Nausea remedies

I know I'll probably get flamed for not putting this on page 17 of the weekly symptoms thread, but I wanted to share what I'm doing to combat morning sickness and wanted to have a place where we could share remedies since it's certainly something a lot of us are currently dealing with or will be over the coming weeks.

I get all day sickness which means I'm actually alright in the mornings, but progressively get worse until I feel pretty lousy all day long.  That's how it was for DS, that's how it has been this past week since the nausea kicked in.  I haven't thrown up much, but a lot of dry heaving and generally feeling awful.  That is until today, when I actually feel a lot better and some of the things I'm doing seem to be working.  I feel really good now for the first time in days.

Here's what I've been doing along with perceived effectiveness:

#1 - Magnesium Oil.  I think this is the single thing that has made the biggest difference.  I started spraying it on myself two nights ago and felt better yesterday and feel even better today.  I would highly recommend giving it a shot.

#2 - Protein.  I've been eating a lot of fruit and carbs since that's what I've been craving but I've found that when I force myself to eat meat or eggs I feel a lot better afterward.  I ate a burger with no bun at lunch and feel great right now.

#3 Apple Cider Vinegar.  The jury is still out on this one.  Mixed with water and honey, I took it this morning and I feel better today than I have all week but I don't know if it's that or a cumulative effect of the magnesium oil.  It certainly helps with indigestion and since it's generally good for you I'll probably continue to take for the foreseeable future.

#4 B6 and Unisom.  I took this at night for two nights and while it certainly helped me sleep, it didn't do much for my nausea the next day.  I can't take Unisom during the day because it knocks me out so I've stopped using this remedy.

Anyone else have things they are doing that are helping with nausea?

Re: Nausea remedies

  • @CAdreamin13 I have been using a magnesium spray from Pink Stork that I got on Amazon and it definitely works, you spray it on your wrists or arms or ankles/ feet.

  • Sounds crazy but I think my nausea is partly mental.   For some reason I never get nauseous at work but as soon as I get home it kicks in. Whether I get home at 5 or 9:30, it starts instantly. Also when I'm dreading something or when I just t start thinking about my nausea it sets in.  I'm starting to think about using meditation and deep breathing to try to control it, but that's a totally new area to me.
  • No flame from me since this is a thread that is for everyone here. I just hate the ones that are a dear diary (especially three or four of the same posts on the main page. IE: 3 people all complaining of sore boobs in three different SS threads with no help to anyone else).

I have had crackers by my bed that I eat immediately upon waking. I also have been sucking on the preggie pops you can get at Target in the family planning section.

Oh I have magnesium oil spray to help my daughter with sleeping- had no idea it helped with nausea! If I ever get any I'll give it a go! Thanks
  • The classic remedies are helping a bit- sparkling water, ginger ale, dry foods. My most important lesson learned is to change up what I'm drinking/ eating- I'm very queasy all day and vomiting at least a couple times a day. So my body is now associating sparkling water and crackers with nausea and vomit. SO I switched to ginger ale and pretzels. Probably in a few days my body will start to resent that, so I'll be relying on toast and lemon tea. And then I'll repeat the cycle again. It seems to be working for me. Luckily I should only have another month or so of this nausea (fingers crossed!)
  • I ordered the pink stork magnesium spray today. I really hope it works for me! Thanks for sharing!

  • Ginger tea! Peppermint tea , gingerale and crackers are my go to.
  • Ginger chews, not the super sweet ones, seem to help me. I also drink protein shakes for breakfast and they really help too.
  • Grapes! For some reason they are the only thing that seem to settle my stomach, this time and last.
  • Jolly Ranchers!  I will keep them with me at all times once the nausea sets in.
  • My BFF swears by sea bands, the stretchy bracelets with a plastic nubbin (for lack of a better word) that presses on a spot on the wrist a relieves nausea.

I've found milk relieves my nausea for a bit, but need to get ginger ale. Will diet ginger ale do the trick too, or does it not contain the real ginger when it's diet? I'll have to look into pregnancy pops too.

I have found that I can't find any ginger ale's with real ginger  Let me know if you find any! The closest I got was at a health food store it had natural ginger flavor in it. I find ginger makes me gag, so really I am sticking to saltines. This weekend I had 3 protein shakes interspersed throughout the day and I think it really helped my nausea! I don't think I have been getting enough protein anyway, so maybe that is something you can try.

@awb1216 "I get all day sickness which means I'm actually alright in the mornings, but progressively get worse until I feel pretty lousy all day long.  " <<< that's me too. I feel okay in the morning besides queasiness, and it just gets worse and worse lol!

My brother/SIL recommended preggie pops and they're great. Short lived, but a wonderful short lived it is haha.

Watermelon helps with the heartburn and queasiness too.

Ginger chews did NOT sit well with me, but gingerale is okay. @Zoey1019 I believe Canada Dry has real ginger.
  • @clc515 Canada Dry! That's the name! I couldn't for the life of me remember the brand name of ginger ale. This headache is ending any ability I have to think.

@Zoey1019 I'm sitting at work with a thermos of milk, a bottle of Gatorade, and a glass of water, popping Tylenol. I'm sure my coworkers think I'm hungover, which is exactly how I feel, actually. But drinking the milk has helped keep the queasiness from getting full-blown. What kind of protein shakes do you drink?

I second seabands! I've tried them with past pregnancies and didn't think they worked, but I've kept them on consistently this time and when I take them off to shower and forget to put them back on, I notice it. May be mental but they seem to help! My OB swears by them!
  • I ended up calling my OB's nurse and getting meds.  Over the counter stuff worked briefly but I was sick all day.
  • Okay, so I really do think the magnesium spray is helping (or it's all mental!)! On day two using it and my nausea is not as bad! The diclegis alone was helping a little, and I think this spray in conjunction is helping just enough to get me through. Thank you again @awb1216 for sharing!

I'd echo @cgb_2017 I've started the diclegis with the stork spray today and have also noticed a big difference.
