Baby Names

Common or Uncommon Girl's names?

Hello! I love old-fashioned, but unique names such as: Matilda, Elise, and Iris. My husband hates unusual names and prefers common names from our age group like: Sarah, Ashley, Brittany etc. I finally thought of Laura/Lora, thinking that this would fit both our styles. However, he still doesn't like it. I am about to pull my hair out looking for a name that doesn't make at least one of us cringe. Do you have any ideas? Something feminine and sweet for me, but simple enough for him?

^^ This. Print out names or find a baby book. This is what I did with my husband. I have him highlight names he likes then I go off his list, there is usually at least 1 name you can agree on!!

    Laurel

My husband also kept suggesting names from our age group at first but I explained to him that I'd be scared they will grow up to sound like "Mom names" the way we associate Deb, Barbara, Kathy, Diane, etc with mom's in the generation above ours.  It wasn't that he was totally sold on those names (Jessica, etc) but just that those are the names guys are more familiar with if they don't think much about baby naming.  Try explaining to him that reasoning, show him graphs with name popularity over time, and maybe he will open up to some of your choices!
  • I think Elise is lovely.  But I agree with the others about printing out the Top 1000 list.
    Good luck!

  • Thank you! I think that's exactly our situation, but I didn't know how to explain it. I also love the name Laurel. :)
