  • Happy Tuesday!  We made it another week :)

How far along are you (how many babies)?
    10+3, mo/di twins

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
No, but I've got one this Thursday. I'm excited to see the little beans and make sure they're ok.

How are you feeling this week?
Better every week!  Although, I've been having some pain in my right side that I suspect is a nice combo of RLP and gas. Super fun. It doesn't feel like anything to be alarmed about. And I for sure am starting to get a baby bump. My pants are so uncomfortable and I look like I e had a million burritos lol. Which is true.

What traditions are you looking forward to starting with your twins?
I cant think of anything aside from holiday things. I can't wait to get them costumes for Halloween and go trick or treating. We're not big Halloween people, but I'm really into this idea. And Christmas stuff, of course. Decorating and leaving cookies out and watching movies together when they're older.  My husband and I have a 5 year plan to buy a lake house, so that'll be fun to do some lake living with them.  So many things!

No questions or advice to add today :)

  •   @breezybee I think Halloween will be fun too. Especially while they aren't old enough to make their own decisions  :D. I'm also having a lot of pain which I'm assuming is for stretching, gas and constipation. I have stage 4 endometriosis do I'm sure it's also breaking apart the adhesions because everything is stuck together down there (uterus, bladder, ovaries, bowels). I've had surgeries to separate them, but it grows back. The pain has been worst for the past few days.

@tmk0325 June 28th does seem far! I should be able to squeeze in an NT scan before my next appointment.

How far along are you (how many babies)?
    12+3 with di/di twins

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Last Friday, we heard the heartbeats during the
ultrasound! Plus, I've now stopped the Lovenox shots and progesterone suppositories!

How are you feeling this week?
Nausea, vomiting, gas, constipation, fatigue and the stretching pains.

What traditions are you looking forward to starting with your twins?
I'm not sure, but I'd love to have cute pics of them together. I also can't wait to travel with them, but I'm sure that will be more difficult with two.

    What questions/advice do you have?
Anyone have tips for traveling with two?
  • @clovelyone, my doctor actually suggested I start doing progesterone shots at 16 weeks, because I had pre-term labor with the twins at 31 weeks. They have no idea if it's from carrying two or if it was just my body.  Did they say how come you don't need to continue them?  Are they not concerned with pre-term labor at all?

Also to answer your question about travel. We hardly go anywhere with them besides grandmas and daycare and the occasional restaurant, church, doctor appointments.  Until they can walk and aren't taking two naps a day, it's not worth it to me to mess up their schedules!  I definitely give mad props to people that travel with infants, I just don't think its worth the hassle for something they won't remember.

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? nothing last week, but one at the end of this week

How are you feeling this week?   the nausea/dry heaving/food aversions and fatigue have been rough but I started B6 and that seems to be helping with the nausea/dry heaving.  Its funny every pregnancy is different. So far this one has been harder than the twins.

What traditions are you looking forward to starting with your twins?  we do dinner every night at the table. (no TV, no phones) its nice to have that family time. One thing I didn't start till after the twins were born and wish I had during pregnancy is a journal. I don't write in it every day but if they do something funny, or its holiday or a milestone. Its nice looking back and having notes written to them. I have also encouraged visitors (mostly family) to write notes to them too. I hope that they will like it when they are older and can get a snapshot of their lives.

What questions/advice do you have?  @clovelyone we have done some traveling with 2, though not a ton. (mostly because its hard for me to arrange time off at my job, I'm on call 24/7/365 and If I want to leave town I have to have someone cover for me which can be hard to find) If your flying baby wearing is super helpful getting through the air port and on the plane. Oh as an FYI you can't sit in the same part of a row with your SO if your traveling with the twins in your lap because there are not enough extra facemasks... so that that kinda sucks. oh nursing or bottles during take off and landing help with the ears and the change of pressure. Keeping on your schedule as best as possible is important. Most hotels have pack-n-plays with sheets so you don't have to bring those. If your driving any distance I try to time it with naps or sleeping. So getting on the road at bed time so that they sleep and hopefully wake minimally when you get there. Or getting up super duper early and driving (which as long as your kiddos don't hate the car seat) should put them back to sleep so that you arrive at your destination when they might usually wake up for the day. ( your tired but its way better when babies are happy). Oh and if you have to travel during waking times a co-pilot who can ply your littles with snacks or get toys that fall so you don't have to stop every 5 minutes. Not worrying so much about sugar or items you might not normally give them, I figure if we are traveling and they are being good special treats are worth it. We also are phasing out pacifiers but let them have them for long car or plane trips....

