So, she came over Saturday night right near the kids bedtime so DH and I could go to a movie. We purposefully went to a later movie so she wouldn't have to spend much time with the kids...they wear her out.
Taylor had a cold. Nothing big. Runny nose and cough. She's 4. I quit taking her to the doctor for every sniffle a few years ago after being told every single time "It's a cold...give it a few days."
So, before we even went, we called MIL and said "Hey Taylor has a cold. If you don't want to come over, that's totally fine." She insists on coming over.
She arrives and since it's nearly bedtime, I gave Taylor some medicine before we left so MIL wouldn't have to deal with it.
MIL tells Taylor after we left (and Taylor repeats it to us...she repeats EVERYTHING.) "Why hasn't your mom taken you to the doctor! You need to see a doctor! That's ridiculous...then they go to a movie!"
uhhhhhh....yeah. Nice thing to tell my DD.
Re: MIL vent....annoyed
OMG, I would say something. But, I am one to not keep my trap shut.
I do NOT approve of anyone speaking in a negative context about my childrens mother to my children.
Long story, but this one hits home to me and pisses me off.
Nice. MIL and I would be having a little talk about appropriate things to say to DD.
In my opinion, it's never okay to bash a child's parent in any way in front of the child or to the child. SIL is divorced and it used to kill me to see the look on her DD's face when she would be going on a tangent about her ex. I realize it's not exactly the same thing as what your MIL did, but you get my point.
