UO - 6/8

Let's hear those unpopular opinions!

Re: UO - 6/8

  • Going to lunch with coworkers is a burden. I need some alone time, thank you very much! (And I love my coworkers, so this is saying something).

  • I greatly dislike birthday cake ice cream. Where did all of the bubblegum go? Can that flavor make a comeback?
  • @jakobaby I've never had birthday cake ice cream. I'm not very into "novelty" flavors lol. I stick with chocolate peanut butter. Yum!

  • @jakobaby Is this the same as cake batter ice cream? That stuff makes me gag even when I'm not PG! I don't like bubble gum ice cream either, though.
  • @missblaze I usually stick to mint choc chip or something classic, then cherry garcia if I'm at the grocery store. I'm not too big on 'trashed up' flavors. No more than a couple of add-ins. Something about the bubblegum flavor, not the gumballs, is nostalgic for me I guess. This pregnant lady is nostalgic for everything these days haha.

@GraceUponGrace09 Yes birthday cake, cake batter. All the same overpowering vanilla grossness that is now everywhere.
  • @missblaze chocolate peanut butter is my jam. I eat that stuff by the pint while pregnant.

I don't like cake. Give me all the cheesecake or pie.
  • Oh guys I just to love Cake Batter ice cream. Haven't had it in years though.

My UO is I dislike being pregnant. Don't get me wrong I think the science is very interesting and I love the end result. But I am so not one of those glowy unicorn ladies that love every second of the process. I also enjoy birth because it's the end.
  • @burnsmommy27. Right there with you.  My body loves being pregnant, me not so much.  I was afraid of labor the first two times but now that my labor was cut in half and it will be January vs April I am terrified.

My UO is I dislike LLR.  My cousin sells it and I've been to a couple parties, but I haven't had good luck, even with their curvy sizes or siz8ng up.  I want to like it so bad, but some of the patterns look like grandma curtains.

@Ready4theParty I love LLR! That being said, some of the patterns are truly hideous.

  • @missblaze. I thought it was because I was trying to got my chubby self into the o/s but TC aren't any better.  I really love Amelia but even a 2x won't fit the boobs.  I am done!  Thanks for making me more self conscious LLR!

  • @burnsmommy27 Until about three weeks ago, I was under the mistaken impression that I loved being pregnant  :# Lol... I actually did with DD and hope I get there soon with this LO--but no shame in not loving it!

  • @Ready4theParty Let me tell you, Carly is where it's at for pregnancy! The leggings are really suffocating to me right now and the Amelia's fit me weird. But bring on the Carly and Irma!

  • I also love LLR but I agree that some of the patterns are ugly.
  • @Ready4theParty I agree, can't stand it! Also can't stand getting fbook invites for the parties, grrr
  • I hate Jimmy John's. And cold meat sandwiches in general.
  • @Ready4theParty YES!!!! I think they are a good excuse for moms to not get back into shape. Sorry to you lady that love LLR.
  • My mom bought me my first LLR leggings last week. They're comfy...but I don't think LLR is my jam either. I don't know...I feel like a lot of their clothes are kind of "frumpy." I like the look of their fitted dresses, but everything else just looks a little too slouchy for me.
@schaze, I usually agree with you on things, but not the cheesecake vs. cake thing! I HATE cheesecake with everything inside of me. It tastes rotten. Seriously. I feel like I'm putting something that has gone bad into my mouth.
@Lizbeth86, I agree with the princess thing! I just feel like it adds to a culture of entitlement to call a girl a princess. No. You're not a princess. Nothing is going to get handed to you. You will work for all that you have. And you will be a better person because of it!

My unpopular opinion: I don't like Gilmore Girls. Or Grey's Anatomy.
  • @GraceUponGrace09 you're from WA right? I lived in Seattle for about 5 years when I was a kid and because of that I LOVE the rain. It's supposed to rain here tonight and I'm really excited!

@cyanope we will just have to agree to disagree on this one  ;) However I can say that I 100% agree with you on the Gilmore Girls thing, and somewhat on the Grey's thing. It used to be my favorite show but it needed to stop like 5 seasons ago.

Re: the princess thing, I am a Disney fan so we'll have all those awesome Disney princess movies (Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc.) but I absolutely hate when my in-laws and parents call DD "princess". I don't make a fuss about it now because she doesn't understand, but when she's a little older I'm going to have to talk to them because I don't want her feeling like she's entitled or deserves to be spoiled. I hate confrontation though so it's going to take me awhile to get up the guts.
  • @schaze Yes, I'm in WA. However we live more in Central/Eastern WA (hello, orchards and vineyards) so we don't get much rain over here. I might feel differently about the rain if we lived on the Westside.

@Lizbeth86 @cyanope I'm with you on the anti-princess thing. My friend is huge into it. Calling her a princess, having a princess party and we were all invited to the royal kingdom, etc. Ugh, not my type!
  • Eh to the princess thing.  DD is really into all things princess but that was not by my doing.  She gravitated to frozen early and has picked up the other princesses along the way.  My cousin tries to stop her child from all things pink and princess.  It didn't work and backfired.  Personally, I think if handled correctly it will just be a phase.  That said, my cousin (different) was treated like a princess/doll way past an appropriate age.  At 12 she was a pain, and it took her parents divorce to turn her around although she's still pretty entitled on somethings still

  • I can't stand glitter. It's gross. It gets EVERYWHERE. And it's so hard to clean up. I get anxiety opening Christmas cards because I know 90% of them will have glitter on them.
  • @cyanope I dont really like cheesecake either, but I love sweets so much I will still try/eat a bit when that is what is offered. Always completely disappointed. I just want a nice chocolate chip cookie.