  • @tmk0325 My doctor hadn't mentioned anything about progesterone to delay preterm labor. I was taking the suppositories because I had IVF and it's pretty standard because they think a lot of miscarriages are caused by low progesterone levels. After about 10-12 weeks of pregnancy, the placenta has formed which will produce the necessary amount of progesterone. Did your doctor have you take progesterone with the twins as well or was it only the second time around because you had preterm labor before? This is my first so I don't think they'll give it to me. I will ask about it though.

Regarding travel, I was all for it while it's free for kids under 2 to fly. Not really for their benefit, more so because we like to travel and figured while they're young, we could do touristy stuff while they sleep or put them in a carrier, etc. I figured it may be a little inconvenient with one, but I'm worried it won't be worth it with two until they are older.
  • @wabash15 Thanks for the tips! I keep starting drafts and end up stopping in the middle, then come back and finish, but I've missed other replies LOL.
  • How far along are you (how many babies)?
    14+3, di/di twins

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Last week check up with my OB. Went great, and I got that headache med prescribed which has significantly improved my day to day. Next appt is the 20th and my MFM is pretty sure we'll be able to determine genders!

How are you feeling this week?
Pretty fantastic, I think I'm getting that second trimester "glow" despite my teenager acne.

What traditions are you looking forward to starting with your twins?
No new traditions. I don't think it would be fair to the older kids to start doing "special" things just for/because the twins.

    What questions/advice do you have?
I'm pretty sure I'm starting to feel them move,  Baby B more so than Baby A. I know STM's usually can feel it earlier, could I be feeling them even earlier since there's two?
Also, what did current twin mom's do for beds? One crib or two? Mini cribs or full size? It's likely one of the more expensive purchases, so I'd like to budget accordingly.
  • Im 11 weeks. Di/di twins.
Been nauseous, constipated, dealing with heartburn and some weird acne for weeks now. No appointments until the end of this month. Not sure what traditions to do?
I have a 9yo boy, im scared shitless about having twins. Any advice would be welcome. So far everytime i tell anyone its twins they act as if my life is ending and Im doomed :/
  • @happymommy967 I get some of those same responses and try to quickly divert it to something happy like finding out the genders and how awesome I think it would be to have a boy and a girl. Don't let those people be Debbie Downers!

The twin experienced ladies in this thread have been awesome for advice and tips, and researching/planning usually helps me not freak out. Don't get me wrong, I have waves of feeling like I'm gong to totally fail, but just remember that there are only a few things babies really NEED, like clean diaper and food in their tummy. Getting overwhelmed will just stress you out. We're all here to take it one day at a time together!
  • @happymommy967 You aren't the only one scared shitless! But, I do agree with @KathrynJ088. The ladies here have been very helpful and reassuring.

@clovelyone No, I didn't take it with the twins. Since this is my second pregnancy and my first resulted in active labor (my water broke) at 31 weeks, they have no idea if it was because I was holding twins, or because my water broke I went in labor or because I was in labor my water broke. My doctor highly recommends me starting progesterone shots to carry this baby to full term.  I honest to god think that I went that early because their were two in there and there wasn't enough room. I'm tall 5'7, but I think they were just way to jammed up in there.  I was measuring more than a month ahead the whole pregnancy and by the time I hit 31 weeks I was almost measuring full term!

@KathrynJ088 We did two rock n plays for the first 8 weeks, as my little guys came home on monitors and it was easier, plus they liked being elevated a little bit.  Then they shared a crib for a few weeks until they started to move more and then eventually they each got their own crib.  If you have a crib from your previous babies, I would probably just buy one more crib or a pack n play and call it good!

@happymommy976 it is a lot of work, but once you get a routine down, it's not that bad.  If you have a 9 yr old hopefully he or she will be able to help too.  I do suggest if you have family near by to ask for help in the beginning whether its feeding the babies or coming over to watch them just so you can shower and or get out of the house for an hour or sleep.  You'll need it.   The first 3 months or so will be rough (and quite honestly I think my SO and I blocked it out), but after that it gets better.

I also recommend downloading the Wonder Weeks app on your phone. It's super helpful!  It's based off a book, that basically states that all babies/children go through the same developmental milestones around the same times and it goes off your due date.  It's been extremely helpful for us to know when a fussy week (or sometimes month --think 4 month sleep regression) is coming up!

  • @tmk0325 Wow! They measured a month ahead? Do you think that they just miscalculated your due date or date of conception? That seems quite far off. Did your babies have to spend time in the NICU?

@clovelyone No sorry I must of said that wrong, they weren't measuring a month ahead physically, but I was!  It's normal for twin mom's bellies to measure bigger. So for example a singleton at 31 weeks is typically right around 31 weeks, but for twins at 31 weeks my belly measured at about 36 or so weeks. As you get further along they take a tape measure to your belly and measure it. :)  So essentially my body felt what it would feel like to carry a singleton at 36 weeks, but I was only 31 weeks.

