Newbie ivf question

hey ladies quick question. Is it normal to have insane insomnia during stims ? I'm on a nice mix of follistism , ganirelx , menopur and haven't been able to sleep now on day 5. I am so tired the entire day and then by 9pm I am wired !!
Is it safe to take tryptophan or some melatonin ?

Thanks so much

Re: Newbie ivf question

  • Welcome!  Sorry you're having trouble sleeping... I have heard of women taking melatonin during ivf, as it's supposed to have added benefits to egg quality, however I would absolutely advise you to call your doctor or nurse's line and run anything new by them first... just to be on the safe side.

@sarajasonivf I'm sorry to hear that you aren't able to sleep.  I did my stimming/fresh IVF cycle last summer, so it's hard for me to remember (I never thought I'd say that!) but I'm sure I also had trouble sleeping.  But for me I think it was mostly related to stress.  I hated the whole process of needles and wondering what I was putting into my body and what it was doing to me long-term, so that freaked me out I think haha.  Could it be the time of day you are taking the meds?  If it's close to bed time, could you gradually bump it back each day until reaching a time that worked better to help you sleep at night?  I did that with my Estradiol because I thought it was keeping me up.  I was taking it at 9 PM and changing it to 8 PM seemed to help me.  I had trouble sleeping when I first started my Estradiol during my FET cycles.  I did ask a nurse about it in the fall during my first FET cycle and she said fatigue and tiredness are common and women often feel anxiety during treatment that can keep them up.  She said I could consider taking Benadryl at bedtime if I thought it would help.  I didn't end up taking anything though.  Again, this was during a FET cycle though, so the only meds I was taking were Estradiol and PIO.  I'm not sure what you could take during a fresh cycle, so I agree with @BusinessWife.  It's best to check in with your clinic.  I hope you're able to get some rest soon! <3

  • Thank you so much. I honestly think you're right. My nurse told me to take the ganirelx and menopur after 6:30pm. I think I'm going to bump it up for today at 4pm.
I do think you're right. It's probably a lot of anxiety of what all these drugs are going to do and also what is the outcome of all this.
Wish the time would go by faster Ahhhhhhh

  • It's been 3 years since my last fresh cycle, but I agree with @joneser1281 about anxiety being a sleep-thief. One thing that worked for me is meditation. I listened to a guided audio program every night before bed, and 9 times out of 10, I was passed out before it was over. The waiting is incredibly stressful. Hang in there!
  • @sarajasonivf Good plan!  I think probably a combination of taking the meds earlier and your body just getting used to taking them each day will help.  I know, time goes so slow!  Hang in there.
