Stressed after scan

Hi Ladies

So we went for a gender confirmation scan this morning...i am 17 weeks and 4 days....my doctor picked up on the scan that there is a part of my placenta thats not attached to my uterus.... There is no blood or bad cramping.... But i am sooooo stressed although she has told me not to worry as there is no bleeding....

Has this happend to someone before....as this is my first pregnancy and we battled 4 years to fall pregnant i am sooo scared something happens.....

Re: Stressed after scan

  • I don't have experience in this area but just take it easy and of you aren't feeling well make sure you go see your doctor... Praying all goes well.

  • Thanks so much :)
  • No I haven't experienced this. I know you are worried but try your hardest to listen to your Dr and not stress. I know it's easier sad than done.

  • I also don't have experience with this specifically.  Will your doctor continue to monitor you closely?  When will you have another ultrasound?

Keeping you in my thoughts.   <3

I haven't had this particular issue. But with DD2 there was a rather large cyst on her umbilical cord. And then after the delivery my doctor asked me if I was a smoker, like 8 times. Apparently the placenta had aging spots on it. Which is only seen in smokers and older pregnant women.
I'm not a smoker nor have I ever been, and I was 22 at the time of her birth... it was very strange.
But she was born, and still is, very healthy.

  • I have a scan at 20 weeks with a fetal specialist... Doctor said as long as there is no bleeding all is ok....so as soon as somethimg happens i must let her know.... So at this stage just praying and staying calm anf having faith everything will be fine....

  • Easier said than done, but try to trust your doctor's advice not to worry! Sounds like is a very good sign that there is no bleeding. Best of luck to you!
  • No advice or experience, just wanted to say I'm thinking great thoughts for you and your baby and I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.

I'm dealing with bleeding issues this pregnancy due to a cervical polyp and even though my doctor tells me it's no big deal, it's hard not to be terrified. So I definitely get it, it's hard to trust your doc 100% when something scary is going on. But, on the flip side, my experience is they aren't shy about telling you if they are worried about a potential problem. So I think you're probably in great shape since your OB doesn't seem concerned.

  • My sister had part of her placenta not attached, they had found it at an earlier appt and she was monitored more closely. It ended up reattaching itself around 22 weeks. Her specialist had told her sometimes the placenta breaks away and as long as there is no bleeding, that her and the baby would be fine. My niece is a happy/healthy 11 year old now. Stay encouraged mama!
  • I don't have experience with this, but just wanted you to know that I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Of course this is easier said than done, but I agree with the others that you should try not to worry since your OB doesn't seem worried.
  • Thanks ladies for all the encouraging words and prayers....really means alot....

Acgonzalez22 it helps to know that all worked out fine and that its something that can get better.... Thanks for the response....

I will keep you ladies posted...
