Weight loss?

Hi, everyone! Sorry, I feel like I make a lot of threads on here...but I have a lot of questions! :) I'm 17 1/2 weeks pregnant and seen to have been losing a decent amount of weight. It's freaking me out. I know I'm supposed to be gaining a pound a week. When I got pregnant, I weighed probably around 155 pounds (I'm 5'4" and have a stockier build). I stepped on the scale today and weighed like 144 :( I haven't thrown up even once throughout my pregnancy. I can eat, but if I eat a lot, I feel nauseous. I generally eat pretty healthy and walk for exercise every day. I have a decent sized baby bump, so the baby must be growing, right? I have my anatomy ultrasound in a week and a half and I'm nervous because of all this weight loss. Before I got pregnant, I struggled to lose weight! Now that I want to gain it, I'm losing it!

I just bought some Costco brand Ensure to see if that helps. Any ideas/suggestions? Anyone experiencing the same thing? Thanks!

Re: Weight loss?

  • I yoyo a little in the first trimester and started the second trimester at my pre pregnancy weight and my doc said I should be gaining in my second trimester. Definitely check with your doc, but the AS will determine if the baby is growing well. It's possible that your eating well and staying active is helping you lose some weight

  • At my last appointment I had lost 6 pounds and he wasn't concerned then.

  • With my last pregnancy I had only gained 5 pounds at 20 weeks. Then I started eating all the milkshakes. Maybe try that?

In all seriousness, if your doctor is not concerned I would try not to worry. The weight will come.

  • @australianshepherdlover I sent you a PM but basically I'm in the same boat. My OB was worried at my 16 wk appointment but didn't mention anything about my weight after AS when baby was looking healthy and large, even though I lost another pound.

  • @jessafishy like actual milkshakes? I could do that...;)

@PizzaMonster3 thanks for the reassurance! I hope my ultrasound goes well as well.

  • I haven't posted in weeks because I've been super busy (time flies in the second pregnancy!), but I had to reply to this because I literally just asked my Maternal Fetal Specialist this at my anatomy scan today. I'm 18 weeks and I haven't gained a single pound. I'm actually about 2-3 pounds down from my starting weight. She said that as long as the baby is gaining weight and measuring correctly for her gestational age, mom's lack of weight gain doesn't matter. I only gained 10 pounds during my last pregnancy (baby was born 6 weeks early) and I didn't start picking up the weight until the end. So let's just enjoy the lack of weight gain while we can!! :)
