Cuuuute! My planned outfit is a light green romper (no sleeves) with tiny pink flamingos on it.
Question- I see the first two posts involve pants and hats. I was thinking, August baby = hot (aside from AC) so the romper would suffice. Am I wrong? I was thinking of putting in a light muslin blanket too just in case.
@DeansGirl14 when they are that little I usually do 1 layer more then I would wear. I would likely do a t-shirt, pants, socks and covered with a light blanket
Thanks for starting, @bumpybump! These pictures are so cute and I love the inspiration!
@bwing10 that shirt is so appropriate - I love those sets!
@DeansGirl14 I think you prob need the hat for in AC, maybe? A gauze blanket is a good idea. I am agonizing over short sleeves or long sleeves. Also, I feel like a lot of the cute sets might need onesies underneath them to protect the umbilical cord, but two layers might be too hot? I am definitely over thinking this!
@DeansGirl14 DS was born in June. We live in Georgia and it's hot as balls here. Same will go for this lo, I had a car seat canopy and a light blanket. He's been a sweaty baby since day 1 and I didn't want him to overheat. I think it depends on where you live. I think I've posted this before, but the best way to get a feel for their temp is to feel their core.
@DeansGirl14 the birth center had hat in the list of things to bring for LO so that's why I picked an outfit with one. Honestly I'm not sure if we will need it.
These are all soooo cute! We have an option or 2 we are debating, but will wait until the shower to see if anything tops what we like. We area also planning a hat, and will have a carseat cover. You never know the weather....
TW: 1 infant loss 8/17: Our daughter was born 8/18: Our daughter kicked open heart surgery ass 2/19: We lost our son to Prader-Willi/Paradoxical Vocal Cord/ Noonans at 6wks old 4/26/2020: EDD for baby #3!!!
So per my googling on the subject on hats I found that they are not necessary in the hospital and that when babies are being held skin to skin the mother's body actually regulates the baby's temperature. I also read that it's better for breastfeeding because that delicious new baby smell comes from the top of baby's head and stimulates our bodies to make milk. As far as in the car, I honestly wasn't too worried because my mom went down and pulled the car right up to the door and we got straight in under a covered area. She also took out flowers and such so she got the car temperature regulated. I think it's policy at most hospitals for the car to be pulled around, therefore baby's exposure to the elements are minimal.
I bought the first one in NB and the second in 0-3 month. Based on the length of my other kids, I'm sure the NB will fit just fine. Knowing my mom, she'll also buy some boy and girl specific clothing and just return the ones that don't work once the baby is born, but right now, these neutral outfits are the only new things I've bought. My other kids also came home in neutral clothes and I think both had ducks on them.
This was DS's going home outfit. We are team green and haven't picked outfits yet for this LO. We are waiting until our 36 week ultrasound when they give us a better idea of size. (With DS, we bought newborn, but had to return for 3 month when we found out how big he was going to be).
we plan on using this unless someone gifts us something better/cuter. I like that it can be converter from footed jammies into a sleeper gown. The sleeves fold down into mittens. It's from the boys section at target but girls can wear dinosaurs too! I may buy a green headband to match in case we have a girl.
The first day May 2007 The yes day April 2012 The best day Nov 2013
it was the beginning of september in south carolina so it was still super hot. when we left the birthing center she had on this zebra onesie zebra socks and a hat with a blanket wrapped around her but that hat and blanket came off halfway home i had a little dress picked out for DD but she just ended up in a onesie so much easier to deal with
Couldn't find a great going home picture of my daughters on my phone but I had it in her memory box so I took a picture. I decided on this little guys outfit because I thought it looked similar to the style of his sister's. If it's too hot I'll leave the hat and socks off.
I was struggling with what to pack for baby due to crazy nys weather. It's been ranging 60s-90s may and June, I'm sure late July and August might be more stable though. Either way, I packed: a dress, ss onesie and pants, ls cotton footie PJs. I will decide that day what to dress her in.
I'm part of the not decided yet club. With DD her outfit was HUGE because we kept being told she was 10 lbs so I planned for a big baby and she was barely 7.
I will bring several outfits this time and choose at the hospital.
Someone was asking about temp. Babies don't regulate their body temp for a while after birth so you'll want something slightly warmer than what you would wear even in summer. Basically what a previous poster said above.
DS came home in a blue and white striped onesie. We live in VA and it'll be at least 90+ degrees when we come home. I'm 90% decided on this outfit but might change my mind in the next 8 weeks.
This is what we brought DD home in. (Never realized how jaundiced she was until I look back.) Haven't really decided on DS yet just because it's freaking hot right now and I want to wait to see if they can give me a better guess of his size. Most likely will be a onesie will guitars all over.
It's hard to see in her picture, but DS came homemade in navy pants, a onesie that said "first mate" and a matching hoodie (all Carter's) We also used this cottton blanket. This was a 3 month because he was so huge. He was born in May, which is warm, but with everything having air, we opted to have a layers. I'll post our LO outfit when it arrives!
At our wedding, DH and I had Player 1 and Player 2 champagne flutes that I hand painted because we met on an online game - we found these adorable onesies on Etsy that perfectly continued our theme! I want to make our girls some cute little headbands to wear too... so long as my sewing energy keeps up
here's my 36 weeker at 6 lbs 15 oz and 20.5 in swimming in his newborn sized sleeper. I wanted to share this pic for size reference. This baby has been measuring small all along (4lbs 5 oz at 32 weeks, 33% according to a calculator I used) so I expect her to be petite even as a full term baby. I only packed newborn sizes.
I can't wait to see all the birth announcements with our LO's wearing these adorable outfits!! I love everyone's. Here's our newborn and 0-3 mo size outfits.
This was DD1 in May '12. She was 7lb5oz and 19.5 inches and fit into newborn for about 8 weeks. (Sorry, no idea how to make these pictures smaller.)
DD2 was 6lb2oz and only 18 inches (Jan '15) so she was swimming in newborn sizes and DH ran out for some preemie clothes. We were so excited to get home we did't actually get a carseat shot, but here we were waiting to be released (her poor, traumatized face).
I love Carter's for little girls. I hope to post some good finds for this little guy soon! All of these baby pics are getting getting me so excited.
Re: Coming Home Outfits
I purchased this outfit the other day off Etsy, it took us 6 years to get pregnant so we thought it was fitting!

I thought this was too cute. Hopefully it makes sense (zero days...months...years old...get it?)
I always bring my babies home in hats but just because I think it's be cute.
