I'm not sure I have an answer to your question. I start my meds on cd3, but I have read that some doctors start patients on cd 5. You could ask your doctor if you haven't already.
@SunflowerMama428 What's the test for on CD 21? That seems very early for a beta. Is it progesterone?
My RE's office starts medications anywhere from CD 3-5. Of course, other offices prefer CD 3, so I'm not really sure what the logic is. That said, is your doctor doing any other monitoring for you while you're on clomid (like follow-up ultrasounds)? If so, he or she would then have a much better idea of when you're close to ovulating. My RE's office also has me do OPKs, but since you have PCOS (right?), maybe they wouldn't do that for you? My RE told me that clomid follicles can grow very big, so there is a chance you would ovulate later than normal. Long story short, I'd definitely ask your doctor how he or she knows that CD 21 is the right day for your test.
@Bababatty It's for progesterone. I can't go to my RE until my obgyn recommends it and since my current DH has a normal SI and all my cd3 test came back normal he wants to do three rounds of clomid. That being said he doesn't think ultrasounds are necessary. I already asked that. I put in a call I'm waiting to hear back but I feel like Obgyn's kind of go through the motions and I'm like clawing at the window to give myself the best chance lol
@SunflowerMama428 I've definitely heard conflicting things about setting the progesterone test on CD21 across the board since not everyone Os at the same time--which you obviously know since that's your concern, haha. I'm honestly not sure what the right answer is. Hmmm.... do you have success turning OPKs or charting? If so, I'd say do your own basic monitoring that way at least so you have a better idea of when you're actually ovulating. Then you could push back if needed and say, "Look, I know 21 is too early because I didn't O until CDX." I'm sorry your OBGYN seems to be going through the motions! That's so frustrating! I'm glad you're doing as much as possible to be your own best advocate.
Thanks @Bababatty I think next cycle I'm just going to turn into crazy lady who pees on all the things so I can tell my obgyn look I tested three times a day and this is what my opk and temps were lol and see how that matches to the cd21 test. Because I guess it's possible I missed my surge? The line got darker but never a true positive
@SunflowerMama428 During my last round of clomid they had me come in on CD 21 as well. They did not even ask me when I ovulated, and I did ovulate a bit later than usual (I started on CD 5-9 as well). Even though I ovulated later the test still showed that I ovulated, I think it is just a standard day they pick since they don't know when everyone ovulates, so they take the average day.
