in honor of these babes getting ready to celebrate their 1ST BIRTHDAYS...
1. Did/do you have any birthday traditions growing up or now?
2. What traditions do you plan to start with your LO?
I can't think of any birthday traditions I had growing up. It I always remember enjoying my birthday, lol.
With my niece, my sister started the tradition of taking a photo of her in her wedding dress each birthday. I absolutely loved that idea and purposely didn't box up my dress after cleaning in hopes of getting to steal that tradition! I am so excited to take her picture Sunday morning!
We also bought a wall ruler and each birthday we plan to measure her height! And take her picture of course. Haha!
Re: GTKY
We would get a room full of balloons and cake. Nothing really big.

After this year we'll probably stick to doing a trip for her birthday. Maybe do a measuring thing.
@TiffRox81 the wedding dress is such a beautiful tradition!
Since our kiddos were born July 1st (which I think is hilarious that they decided to wait a day to not have to share June with the rest of us), I'm sure more often than not they will be celebrating with family over the 4th. I don't have any traditions in mind, but now I want to think of some!
Growing up, my mom made sure that our birthday was truly OUR day. So whatever food we wanted the whole day, if there was an activity we wanted to do, whatever cake/pie/ice cream etc. It wasn't ever anything huge, but she just did a good job making us feel special that day.

Big sister already set the tone, so M's out of luck until she can tell me if she hates any of this. Hahahaha!! Chocolate Chip pancakes for birthday morning breakfast and we'll continue to have a big party for her for a few more years- then once she can chime in (started with big sisters 4th or 5th) we'll just do a big fun experience day.
That wedding dress idea gets all the heart eyes.

growing up I always a party sometimes big, sometimes just a couple friends, but always something. And there was always my requested dinnner for mom to make and ice cream cake.
Now, DH and plan a Disney trip for birthdays, the celebrated gets to pick all the meals and all the rides for the trip

I like the person getting to pick whatever they want to eat and do that day. So, we will be keeping that with me trying to figure out what his favorites are until he's old enough to tell me
Growing up our birthday always meant getting to pick what we wanted for supper. My mom worked 2nd shift so it was just my brother, Dad & I if our birthday was during the week. I remember it being a big deal that we went to Pizza Hut for my birthday and Dad gave me $1 for songs on the juke box. When I got a little older it became wanting my Dad to grill steak (even at 27 nothing beats my dad's grilling in my mind!)

Oh man! I want to be "that" mom when it comes to birthdays. Your favorite foods, cake, and whatever you'd like to do that day!

Growing up, the day was ours, what we wanted in every way possible. We always had dinner at any restaurant we wanted. And opened present when we got home As I got older, that has now turned into DH trying to let me do things I like during the day. Then deciding what foods do I want my mom and husband to make together for me, for dinner LOL Also my little sister makes me an awesome cake (she's 18 and becoming quite the baker!)

We definitely want to make sure the whole day is focused on him, and all about him and what he wants. Making sure he has his own day separate from the 4th. Family is super important to us, so having everyone together well definitely be a part of it. Otherwise I don't think we've thought much about it.
2. I have my mom's personality when it comes to special occasions, but DH is the opposite and doesn't like to make big deals of most occasions lol. But he is excited about Ps birthday so it might be different when it comes to our kids. I will definitely make the day special and usually I do that with food for other people's birthdays, but I guess it will just depend on what makes my kids feel special.
