Since "What should I ask at my first RE appointment?" is a fairly common question with some great answers from the IF crew, I was thinking that we should put it all in one place.

Re: What to Ask at Your First RE Appointment
1. Ask is how you can ask more questions. I went in with a handful of questions and even though I was generally mentally prepared, knowledgeable about the procedures and lingo, and knew what to expect as far as a suggested plan of action, I still got overwhelmed and forgot to ask a lot of them.
2. Mostly, they're going to be the ones with all of the questions so go in super prepared to answer all of their questions. Cycles, what you think the problem is, all of your medications and supplements, when what happened, etc.

Why they are suggesting that specific treatment plan based on your diagnosis
What are you chances of success
When would they suggest you switch treatments (lack of response, X number of failed cycles, etc)
Risks to you from the treatments, risk of multiples, risks to baby
2) Mention the small things. With one of my REs giving her more of the story instead of just the facts helped her think through what might be some unique solutions for us.
3) Ask for best way to contact them. Do they prefer to do their own scheduling? Have a nurse handle a lot of the communications? What is an acceptable response time from them, or when should you reach out or escalate if you don't hear from them?
4) If you are planning on proceeding with IUI/IVF treatment, ask what they do in the case you procedure lands on a holiday (4th of July is coming up).

I would also ask practical questions like what time are monitoring appointments? What if I need to come in on a weekend/holiday? What are those hours like? Will I always see the same doctor?
Ask about supplements, acupuncture, diet changes that your RE might recommend.
