C-Section numbness

I've had 2 c sections but both were done in Botswana-so I've never had a baby in the US. I have numbness on my abdomen above my incision line but I was told there that it's normal. I just wondered what your experience has been with c sections here. Did you you permanent numbness also?

Re: C-Section numbness

  • I have had one c-section and am numb in some spots around my incision site. It is normal as they are cutting your nerves. Sometimes, those nerves can grow back (and some of mine did as I have more feeling now than a few years ago) but sometimes they don't.

  • Yep!  I'm kinda wondering if the numbness means it might hurt less the second time around.  Although I'm probably not that lucky

  • Numbness finally went away, but it's still dull feeling if that makes sense
  • No numbness just a very fair scar. I guess the OB did a great job. I'm nervous about the second time around.
  • I really try to avoid touching mine as much as possible. It still seems sensitive to me. Mine has been itchy lately. I don't know if it's from the heat or just rubbing against my pants. Anyone else?
  • Some numbness, but mostly feeling is similar to the c-section itself, feelings are distant and I can't really pin point where in the scar area the sensation is. This 16 months after 1 c-section

  • I've had 2 c-sections so far, about 3 years apart. Just after my first I had a two inch swath of numbness above my incision for the entire length of the incision.  By the time we got to c-section #2 that had narrowed to about an inch. After the second c-section the numbness about 1.5 inches above my incision, and now almost 1.5 years later it is slightly less than that. I imagine I will have the same pattern with this little one and in about 10 years I'll either have all the feeling back or my nerves will just say screw it and not heal completely. It's an odd feeling.

  • Thanks ladies. My numbness area is a lot. The full length of my scar and 4 inches above. But I lost over 100lbs before babies so I have a lot of excess skin there. Maybe that's why. I am planning a tummy tuck after LO passes the 1yr mark so I'm hopeful it will all be gone!

  • I have about an inch above and below my incision scar that are totally without feeling and my csection was done 5 years ago.
