Re: Healthy Habits Check-In Week of 5/29

  • 1. What healthy habit are you working on?
I went to the doctor the other day and lo-and-behold, I've gained 10 lbs in the past month. *TW* What with getting KU, then the loss, then drinking all the beer and basically dropping all my healthy habits, I'm not surprised, but it was still a wake-up call. */TW*
So, I'm trying to eat healthier (more veggies, more beans, less meat/cheese, more whole grains, less sugar), drink fewer beers, eat less in general (I tend to overeat/snack) and work out 5-6 days/week.

    2. How is it going?
The last couple of days have been good. I've been really on it with healthy meals and snacks, and have been getting regular exercise. I don't own a scale, so I don't know if I'm losing weight, but I'm definitely feeling better about the situation.

    3. What is a small win from last week?
I normally do workout videos, but if the workout is longer than 30 minutes I break it up into more than one day, because I usually don't have the time/energy for that. Yesterday I did a whole one, and it was almost an hour! I felt really proud of myself, and it wasn't too hard, so I think I'll try to do that more often.

    4. GTKY: What's your least favorite vegetable?
I've managed to get over all the vegetables that I used to not like, to the point where some of my most hated veggies of my childhood are now my favorites. If I had to pick a least favorite though, I'd say rutabagas.

  • @hedgepig way to get the workout done!!

    1. What healthy habit are you working on? Losing weight--21 day fix

    2. How is it going? I've lost 7.2 pounds.  And while I've toned up, I'm still not going to be bikini ready by H's family reunion in 2 weeks. Sigh. Tankinis it is.  I've been following the containers strictly except last Friday.  The kids brought in chips & cookies to share and we had pizza. I couldn't handle it and totally cheated. And ate a lot!

    3. What is a small win from last week? I continued to workout every day.

    4. GTKY: What's your least favorite vegetable? Peppers!  If they're in anything I can tell--they're a total contaminate!!

  • 1. I'm trying to get myself motivated to work out. I bought a Fitbit and it is being delivered Wednesday. Thank you amazon prime. I also would like to cut down on the amount of sugar I take in each day.

    2. I haven't started yet.

    3. N/A

    4. I hate mushrooms. They are slimy and smell awful!
  • @hedgepig Good job on getting through the workout!

    @purplg8r Awesome weight loss!

@meatball37 I'm looking at getting a Fitbit too

    1. What habit are you currently working on? Overall health, losing weight, working on my relationship with food (tend to overeat, emotional eat, bored eat, etc)

    2. How's it going? Amazing. I am almost up to 25 lbs lost. Idk how I'm doing it but I hope it keeps going!

    3. What is a small win from last week? Don't really have one, I thought my weigh in today was going to be horrid but I was down 3.2 from last week

    4. GTKY what's your least favorite vegetable?  Brussel sprouts - DH LOVES them, I think they smell like farts

  • 1. What healthy habit are you working on? Eating better, losing about 20 lbs, working out (half marathon training plan)

    2. How is it going? I thought I did well last week until I stepped on the scale and gained weight. It was only 0.2 lbs so it wasn’t a significant amount but it’s still really frustrating. Then I could barely run anything today, which made today even worse. I feel like I did better, not perfect, but better. I kept to my training schedule and only missed one cross training workout because I was exhausted and needed a rest day. I ate out a little more than I should have but I had a good amount of healthy meals. It’s really frustrating and I feel like I haven’t been progressing well with my running. Today was a complete bust. I felt like I was going to pass out after ½ mile after a 2.5 mile run and rest day this weekend. Motivation will be hard to come by this week.

    3. What is a small win from last week? I stuck with my training schedule.

    4. GTKY: What's your least favorite vegetable? Carrots, just can’t do them.

@hedgepig – ugh that scale is a bitch isn’t it. I had a major wake up call in that department recently too. GL this week!

@purplg8r – great job on the weight loss, sticking to the 21-day fix and workouts! Keep it up this week!

@meatball37 – I LOVE my fitbit. Which one did you get?

@RVAmom315 – awesome on the weight loss! Send some of that weight loss mojo over here! LOL you should def get a fitbit. They have a cool new feature that detects REM sleep, deep sleep, light sleep, and awake. It’s cool to look at and when I’m feeling extra tired, I look at it and can tell if I didn’t sleep well.

  • @justkeepswimming8 I got the charge 2. Not sure if I really need a HR monitor, but it intrigues me. I used to have a plain Fitbit about three years ago which helped me lose about 8 lbs for my wedding. I'm hoping for similar results! Which one do you have? I re-downloaded the app and it looks so different since the last time I used it!
  • @meatball37 - I also have the charge 2. The heart rate monitor helps calculate calories more accurately so I like that about it. Also, I heard from Dr. Google that your resting heart rate goes up during pregnancy so I keep track of it as just another symptom to spot. LOL

  • 1. What healthy habit are you working on? More water, less alcohol, and exercising regularly.

