Any Homeschool moms out there?

edited June 2017 in January 2018 Moms
Didn't figured there'd be any/many. I'm just trying to decide how to work out our school year. I'm considering starting in July so we can take a huge break after baby. It really doesn't sound too bad to start so early since we finished up mid-May.

Edited for grammar...

  • I'm not, but I have a friend who is, and she's 20 weeks along know with her third. They actually just started their schoool year last week (finished at the end of April) because she wanted to build in vacation time once her son is born.

  • Yes.   We are starting slowly in July (our libraries have amazing summer activities and my MIL takes the kids for a grandma day every Tuesday so our summer is already jam packed).   This will allow for us to take 2 weeks off for vacation in October and take time off/ lighten our load on January.  When baby comes we plan to just do Bible and read alouds with oral narration for some time.  I always read to the kids while nursing so we will just drop everything else fir a few weeks.
  • @hwoodmama We have a surprisingly slow summer (so unusual for us) so it's a good year to start so early. I think the kids will be excited to start I think.
What curriculum do you use? I used My Father's World last year and trying to decide if I want to continue with it or choose something the kids can do a little more on their own since I'll have times of not feeling the best AND a new baby part way through.
  • @GraceUponGrace09 We are trying MFW this year  :).   We used sonlight last year and I loved that it was living books and Bible based, but it wasnt hands on enough for us.  I was constantly trying to come up woth supplemental crafts and using the library to get more material to bulk up a topic.   Most of the complaints Ive seen on MFW are that there are so many crafts and checking out books from the library, but thats right up my alley.
  • @hwoodmama Awesome! I've been drawn to SL but keep going back to MFW when I look at them. And yes, we loved using the library. Literally hundreds of books made their way through our home.
We did MFW K and 1st last year and I'm thinking I'll go ahead and do 2nd grade this year. I adored K especially!
What grade(s) will you be doing? How fun to have another MFW user on here! We'll have to keep tabs on each other throughout the school year!
