@LHC2011we seem to be on the same wavelength! My OB's office has me strung out about Zika bc of all of the CDC's ongoing (redundant) precautionary checks. I was in Tampa (for a work conference as well) at 5 weeks pregnant. In spite of "south Florida" being a risk area, I asked specifically about Tampa and they said it was safe. Seems arbitrary, but for what it's worth...

Yea, she isn't concerned and said to go! I am just a worrier!! (We have a lot in common
Tampa probably has about the same risk as my home town (Atlanta), so I wouldn't refuse to go, but I would wear DEET when I was outside.
That is, no known mosquito-borne transmission, but there are mosquitoes, and Zika will pop up in a few new places this summer.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science
7 IUIs, 7 BFNs. 2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs. Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire. Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus! fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP! Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)
Take precautions, but you'll be fine. As someone who is pretty much permanently between Tampa and Clearwater, I can assure you there's not too much craziness happening here yet. Rainy season has started so that will be a factor in coming months. Some places have sprayed year round and all the counties have stepped up their mosquito game. I heard on the radio that in Pinellas County (across the bay from Tampa) they've been spraying with the goal of killing mosquitos in the larval stage. Hillsborough (where Tampa is) has been doing similar things and everywhere is giving mosquito eating fish to homeowners to put in their ponds. Florida is so dependant on tourism that they are taking this super serious. We can't afford for people to stop coming here, a good chunk of the population would lose their jobs. So no one wants to be caught unaware like Miami was last year. It's been hot and humid though, so if you do wear long sleeves, try to go for something breathable. And you'll probably be inside the whole time anyway, no one wants to be outside in the heat.
I live in Florida, and I say go - you can wear long sleeves, but just be wary that it is hot and rainy. Be sure to drink a bunch of water. Both sets of parents (mine and ILs - Tampa and Sarasota) have told me the counties have been spraying non-stop for mosquitoes.
I live 30 minutes away from Tampa in a suburb called Palm Harbor. I haven't heard any concerns at all from people in my area and it looks like on the CDC map, the risk was in Miami which is 5+ hours away.

Tampa's never even been on the map as a Zika concern and it's pretty far away from the two spots where there *was* (no longer is) a Zika concern.
