Babies: 9 - 12 Months

A Somewhat Sad Observation.

So last night the mouse was down early, by about 730. At 1015 he woke up crying and after a few minutes I went in to check on him and it was clear he was not going to easily fall back to sleep. Usually when he wakes up we do a small 3 oz bottle but he had only been asleep for 3 hours and had 8 oz when he went to bed. So I picked him up and started rocking him.

He has never been a fan of rocking, but I thought I would try. Nope, still not a fan. He cried. He screamed. He wailed. So I walked around the room and starting humming really soft and low. He continued to cry, scream and wail. Finally I put him in my arms like a cradle out in front of me, and swung him back and forth like our swing would have done. That helped. THEN I stopped humming and put the crib soother on. He stopped crying immediately.

My son likes his gagets more than he likes me. In fact, he's more FAMILIAR with his gagets than he is with his own mother trying to soothe him. Gawd I am a failure.

He was, however, back in his crib asleep in 15 min, and then slept until 7am.

Re: A Somewhat Sad Observation.

  • I'm sure that's not true.  Sounds to me like he wants his Mommy and his gadgets.  (Smart kid.)

  • You are not a failure!!! YOU figured out what worked and YOU soothed him! That is what makes you a good mom!

  • Not true.  And you are not a failure.

When he's 8 and only wants to play with his video games, his iPod, etc....then he'll be more interested in his gadgets.

    couldn't have said it better!

  • you're not a failure! you did what any good mommy would do, get that baby back in that crib asleep so you can get some too! Stick out tongue and yay for STTN (kinda)! wasnt it an issue a few weeks back?!
  • I agree with Jessi- you are not a failure.

I, however, am a failure because I'm reading this and thinking...I wish my kid was into the crib soother and gadgets...maybe I could get some sleep.

    I suck.

  • sometimes it's the simple things they need and we spend too much time trying to figure it out. Doesn't mean we are failures just trying to really make sure DC is taken care of---
