TTC after 35

Question on using OPKs

Hi ladies! I have never used OPKs before. I haven't had AF since my loss yet but I stopped bleeding yesterday and figured I'd see if  I ovulate before AF shows up... I took my first wondfo OPK this afternoon and there is a faint line not as dark as the test line yet... should it be getting darker day by day or will it stay super faint and then just one day get dark?  I'm not really sure what I should be seeing after today

Re: Question on using OPKs

  • I only ovulated once while using OPKs, but for me they were all over the board instead of gradually getting darker. It was very obviously much darker when I ovulated though.
    Good luck
  • thank you!

@harleyquinn0621 I got so aggravated with the wondfos & all the guessing. It stressed me out! I ended up getting the ones with a smiley face, that way it was yes or no. The wondfos should be as dark or darker than the control line. I didn't notice any gradual darkening of them, I don't know that would be an indicator. The way I understand it is you either have the LH surge or you don't.

  • @harleyquinn0621 I don't think I've ever gotten a true positive using Wondfos (in which the test line is actually *darker* than the control line - except for when I was playing with them as pregnancy tests when I was pregnant since they pick up hcg too).  I used them the cycle that we got pregnant, then I've used them my two cycles between IVF cycles this year to determine whether I could start lupron for suppression (subsequently confirmed with progesterone test).  My RE's office suggested that I get digitals to confirm, and that seemed to work okay for me (using Wondfos then confirming with a digital once I thought I might have a positive).

Mine didn't really get progressively darker closer to O day or anything, and they haven't been terribly predictive for me.  Back in July, I did appear to ovulate the day after I got my LH surge positive, but my temps for this past March and May (and I didn't get the + till almost 10PM!) indicate that I ovulated the days that I got the positives, so who knows?

  • I didn't have wondfos, I had some other off brand that were basically the same thing and mine got progressively darker after a certain point (usually after CD 12). I could always tell the day before positive OPK because it would be nearly as dark as the control line. This was extremely consistent for me even though my ovulation wasn't "strong" enough to release a mature egg (post O progesterone was 7.5 before Clomid).

  • Mine always stay faint until it gets really dark. With Wondfo mine was never darker, just as dark.
