Raise Your Hand if You Have Braxton Hicks!

Hi gals!

Anyone else having a lot of contractions that are not labor?

Grrr... Not only is it painful, they feel so much like the early signs of labor that I remember. I confirmed with my OBGYN that that's what it is, been like this for weeks. What bugs me the most is how it's like "the boy who cried wolf". I'm learning to ignore them, but at some point it's gonna be the real deal.

Common mama's let's hear you vent about BH!

Re: Raise Your Hand if You Have Braxton Hicks!

  • I've had BH contractions every 8 mins since Saturday and menstrual type cramps in between. Went into the dr on Tuesday and she confirmed its normal and said to drink more water as usual. I'm 2cms dilated so at least they're doing what they're supposed to do! You'll get used to them!

  • @nktrodden826 8 minutes is my timing too! I have zero dilation so far though. Tomorrow I will be 37 weeks so it's still early.

  • @nktrodden826 I was reading reviews on my third trimester tea and apparently it DOes cause Braxton hicks! I had my second cup today... fingers crossed! Also, my doc said ftms usually don't get Braxton hicks..?
  • I've had BH since about 18 weeks.  My mom said that she had them with all 3 pregnancies from 16ish weeks on.  Mine have started to increase in intensity, some are painful and I've been getting a backache with some of them as well.  Doctor said drink more water; when I do, the pressure from needing to pee makes me contract, but am still told to drink.more.water.  I'm not a camel!

  • I've started noticing them more often now. They stop when I sit down. It's still so strange to me because I honestly still don't know what a true contraction is supposed to feel like. I feel the tightening at the top and then feel heaviness down lower, but no discomfort.

Constantly feel like I need to pee and feel like I'm not emptying completely.
  • Yup, I'm getting them quite a bit. im 38 weeks. Each time, I'm hopeful that it's the start of labor, but nope, no baby yet! They're just annoying and disappointing.
  • @BusyZee yeah I never got BH with my first and now I've had them for weeks!!

@SquirttheTurtle why is more water the answer to every pregnancy related issue **eyeroll**
  • Had them since 18 weeks...having a full bladder makes them worse for me. If I get up and move around they stop. Even though the ones recently have a lot more pressure and intensity to them, I know they are definitely not contractions or even early labor.

  • Ditto @dancegurl1118 about the increase in intensity lately. I've only noticed them in the past few weeks (approaching 39 weeks now), but they're definitely not real contractions/early labor. I'm not dilated at all.

  • @BusyZee yeah I never had them with DS but have had them regularly since about 35wks with this LO
  • I was having them & feeling them for a while (many weeks already) I think I mostly ignore them since I am used to them now.

  • I definitely had Braxton hicks contractions with my first. Have had them for a while with this one too, but I remember them more last time. Now they're just annoying and feel kind of gross
  • I'm a FTM and I definitely have them and have for a while. I notice them most when I have to poop.

    Same...especially if I overdo it.
  • FTM here and I've been having them for the better part of 20 weeks now. At first it was random, mild tightening but within the last few weeks they've definitely gotten more intense and lasting longer.
  • I've had them since somewhere around week 20.  Not fun. Super annoying.
  • I get them in any position. One happening right now actually. They happen when I walk in the street, when I sit at my desk, lying on the couch.

I didn't know they could start as early as 20 weeks, I feel for all of you who've had them so long.

I think I mostly hate the sense of false alarm all day. With DD, I never had them and when labor started I just knew. But now, I keep thinking I'll dismiss it and all of a sudden it'll be too late.

TTM and have/had them with all 3. This time they are actually hurting the past couple of weeks where as before they were just annoying. They have no purpose lol! Almost there ladies!
  • Yes, to much of what has been said! Mine have  been round the clock for two days now. I am not used to the extended periods of time and am ready for them to go away! Although they are only annoying, that added to my usual hip and back discomfort is really talking my motivation and sleep.
  • Mine started hurting yesterday. Mild pain, nothing to get excited about.
  • Ugh, yes!!! I don't remember having BH at ALL with my first pregnancy, not even near the end. This time I get them randomly, but I swear the last 24 hours have been more frequent with the occasional back pain at the same time. Is this early labour? False labour? Dehydration? I don't freaking know.

  • Yeah I puked so hard the other day that I gave myself braxton hicks. That was all sorts of fun.
  • @ladybray ugh that sounds awful! I'm so sorry!
  • I never got them with my first. Been having them for few weeks now(37 weeks today). They are growing with intensity and duration. Just in the last couple of days very minor cramps have started.

  • Definitely! This is #4 and I've had them more and more with each. I've had them this time since about 18 weeks, but they've gotten much more intense in the past week. Some feel pretty real, but most are just annoying and uncomfortable. My rule of thumb is - if I can talk through it - it's not real, so ignore it. Good luck ladies! This is the hardest part for me. Waiting and trying to be aware of your body but not too aware.
