How far along are you? 14w5d (singleton)

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? No, longest stretch ever. I miss the twin pregnancy and getting monitored every other week.  Next appointment is on the 29th

Have you felt the babies move yet?  Nope. Darn anterior placenta again.  It'll be probably another 6 or so weeks. :(

GTKY: Do twins run in your family? (Get used to being asked this question!)  I seriously am asked this anytime people see me with the twins!  But it is a curious question and I get it.  We actually do not have any twins in either of our immediate families and because they are identical they are not genetic! Just luck of the draw. That's usually what I tell people too.

What rants/raves/questions/advice?  I got a call from the company that does the progesterone shots and a one month supply is over $3000.  FML.  My insurance will pick up half of that and then it would be on me to do the other half. Uhm no.  I need to talk to my doctor, because he said it's usually cheaper if I go in and do it.

Edited to add: My twins turn 1 on Friday. I can't believe we made it through the whole year!! :)

    How far along are you?

    13w 4d, di/di twins

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Had one on Monday and it was great! We had an ultrasound and saw them moving all over the place and got the first pictures of them where they look like humans instead of blobs!

Have you felt the babies move yet?
    Not yet, I can't wait!

GTKY: Do twins run in your family? (Get used to being asked this question!)
Twins do not run in my family, these were completely random and unexpected!

Also, I didn't know this until I started reading my book on expecting multiples and it seems a lot of people don't know this, but the only family history that matters is on the side of the mother who's having/conceiving the babies, because what is actually passed on is the genetic predisposition to drop more than one egg at the time of ovulation. So if the father has a family history of twins it will not increase your chances of conceiving twins, but in the future it could impact any daughters that he has since they could inherit those genes from him.

    What rants/raves/questions/advice?
None that I can think of right now!
  • How far along are you? 13+2 singleton

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?  I had my NT scan yesterday and pistachio looked great. Actually he/she would not sit still so they had a really hard time getting the measurements they needed

Have you felt the babies move yet?  I have felt occasional things that I think are this baby and not gas. hopefully another 2-3 weeks and I should be feeling things more regularly. (with the twins I don't think I was for sure starting to feel flutters until 16-17 weeks)

GTKY: Do twins run in your family? (Get used to being asked this question!) my mom is an identical twin but I was upfront when people asked me this question in telling them that we did fertility treatments so we knew it was a possibility.  oh and on the topic of silly twin questions you'll get asked... People all the time ask if my B/G twins are identical...  face palm!
@leilagphillips yah its only di/di twins that have a genetic predisposition since the genetic thing is dropping more than one egg. Also if you are really young (teens) or older (mid to late 30's) your also more likely to release more than one egg and have twins.

What rants/raves/questions/advice?  When I was pregnant with the twins I watched a national geographic documentary on multiples in the womb. it was fascinating seeing how they interact and develop personality traits well before they are born. if you have a chance to watch it, it is worth it.

@tmk0325 hooray for the boy's 1st birthday!!!! it is such a milestone to get through your first year. they change so much and will change even more in the next year. its so amazing to see them turn into little people!

  • @wabash15 it's only fraternal twins who can be genetic, since some identical twins are di/di and they're still totally random! And I found the national geographic film on youtube and will definitely give it a watch! Thanks for the suggestion!
  • How far along are you?
16+4 - and still super excited for boy&girl twins

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
16 week anatomy scan yesterday went well. MFM Dr said the umbilical cords are attached to the edge of the placentas, but she wasn't worried about it and scheduled to see me again in 4 weeks. I also had my OB appt today, and brought DD with so she could see the ultrasound in action. I won't have the results back from the glucose screen for a couple days, and the drink was lemon - lime instead of orange, so it just tasted like really sweet, flat Sprite. Next appt there is in 2 weeks, just so we can get back to an alternating schedule with MFM.

Have you felt the babies move yet?
Yeppers! Getting familiar with where they are positioned from all the ultrasounds has given me a better idea of who's moving. I assume they don't move all over, A is lower and to my left, while B is higher and hangs out on my right.

