI too.  What a miracle he had sperm and they don't seem to think your kids would necessarily be affected!!!  Amazing!  We are in a similar boat that we don't really have a known genetic reason for his issues, so hoping for the best in terms of children with unaffected fertility!  But either way, who can say.  Just having the chance to try together will feel like a true-life miracle.  GL cycling!!!  That's great you can take the time off during treatment!  How soon after successful transfer would you plan on going back?
  • @BusinessWife I plan on going back regardless of outcome mid-September. We have lots of people coming to visit us here, so this will allow us time to deal with the IVF and the visitors lol.
