Infertility

Gonal-F

Hi ladies....wasn't sure where to post this but just looking for anyone who has experience with Gonal-F.

My dx is unexplained and I've had 3 failed IUIs with letrezole. Moving onto my 4th IUI with Gonal-F this time - I start tomorrow.  I know I'll have increased monitoring appointments but just looking for what to expect in terms of side effects or any other tidbits anyone would like to share. The search function didnt return much useful info.  TIA

Re: Gonal-F

  • I took Follistim which is the same as Gonal-F and had no side effects at all from it. Stomach got a little sore from shots, but that's about it. Last IUI cycle I got 4 follicles from it. :)

  • @tosh24 I took Follistim for TI with Ovidrel a little over a year ago.  Then last summer when it was time to do my first IVF cycle, there was a Follistim shortage, so my RE switched me to Gonal-F.  I was actually pretty miserable on both Follistim and Gonal-F, but was taking the Gonal-F along with Menopur for IVF.  I had stomach pains, nausea, vomiting, etc.  However, these issues could have been due to the bowel endo that we didn't know I had at the time... It's likely the drugs were stimulating the lesions, causing more discomfort than usual.  I just wanted to share, since you said your DX is unexplained.  Most likely you'll not have issues like the other ladies who posted, but if you find that you do, it might be a clue to an underlying condition.  FX that it's smooth sailing for you!

I'm on gonal f now and have been tolerating really well. You just dial up your dose. It's super easy. The needle is small and thin too

Thanks for the responses everyone! I don't feel quite as nervous now :)

@joneser1281 That sounds awful - sorry you had to go through that. I will definitely keep in tune with my body (how can you not while going through this process!) and seek help if things seem off. Thanks for your advice.

  • I did 3 rounds IVF each time using gonal f and didn't have any negative side effects and after getting initial fear of giving myself shots found it to be the easiest of all meds/shots
  • I just had my er today and I was on follistim. By far the easiest med to be on. Just some bloating and few bruises on tummy. You will do great
