TTC After a Loss

Clomid and PCOS ladies... looking for support

*** TW loss mentioned ***
*** TMI warning **"

Hi everyone,

I'm feeling very bitter and frustrated and angry with my body. My TTC journey is changing once again and I just feel like sharing. Sorry in advance that it's so long...

So here goes nothing - I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 22. I've never had a "regular" period but I always had one. I think the longest I went without a period was about two months and that was when I was still in high school.

In November 2016 dh and I decided to start TTC. I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to conceive but lucky me - I did! Got my bfp at the beginning of January 2017.

Unfortunately, I had a MMC in February at 9 weeks and had a d&c.

AF came back 6 weeks later and I was both sad and relieved at the same time because I was terrified that I want going to ovulate again - maybe that was my chance and I lost it.

We were back TTC, this time with more pain, fear and anxiousness. A few days before I was expecting AF (about a month later) I was feeling nauseous and tired and I thought, maybe I got lucky twice. But I wasn't. AF came again.

That was on May 7. On May 29, CD23, I noticed brown discharge. It continued for 6 days. I went to my Dr what thought it might be implantation bleeding. But I knew it wasn't. Based on my past experience and knowing my body pretty well, I knew it was just too early to be that. He did a blood test which obviously came or negative and he told me that it was probably some sort of scratch or else "leftover" blood from my previous AF.

I am now on CD43 and still no sign of AF. I have no pregnancy symptoms and I've had 2 bfn's, one just this morning to rule it out. Tomorrow will be four months since my d&c and I've only had two AF's.

My doctor now thinks that I have stopped ovulating and that the brown discharge that I saw might have been a sign of an anovulatory cycle. He's referring me to a fertility specialist that he says will likely start me on clomid and possibly give me progesterone to bring on AF.

I know that some of you have used/are using clomid. I was wondering if any of you have had success with this treatment? Frustration? Side effects? Encouragement? Disappointment? The treatment option is still new to me and I'm having a really hard time digesting the news that I am likely not ovulating anymore.

Thank you for reading this far and good luck to everyone on their own TTC journies.

I also have PCOS, but only found out last year since I was on birth control since I was 15 for migraines and other hormonal issues (looking back now that was probably my first sign I had PCOS).

I conceived on my own the first time (ended in MC at 10 Weeks) and we started to TTC right after that. By the time my year wait was up to get referred to a specialist, I had become aware of my inability to ovulate, or just not ovulate well. (I would ovulate and get my period 8 days later.)

Once I saw the specialist and he diagnosed me with PCOS I was put on Letrozole/Ferma (like clomid, but less side effects from what I've been told) and that lengthened my luetal phase to 10-11 days. I'm not sure why he has never put me on progesterone because it is low, but I didn't question him. I have never had any side effects with Letrozole.

After two cycles with just Letrozole, he also added follicle tracking and an HCG trigger shot to the mix. I did get some nausea the day of the shot, but it was minimal. Two cycles of that and I became pregnant again, but MC a few days ago at 10+2 (I have a feeling it happened because of low progesterone, but don't know for sure).

I wouldn't worry too much about the clomid and progesterone, from what I hear the side effects, if any, are manageable. And if you are having problems ovulating, hopefully it will work for you like it did for me.

    Good luck!

  • @baileym9126 I'm so sorry for your losses! Although, it is encouraging that you managed to get pregnant. I hope that next time around things will go better for you and that the clomid will work for me too.

  • @SCK2411 I'm so sorry for your loss. I am not well versed in treating PCOS or with clomid. I do lurk around including on the IF board and threads and I have seen some of the ladies there warn about one thing with clomid - you can only use it for so many cycles in your life. So probably a good question to ask when you meet with the RE is if they recommend any other testing for you or your partner to rule out possible other issues before you start clomid. PCOS is a likely issue for you. It it doesn't mean there aren't other things going on you'd want to catch before using up clomid cycles. Good luck with it, I hope it helps you!