  • @sbishop426 One of my aunts does not open any Christmas cards people send her bc she doesn't want to get glitter in her house.

  • @bainidhedub Hilarious, that's extreme! I mean, you never knew when someone is going to a send you a Christmas gift check!
  • I love Disney too. And I don't plan on keeping my
kids from Disney princesses. I just hate when prarents call their daughter a princess and tell them that they are one.
@EmilyLove25, he's very nice to look at...I just don't want to watch his show!
  • @cyanope @EmilyLove25 more Dr Avery for me too (and previously McDreamy/McDreamy haha). Even though I don't love the new seasons dilly I feel like I have to stick with Greys now.

Also give me all the sweets-birthday cake ice cream, cheesecake and regular cake, major sweet tooth over here.

My UO is that I don't like Star wars. DH has tried many times to get me to watch and I always end up falling asleep
  • @sjb2215 agreed on Star Wars! My husband has tried to get me to watch Lord of the Rings too. Yawn. I can't sit still for a 3-4 hour movie. Harry Potter on the other hand- I can watch those and my mind doesn't drift off.

Another UO is Starbucks coffee. I think most of it tastes burnt and is way overpriced. I'd rather make me own. I have a coworker who complains about always being broke yet I see her toting a Venti something fancy $4 drink every day plus some kind of baked good item
  • @scatteringashes if that's an UO I'm 100% in that boat with you.  Women have enough battles to fight, tearing each other down based on appearances is beneath ALL of us.

  • Just saying that stretchy pants that give and give and give let you really let go of your body. If I wore pants that I could gain a bunch of weight in and not tell the difference in i probably would. I believe as a parent you have a responsibility to be healthy for your children.

And @scatteringashes I didn't mean shape as in pear, oval, ect. I meant shape as in "being healthly". I'm well aware that being in shape looks different for everyone. I dubbed myself "fit fat girl" for years before I learned about nutrition and eating balanced.
  • @schaze I'm sorry that is not how I intended it to come across. And I'm sorry that you are struggling with your postpartum new body. God knows I miss my old body too. I'm glad that you found something that makes you feel good in. And I guess I'll leave it at that cause I'm not trying to mommy shame anyone here. It's a UO for a reason.
  • @burnsmommy27 I know is what you meant. And it's not a good phrase. Also, gaining weight is not synonymous with poor health. Weight and health are not necessarily related.

I appreciate that maybe you mean well, but saying that it's an UO doesn't mean that it's not harmful. The notion of what health looks like on women is usually the result of internalizing the messages of a society that insists upon a narrow definition of what women should be and how they should look.
  • No I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. I did not set out writing that thinking hmm how many women's feelings can I hurt? And my apology was senere.

It doesn't change how I feel about it, sorry it came across so terribly. I do agree with you that society is to blame. We have food scientist that's sole job is to make food more addictive. Yes there is something wrong with that.

At some point weight does equal health. If that wasn't the case type 2 diabetes wouldn't exist. At some threshold weight does start to have an effect on how your body functions.

I'm putting this convo to bed for myself literally. Again I'm sorry for hurting anyone's feelings. Not.my true intention

  • @burnsmommy27 I'm sorry, but I need to say my piece here. I've been overweight most of my life. I've been a runner, I've worked out daily for months and dieted for months and years on end. I've been to doctors and dietitians and been on nutrisystem and Atkins and weight watchers and beach body. And I'm still fat. Not because I give up, not because I'm lazy, not because I eat everything in sight. Because I'm genetically predisposed to carry more weight than society deems "acceptable". I cook healthy foods in my house and most people are astounded by the variety of foods my 4 yr old will eat. And I'll be DAMNED if I let anyone tell me I'm setting a bad example for my children. Size does NOT equal health. I know people who are 100 lbs soaking wet but only eat processed crap and smoke like chimneys. And I run circles around them. Being thin does not always mean being healthy, and being fat does not always equal being unhealthy and lazy. My dr runs tests on me every year and every year everything comes back perfectly. And I'm sick and tired of society telling me I'm a fat, lazy, glutinous, disgusting slob just because I carry more weight than they think I should.

  • @mamakassie2 I'm sorry you have gone through all of that. I'm also sorry that society makes you feel badly for not fitting into what is deemed the norm now adays. That all sucks.

Ladies maybe I shouldn't have made such a blanket statement. But I know for my own personal self (and I can't be the only one) I don't jump on the scale all the time. I use my clothes as a gage for how I'm doing. Maybe if I ate out a few times and my pants got a bit tight I would think crap I need to reign it in. But if I wore stretchy pants everyday I can totally see myself gaining weight. Many of you have attested to struggling with weight, I think we all do. So for me stretchy pants and clothes = weight gain.

You should also know that I work in the cardiac and diabetes units in my hospital. So maybe I'm a bit jaded but I see it ALL the time. Young people, men and women alike, not giving a damn about thier personal health.
