Young siblings sharing rooms?

Would love to hear from anyone whose young kids share a room!  We have a 2.5 year old and #2 is due in a couple weeks. We have enough bedrooms for each to have their own, but have been wondering if they should share...(baby will be in our room in bassinet for first 3ish months anyway). Thoughts?

I'd put them in separate rooms. It's going to be a big enough transition for your older child, no need to invade his/her space and disrupt his/her sleep schedule any more than you have to

  • I have a friend who has 3 kids share a room. Ages 4, 2 and almost 1, she said they love it and the oldest 2 sleep through any crying from the youngest, they even have a spare room but the kids love it so much. Then a friend has an almost 3 year old and a 6 month old sharing a room (2 bedroom house) and it's a disaster. Baby can't sleep without a noisemaker, oldest says it's too loud. Baby needs pitch black, oldest scared of the dark. Take turns crying at night (and oldest was a terrific sleeper). She said in an ideal world they would've waited till baby was a year and sleeping all night, you could just see how everyone sleeps after baby is born to decide :) we'd love to have kids share a room but we'll wait a bit.

  • My 4 year old and 1 year old have shared a room since he was like 6 month old. He sleeps through his brothers crying even when we were sleep training and he would cry for 2 hrs straight (I would go in and check on him just wouldn't give him his bottle) and Joseph (older one) said he never hear him cry at night. If you want a play room or office they can definitely share a room. I plan on putting new baby girl in my girls room around 6months old and she's super excited.