    2. How is it going? Last week did not go well at all! I lost all motivation to exercise when AF hit, and my brother's wedding messed up my alcoholic beverage limit. I'm just looking to start fresh this week!

    3. What is a small win from last week? Nothing that I can think of. I went on a nice long hike today though, so I'm getting back on track.

    4. GTKY: What's your least favorite vegetable? Canned peas and green beans. I like them both fresh or frozen though.

@hedgepig Way to go on your workout video & healthy eating!

@purplg8r Congrats on your weight loss!!

@meatball37 I used to hate mushrooms, too, but they've grown on my recently (not literally).

@RVAmom315 I love hearing about your weight loss every week! It's pretty amazing!

@justkeepswimming8 Nice job keeping with your training schedule! Hopefully your next run will feel better.

@hedgepig Nice job with the workout!

@purplg8r Congrats on the weight loss!

    @meatball37 GL with the sugar!

@RVAmom315 Your weight loss is so impressive. I need a picture of you on my wall or something.

@justkeepswimming8 I'm having a similar problem to what you're experiencing. I'm like, have I plateau'd, what is this? I def think eating out makes a big difference. Restaurants put so much fat and sugar into everything. I had no idea people wore fit bits to sleep! I couldn't do that.

@Cricket648 I went overboard on food and alcohol last week too. Must get back into it! BTW as per our conversation before, I tested negative for celiac. (Yay, gluten for me/Boo, no answers for me.) Then I got my 23andme back and it said I have the gene that makes me more likely to have lactose intolerance, which makes NO sense because I have the opposite stomach problem. The good news is (TMI) my PCP put me on a TTC/KU-friendly gentle laxative, which seems to be helping.... she said I could go see a specialist to probably get diagnosed with IBS, but that apart from laxatives they would probably want to give me invasive testing ie. colonoscopy, which we agreed sounds like a bad idea TTC.

    1. What healthy habit are you working on?
Name one, and I'm probably working on it lol.

    2. How is it going? Between birthday and family visiting, the last 2 weeks have been a big fail. Though MH and I did very well on our hike today and didn't get winded at all, so I must not be as out of shape as I think? TMI but now that I at least have some kind of relief for my stomach problem, I'm hoping I have an easier time trying to lose the weight I gained last year. Does anyone know whether constipation makes it so that you absorb more fat from food that you wouldn't otherwise absorb? The weight gain and the constipation started at the same time for me and that would seem to make sense, but not sure.

    3. What is a small win from last week?

    4. GTKY: What's your least favorite vegetable? We used to get a CSA and one week we got "quinoa greens", which is NOT the same as quinoa, the grain, by itself. I tried to make them edible, I really did. They're supposed to be really good for you. But they were super bitter and I couldn't get them down. Neither could MH.
  • Just posting tonight because it's getting late. I'll come back tomorrow and read/respond to everyone's posts I promise!

    1. What healthy habit are you working on?
Still working on exercising regularly. The healthy eating is way harder for me, so I'm just trying to focus on getting to my boot camp classes.

    2. How is it going? Really good! I went to bootcamp 4 times last week and will go 4 times again this week. I would've gone 5, but I worked today and they had limited class times because of the holiday. Definitely going to shoot for 5 times next week.

    3. What is a small win from last week? I lost 4 pounds!!!!!

    4. GTKY: What's your least favorite vegetable? Kale. I can't stand it, even when its cooked. I know it's a "super food" but honestly I kinda judge people who say they like it. Like what are your taste buds doing??

  • 1. What healthy habit are you working on? I am trying to lose 20+ pounds for a progesterone biopsy.

    2. How is it going? Not well, I was down about 6 lbs. but now have gained most of it back. I need to get back on track with the smaller meals and fewer snacks.

    3. What is a small win from last week? I managed to exercise a bit more during the week again. 2 weeks ago was a really rough week for me with depression and whatnot so I'd quit exercising that week and ate more.

    4. GTKY: What's your least favorite vegetable? Beets. Ugh.

@JustKeepSwimming8 Sorry about the weight gain. It sucks to put so much effort into it and then see the scale go up.  Just have to remember it’s just a number. Do you take measurements? DH and I started taking measurements and it helps me when I see the scale number not moving but the inches coming off.

@Amphibious22 Kale is definitely overrated and I think it's no longer considered a superfood. Also apparently if you eat it raw some people are now saying that is bad for your thyroid!
  • @vflux33 I'm certainly glad that you don't have celiac, but that sucks that you still don't have a clear answer. I'm glad that your PCP seems to be helpful and understanding with the TTC process! Also, I've never heard of quinoa greens before, but I don't think I'll be trying them anytime soon.
