Weight loss?

Anybody else find they are losing weight in the second tri? I'm down 2lbs in 2 weeks. No more nausea but I can't eat much at a time and I'm just not as hungry, plus a lot more active. I know my OB didn't want me to gain much more but really doesn't want weight loss so I'm a little concerned. Maybe I need to add some protein drinks in my day?

  • I started at 220 and 5' 8" and at my last visit I was down to 209, doctor kinda shrugged and asked if I was able to eat and drink and keep down my prenatal, when I told her yes she said not to worry too much then, baby will get what it needs from those things and me loosing weight isnt the end of the world. I am betting your two lbs could even be water weight, pre pregnancy I could vary 5 lbs in a week just simply from that.
  • Thanks ladies. I figured I was being irrational. I've struggled with weight my whole life and normally 2lbs in 2 weeks would be major cause for celebration and a huge loss (I generally average like .2lbs per week with weight watchers). I'll just keep an eye on it and try to keep making good choices. I gained too much first trimester, so I'm hoping to at least level out this one. My doc did give me the ok to gain 25-30 despite the recommendation for 10-15 at my weight, because of my activity and fitness levels (fit fatty FTW!). She stressed not dieting and trying to lose, so I'm struggling a bit in my brain to make good choices but not to the point of dieting. This is hard!
  • @irishfrisky, I don't blame you, everything makes me nervous as a FTM my doctor seems to be ok as long and I am eating a drinking, she is a big fan of me using ensure and V8 to make sure I am getting nutrients even if it's liquid, it's easier for me to consume those, particularly because I have had morning sickness the whole time and honestly I would rather it be liquids than foods to come up if it's going to happen.
  • No weight loss here, but I've only gained 3lbs all pregnancy. Doctor said not to worry too much, that baby looked good and they'd keep an eye on my weight just in case. I wouldn't stress too much, weight during pregnancy can fluctuate and be totally different for every woman and every pregnancy.
  • With my first I didn't gain weight until about 6 months in and then in one big go...like 10 lbs in 1 month. Drs weren't too worried saying as long as the belly was growing, heatbeat strong, and I was feeling good everyone was getting what they needed.

  • I wouldn't worry. I don't put much thought into the weight gain. I think bodies are different. I gained 60 with my first since I had dropped 110 before getting pregnant my body was ready to gain. With my second I only gained 30 and dropped 25 in the first month with both. I always gain more in first tri than the other two too.

  • I am 18 weeks and I've gained 17 lbs,  my Dr told me she recommends not going over 25 lbs. Ohhh the stress. I'm not over weight by any means but I don't want to gain 60+ like my first pregnancy.
  • I am 18 weeks and I have lost a 8lbs. With my two boys the MS was so bad I lost 20lbs with each in the first two trimesters before picking up any weight. I am overweight so the drs have always been fine with me loosing as long as the baby's growth is on track.

  • So, a doula I interviewed last week sent me this because I had had similar concerns re pregnancy and weight gain/loss.  Obviously, neither the doula nor myself are medical professionals, and while well sourced, I don't think this article could or should replace your relationship with your doctor- I personally really appreciated finally having a "measure" to compare myself to.  I think the article does a really good job of saying "This isn't everyone!  This is just average!" I don't even actually fit within the article's perimeters because only in the last week have I finally made it back to pre-pregnancy weight and actually gained about 3 lbs (and I'm 19 weeks tomorrow)...  Most importantly, listen to your doctor and trust your body.  Force feeding yourself when nauseous helps no one.  And I totally second the difficult line between being healthy and eating to lose.

I'm basically exactly the same. When I checked at 17 weeks I had gained 13 pounds .
I don't have a scale so I can't tell but I'm definitely huger now and I'm stressed about putting on a lot of weight. My goal is to keep it under 30
  • I gained 14 my first 14 weeks and technically not supposed to gain more than 15. Ob said she'd be happy with 25-30. It's stressful!
  • If your doctor isn't too concerned, then I wouldn't fret too much. 2lbs isn't a ton. I only just started gaining weight at 16 weeks and I am up 2.5 lbs. I see my doc on Tuesday, but I am guessing she won't be very concerned.
