VBAC vs Csection...

Okay so my doctor does not do induced labor after a c section, he said if I go into labor on my own (which didn't happen with my first) then I have the choice to labor or go in for the c section. I'm not 100% sure what I want to do or when he will decide my official c section date... I'm hoping he will let me at least go until my due date and if I havnt gone into labor then he can schedule my c section... anyone have experience with this?!?

    No experience but I am hoping to VBAC after Csection in Feb2016. My midwife said that her practice will allow me to go 1 week past EDD to try to go into labor, assuming all NST look good. Every Dr/practice seems to have their own rules, the practice that delivered DD wouldn't even consider allowing me to VBAC. Current plan is to discuss risks and benefits at 30 week appointment so we can decide what will be best for baby and me.

    My doctor and I decided on a repeat csection for this pregnancy based on the way the first laboring went, but he was also very willing to do either and allow me to be a part of the decision. I would agree with @sarahunderthesea that each practice is different, but I would also go one step further and say that you may want to check with other practices to see if you prefer their policies over your own doctors. With my first pregnancy, I switched doctors at 27 weeks because i didn't agree with some of his policies and wanted to make sure I got the delivery I wanted, not the one he wanted for me. It wasn't the easiest thing to do so far into the pregnancy, but I couldn't have been happier with my decision.

    Great point, @mommawolff11 don't be afraid to try another practice if you feel that your current practice doesn't meet your needs. I am so happy I made the switch to a practice that will listen to me and my concerns rather than dealing with the "I'm the Dr, do you have medical training? No? Then do as I say" approach (slight over dramatization, I hope).

    My ob will schedule csection at 40 weeks, but when I said I wanted to wait until 42, they said we can do to that assuming NST's are passed. If you want to wait longer, self advocate and you may find your doc is more flexible than it first appears

    My drs are VBAC fans and will allow me to go to 41 weeks if all is well.

    I think I'm going to plan to go up to a week maybe less past my due date and see what happens if I don't go into labor then I will schedule a csection. I thought about switching but my doctor has a very very good reputation and delivered my daughter so I have all the trust in the world in him. I think changing doctors would cause me so much stress and anxiety... he's saved about 3 people that I know lives!

    My doctor recommends a repeat C Section and I'm fine with that.

    I'll be a repeat though this dr (new for this baby) said I can try vbac if I wanted to. My abdominal muscles don't seem to contract the right direction to push the baby. This is my third and last baby.

    I think most doctors who do vbacs are similar to yours and will let you try as long as you go into labor in your own. I've heard if they have to induce you, the pitocin contractions are too strong and that's why it's riskier. I'll have another repeat csection-3rd and final, because of my first labor and not progressing. I'm not a great candidate for it, but I think my dr maybe would have let me try if I pushed it.
