7/5 Weekly Appointments Thread

edited July 2017 in February 2018 Moms
Forgive me if I missed another appointment thread but when I searched, I only saw 6/24.

I went for a confirmation blood test on Friday. My leve was 3,200 at 6w1d. The OB said that's within normal range. I went back on Monday at 6w4 days and it was 12,600. The medical assistant called to schedule and ultrasound and follow up appointment next week. I'll be on vacation so I have to wait until 7/18. I asked her if things were ok and she was very reassuring but wanted to move my initial appointment from 7/31 to 7/18. The medical assistant had no further explanation.

From what I've read online, those numbers are within range and more than doubled in 48 hours. I want to be excited about the US, but I really want to know why they moved it. The only thing I came across is multiples but my understanding is that really doesn't correlate with increasing exponentially.

Sorry for the book ladies. I've not told anyone other than my husband and Mom so I keep reviewing this in my head.

Re: 7/5 Weekly Appointments Thread

  • I had a number kind of similar to yours at about 5.5 weeks (11,500) and when they called the nurse just threw out that it was 'elevated' which I didn't really know what that meant but she brushed past it. My ultrasound was fine, actually showed I wasn't even as far along as I thought, but I did notice on my chart the doc had written abnormal next to my beta hcg. No one ever acted concerned per say, they just wanted to make sure the dates were all correct and that everything looked good! So I wouldn't worry, they see so many hcg levels that I'm sure they just want to be checking on anything that is slightly outside their usual numbers. But those numbers can vary sooooo much person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy. Mine have never been this high in previous pregnancies but I'm only having one this time too!

I had my follow up ultrasound today since last week it was too early to pin down the heartbeat, and I was totally freaking out all morning but everything was fine! Baby grew a lot and had a very visible HB this time, measured at 127bpm. So so relieved. (TW I've had 4 previous losses before DS so these early scans are terrifying for me. I don't feel at ease til 2nd tri)

  • Thank you for sharing that! I breastfeed and don't have regular cycles so that's why I had the blood test to begin with. I'm beginning to think they want to make sure we have the EDD correct.

I can't believe how much numbers can differ! I've never looked at the ranges until today.  I looked back on mine with my son and they were much lower.
  •  Numbers that increase that much can possibly mean a few things.  It is good that they are getting you in earlier.  My numbers increased like yours and all is well currently.  Tw: I have had 5 mc's in the past and also am not at ease until 2nd tri.

Same at 5w5d my second beta was 14,244 the labs indicate elevated. The nurse never even mentioned it, just said labs looked really good.
Going for US July 10 at 8w3d.
  • You may just be further along than they initially thought so they scheduled the ultrasound sooner. I wouldn't worry!!

I just left our first scan, so relieved to see a heartbeat and a perfect little bean at 6w0d. The HB was 111 bpm.

  • Anxiously awaiting our ultrasound July 21... I should be 10 weeks at that time... I'll feel a lot more reassured about this pregnancy if all goes well at that appointment. Waiting is hard.

They're making you wait til 10 weeks even with your history? I'm surprised, RPL means early scans at most OBs around here! Waiting is hard, especially for this, hang in there!

TW:I have already had 2 ultrasounds.  The first we saw the yolk sac but no fetus. My doctor told me to come back 4 days later and we saw a fetus and heard hb of 113. I ovulated late.  But I have had 2 mmc's before and things looked good early... so my mind will be at ease if all is ok at the next appt.

the only reason the specialists could find that I had so many mc's is bc I ovulated late and my eggs weren't good quality. That makes me nervous bc I ovulated late this time also.

Waiting is the hardest part for me.

Thank you for the kind words.