GTKY: Do twins run in your family? (Get used to being asked this question!)
Yes, but I didn't know they did until after I found out. My mom has 3 cousins with twins, so not really close family. I was completely surprised!

    What rants/raves/questions/advice?
Not twin specific, but we're flying tomorrow. What pregnant perks have you experienced? I'm hoping to soak them all in!
Raves: my vacation totally just started. I'm off until July 5th!! Hallelujah!

@tmk0325 Happy birthday to them! My DH and I celebrate kid's birthdays as keeping them alive for another year!

@leilagphillips I try to keep my mouth shut when someone comments on my husband's ability to make twins.  :D

@wabash15 Don't you just love seeing them move all over?! My DD and DH couldn't believe they moved so much.
  • KathrynJ088  That's so exciting that you found out the genders! My husband thinks we're going to have a boy/girl combo as well, and that's what I'm hoping for now. Did your DD enjoy the experience of seeing the ultrasound? Is she excited about her brother and sister? We'll be bringing my stepdaughter who is 6 along to the anatomy scan so she can be there to find out the genders. She has high functioning autism, so it can be a little difficult to predict how she'll react in new situations. I think she's either going to love it because she loves to learn new things and ultrasounds are pretty cool to look at, or she's going to be really bored and not care at all. I'm going to bring coloring books/educational workbooks along to try and deal with that possible scenario.
  • @KathrynJ088 congrats on a boy and a girl! I don't know that I had any specific perks when flying pregnant... other than the dash to the next gait was harder. On the other hand if your flying with itty bittys people are usually very helpful
@leilagphillips I hope SDD really loves seeing the US

  • Hey guys!  Happy Thursday!

@tmk0325 Happy Birthday to the twins!  Dammmmnnnn that's a lot of money for those shots!!
@leilagphillips Gkad you had a good appointment. It's so fun seeing them moving around in there!
haha @wabash15. People always miss that identical means IDENTICAL. As in, they can't be boy/girl.  It's a hard concept to grasp, apparently.
@KathrynJ088 Im so excited for your boy/girls twins too!  Let us know what/if any pregnant perks you get.

How far along are you? 12+5 WOW!

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
We had our NT Scan yesterday and met with our MFM doctor for the first time. He basically layer out everything that could go wrong with TTTS, etc, so that was fun. I'm not going to worry about anything until I need to, though. I'm feeling very zen about the whole thing, which is awesome. Babies look perfect and have no signs of downs or trisomy 18 at this time. All great news!

Have you felt the babies move yet?
Not yet. I confirmed for sure that I have an anterior placenta, so it'll probably be a while.

GTKY: Do twins run in your family? (Get used to being asked this question!)
haha no. Although my grandma tried to say they did and my mom called her out about it, saying that that was in like the 1800's.  Lol. Ok grams.
Move been asked this question by literally everyone who knows we're having twins. It's already getting old!

    What rants/raves/questions/advice?
So we put an offer on a house in the burbs, where almost all of our friends and family live, and now we're just waiting to see if we got it. The sellers had to sleep on it. Ok. It's crazy because we currently live in a realllllly competitive real estate market, where we had 20 different competing offers for our house and others we tried to buy last time, but with this house it's just us and one other offer.  Good odds, I don't say. Anyway, were just waiting to see if we got it...and waiting and waiting.
Race is that my freaking pink eye that I got on Monday night is pretty much gone!  Yay!
  • @breezybee Good luck, I hope you get the house! Buying/selling houses is so stressful, I hope it's all as uneventful as possible!
  • @breezybee your pregnancy sounds similar to mine last year.  Try not to worry about the TTTS, it only happens in I believe 25% of identical twin pregnancies.  We had a perfectly healthy pregnancy besides the early labor!

Yeah I'm not freaking out about it at all. My doctor said it's actually only 10% of mo/di pregnancies.

Thanks @leilagphillips. It's weird - we love our current house, so we'd be totally happy staying. We just love this potential house for our kids when they get bigger.  If we don't get it, we'd just stay put and do it again in like a year :)

  • How far along are you?  14w4d

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? No appointments until next Friday. We did get our blood work back which told us that babies have very low chances of trisomies and that one of the babies is a BOY. I'm very much looking forward to the next appointment, I've been writing down questions.