  • @tmk0325 I never had any fundal height measurements...
@KathrynJ088 we got a pack-n-play with a large bassinet on the top (it had a wide bassinet and a changing station attachment. Both wins fit in that until 3-4 months and then the pack and play had a raised area that was about half the size and they were in there till 6 months. After that we transitioned them to a single crib in their own room. (I will say we tried to put them in separate cribs but DS would not have it.) we finally separated them in to their own cribs (same room) at 9-10 months when DS was moving around so much he would wake DD up. My twins LOVED to be together and slept better next to one another than seperate.

@happymommy967 its ok to be scared. we all were/are. twins can be a lot of work but the are also one of the most amazing things ever! your life is far from over. Soon you won't be able to imagine your life without them or them as signletons. My twins are so bonded I can't imagine them ever being singletons. They have their own language, make each other laugh, team up, pester one another. It is so worth every hard moment. Plus its double the hugs and kisses!!!!

  • @tmk0325 I wish I had stuff still from my first two, but it was about 8 and a half years ago for my last one. We lived in an apartment when she was two, so didn't have room to keep any baby stuff! I was thinking of the mini cribs bc they convert to twin size beds, which with two in a room, it would give more space to play than the full size convertible ones. I've jyst heard they're hard to shop for, but I can sew sheets easy peasy.

I feel like so much will just depend on their preference, which I didn't feel with my other kids!
  • @tmk0325 Gotcha! Thanks for the explanation!
  • Baby kicks are happening!!! I can for sure tell Baby B is groovin around, and it always takes me by surprise!
  • @KathrynJ088 thats fantastic! its such an amazing feeling. Just wait till they start having cage matches and your belly is just rolling in all sorts of odd ways!

  • Just wanted to say we got another US and weigh in yesterday. I'm gaining right on track (like 2 lbs lol), and the babies are looking good with HBs in the 140 range. We didn't hear them, but my doctor could see them.
Next US is the NT scan and meeting with my MFM doctor on the 21st.
Its effing great to be able to see them and know that they're doing everything they're supposed to be doing :)
And I'm starting to see the beginning of a baby bump that's not food baby bump. Exciting stuff over here!
  • @breezybee I loved the extra ultrasounds. it was so great seeing the babies more often

Ohhh I keep forgetting to mention this to you ladies, its a bit far off at the moment but we LOVED the baby tracker app. you can set it up for more than one baby, you can record when and how much they ate, when and what kind of diapers they had, you can record sleep and activity, you can also record check ups (height, weight, and it will graph it against WHO normal's for you.  you can see things in weeks or months if you want to follow trends. it was amazing and you can sync it with your SO's phone so if your away from the babies you can see how they are doing.  It was so helpful to keep track of who had eaten and how long it had been. it was great for answering any doctor questions. Super user friendly in your sleep deprived state. so get this app!

  • Hi ladies! Sorry this is a couple of days late, I just got home from vacation yesterday.

How far along are you (how many babies)?
I'll be at 12 weeks tomorrow!

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
My next one is on June 19 and I am counting down the days!

How are you feeling this week?
I was on a cruise this past week and definitely did not eat as healthy as I should have, so I felt really gross and bloated for a lot of the trip. I also got sea sick on a couple of the days, so that sucked. I'm feeling fine today though and am trying to eat healthier (though they made it super challenging with donuts, pizza, and rice crispy treats at work today, but I only had one rice crispy treat).

What traditions are you looking forward to starting with your twins?
I really look forward to singing and reading with them

    What questions/advice do you have?
Not too many questions this week. I'll probably have new ones after my next appointment.
  • @wabash15 Yes!  Sounds like an app I'll definitely need. Thanks for the recommendation
  • I'm a little late this week.  Nausea.  Accomplishing bare minimum everywhere.

How far along are you (how many babies)?  10 weeks, 3 days, Mo/Di twins

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?  Nothing this week.  Next week, I go to the ob/gyn for the first time.  Released by RE last week, which is when we saw the membrane (yay!) and hear heartbeats!

How are you feeling this week?
    Nausea.  All the nausea.

What traditions are you looking forward to starting with your twins?
Reading to them.  Their first book will probably be Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone (just to have time to hear my voice every day).  Once their eyes focus enough to see picture books, we'll do picture books.

    What questions/advice do you have?
Nausea gets better, right?  I'm on diclegis, and wouldn't be able to survive without it, but I'm counting on the 2nd tri being easier.  I know it doesn't always work out that way, and multiples moms sometimes experience nausea all pregnancy long...
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • @klake42 the nausea gets better. it does. For me after the first trimester with the twins it would come back if I needed to eat but as soon as I ate it was better. So as time goes try to eat lots of small meals. hang in there!
