Notifying Coworkers

Hello,

My situation at work for some time is that when staff use the Library for an event or guest speaker furniture (tables etc) get moved. They RARELY put things back. I find it so inconsiderate and am beyond frustrated. Usually I suck it up and move things back but my RE told me no moving furniture. This morning things are a disaster once again and I am sending out an email. I am thinking I might mention the reason I cannot move things back. I'd like opinions on how this sounds. Do I leave the news that I am pregnant or take it out and just say I have been told not to move furniture?

"Also a friendly reminder that if you move furniture or anything else in the Learning Commons please, please put it back. I am on Doctor's orders not to move furniture as I am pregnant, it would be very much appreciated!"

  • Leave the pregnant part. People will ask questions anyway as to why you are on doctors orders not to move furniture. You may as well get it out in the open. Sounds like a good friendly reminder!

  • Agree with @Cricket99. If you're ready to tell people you may as well leave it in because otherwise you'll get questions anyway or people will start gossiping among themselves about potential reasons.
  • Agreed with the advice from the other two.  If this continues then instead of sending an email to the entire staff I'd email the people responsible directly and ask nicely (the first time) that they come fix the mess.  If it continues then it's probably something that needs to be addressed via the chain of command.

  • I had to have a Keurig machine moved away from my cubicle because the smell of coffee brewing now apparently makes me suddenly and violently sick. So I did tell them why - people were very understanding. I hadn't planned to say anything so early, but I had to explain.
  • @mcrosie Thats what I am hoping for, that if I give the specific reason maybe then they will care lol. I have been requesting that if they move it put it back all year to no avail.

  • Thanks everyone, I'll send what I wrote. I think I'd like to let everyone know anyways as its the end of the school year and will likely come back in the fall with a bump, this way its also no surprise. I just wanted to be sure my message wasn't overboard.

  • @Cauleyflower here's hoping everyone is receptive!  I can relate to your frustrations.  My dearest aunt is a high school librarian and she deals with this sort of nonsense all the time.