Have you felt the babies move yet?  Not yet, I'm a FTM so I'm not sure what I'm suppose to be feeling or not feeling as the case may be. I can't wait to feel them, seeing the doctor once a month right now feels like forever.

GTKY: Do twins run in your family? (Get used to being asked this question!) Nope, these were science assisted. I'll be open with people about that and my experience.

What rants/raves/questions/advice?  My nipples are KILLING me. My boobs don't hurt but my nipples are a different story. We painted the babies room and ripped out the gross carpet! Progress.

@KathrynJ088 I'm so happy for you. I just want healthy babies but boy/girl might mean that we would be done. This would be okay since we are on the infertility journey.

@breezybee Time is going by so much faster than I though it would. I hope you get the house! My in-laws are looking currently closer to us, its been okay so far but my MIL is pickier than I thought and she has unrealistic expectations on what her dollar will buy her. SIGH!

leilagphillips I think its amazing that you are taking her with you. My nephew has been fascinated by the journey we've been on with the IVF and stuff, we've been pretty open with immediate family. I could see him being a doctor. Wish they lived closer and I'd let him come to see a sonogram. His eyes would be huge!

  • stella_700  My SDD actually lives in UT (we're in CT) but she just happens to be visiting us that week, so the timing couldn't be more perfect! When we skyped with her she didn't seem extremely interested when we told her we were having twins, but her mom's told us she's been pretty emphatic about wanting one brother and one sister, so I'm really hoping she'll enjoy the scan! And I feel the same way as you about the long waits between appointments, it's torture!
  • Update on the progesterone shots... So the insurance lady suggested I call the company directly and see what kind of copays they have available. I guess they go off your income, so I called and instead of paying $1600 a month for a one month supply through their copay plan I can pay just $75 a month.  Seriously, what a rip off that would of been had I not called.

  • @breezybee OMG congrats! That's so exciting! As someone who literally lives in a village, welcome to the quiet life
  • @tmk0325 I'm glad your progesterone ended up costing way less than you thought.

@leilagphillips Thanks for the fun facts!

@wabash15 I'm going to try to find that documentary, thanks!

@KathrynJ088 Congrats on the boy/girl twins! That's what we want too.

@breezybee Congrats on your new home!

@stella700 Congrats on the great test results!

    How far along are you?
    14 + 5 with di/di twins

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
I had an appointment today and it was so nice to see them moving around. I never get good pics though LOL. I've started video taping it so we can see the good angles there.

Have you felt the babies move yet?
I'm a FTM, but when I lay down at night I think that's what I feel fluttering around. I wasn't sure if it was gas or babies, but I think it's them.

GTKY: Do twins run in your family? (Get used to being asked this question!)
Nope, we did IVF and transferred two.

    What rants/raves/questions/advice?
I just wish I could sleep better at night. I'm planning on buying a pregnancy pillow soon, but I need to decide on one. One question I  have is does everyone have to take the 1 or 3 hour glucose test? My doctor did a regular fasting blood test and the glucose results were normal. He hasn't mentioned any other glucose tests.
  • Hey ladies, I just signed up for one of these Expecting Twins classes in my area. They're offered in a number of locations so thought I'd share for those of you also having twins for the first time. https://twinloveconcierge.com/twin-education-classes/
  • @tmk0325 thats great news about the shots
    @breezybee hooray for the house!
@clovelyone Yes I took the 1 hour but not till late in the 2nd trimester.   you typically only take the 3 hour if you fail the 1 hour. It sounds like your feeling the twins! its so exciting!

  • No flying perks on our way out here, but we did get a free upgrade for our rental car!

@leilagphillips DD loved seeing the US, but they don't know boy & girl yet. She at first wanted 2 brothers, but then changed her mind and wanted a little sister too. She's going to be a great big sister!
  • @wabash15 Thanks! Yes I really think I do feel them and my tummy is really starting to grow.
