I'm not sure what happened, but the rest of my post didn't show up... Here it is though:

A little about me, I'm 28 and we have been actively TTC #2 for 14 months with no luck so far. My other half (35) doesn't have any children yet, but I have a 7 year old son from a previous relationship (his father passed away) that my fiancé loves and cares for as if he were his own.

Our journey is still fairly new, as we're just starting into our second year, but I'm hoping I can find some support and advice from you wonderful ladies who can relate to our struggle. Though we're frustrated, and at times discouraged, we're hopeful that someday soon we'll see two pink lines in that little window!

I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you! ❤

  • Welcome @MissMo - I hope you find support here. I was going to ask the same as pp - have you had any testing done yet? Best of luck to you!
  • Thank you all for the warm welcome!!
  • I'm sorry I haven't been on to answer all of your questions, I've been working a lot and haven't had much time to myself lately. But I'm taking the time tonight! :)

As of right now, we haven't been to see anyone regarding fertility yet, but I have been tracking my cycles for quite a while and we are "trying" about every other night, sometimes every two nights. I went for my yearly exam about 2ish weeks ago and she said everything looks fine and write me a prescription for prenatal vitamins and ordered a pelvic ultrasound to check things out. She recommended OPKs and temping, which I hadn't been doing because we are already stressing so much, we wanted to keep it as "natural" as possible and not obsess anymore than we already are. Also, she put me on an antibiotic due to a bacterial infection (not an STI, she reassured me because I panicked for a split second!) and I just finished that a couple days ago.

Tonight was my first time taking one of the OPK tests since it's CD12 for me and I'm feeling something happening down really low on my right side, and I saw two dark likes! I'm going to keep testing and temping and let this cycle be my learning cycle, as we both try to figure all this fancy stuff out! Haha! Also, to make me feel less like a test subject and also ease our minds, he took one of the at-home sperm test kits and passed with flying colors, so that was a huge relief for both of us.

I'm afraid of pursuing a fertility specialist, as I really don't want bad news, but I'm also not sure how to even go about that. This is part of why I joined this group, I feel like you guys can give me advice and help me find the answers I'm looking for.

Please bear with me as I figure everything out on here, there's so much to learn! I'm sorry that we're all here, but I'm happy to have all of you! Best of luck to everyone!

    ((hugs))
  • @MissMo - how long did it take you to conceive your first? Do you think there is a chance that your SO may have MFI? Do you think he'd be willing to do a test with a specialist? I've never heard of the at-home sperm test kits.

If you are struggling with MFI, depending on his counts, you may have some success with IUI, which is (relatively) inexpensive, compared to IVF. So it's worth going in and finding out. It's also probably worth having some bloodwork done, just to test your FSH and progesterone. 14 months is a long time to try!

I'm surprised your prenatals were prescription! Here, they are over-the-counter.
  • @MissMo let me know if you have any questions using the OKPs and temping. I feel like I am an expert now. Lol. I actually don't do either anymore since I'm going through fertility testing. Plus after almost 2 years of tracking, I know when I ovulate. I don't want to worry you, but you might want to have an actual semen analysis done through a fertility specialist. The drug store tests will show count, but I don't think they report on the mobility or the morphology. Those are also really important.

  • Hi ladies!

@funkykey with my son, his dad and I weren't even trying to get pregnant, I was actually on the pill at the time and pregnancy hadn't even crossed my mind! I was 20 and, like most things at that age, everything seemed to happen much easier, I didn't even realize how lucky I was. Also, forgive me, but I'm not sure what MFI or IUI are? As for blood work, I was just talking with him about that, wondering if I should ask my doctor about running some tests to make sure everything is normal. Should I ask for any other blood work than FSH and progesterone, in your opinion? Oh, and prenatals are otc here too, but I just thought maybe she wrote the rx because maybe they have more vitamins or something? I'm not sure... But either way, they're cheaper through my insurance than otc, so I'll take it! Haha!

@MooFish2364 omg I have SO many questions!! I am seriously overwhelmed by all of this! Google has been very helpful, I look up lots of info, but I'm finding myself Googling questions, then Googling those answers and doing image searches to compare my results with everyone else's. I feel like I'm making this way more complicated than it really is... Lol. I did read that on the box about the sperm count only being one factor, I think you're right about him seeing someone too. Just to cover all bases...

@SoonToBeMommaHowe thank you for the welcome! I'm sorry it's been such a long journey for you, I hope you get your BFP soon!!

Thank you all for being so supportive and welcoming here, I hate knowing you're all struggling with TTC, but a selfish part of me finds comfort in knowing I'm not alone in this. I know many of you have been on this journey much longer than I have, and for you to still offer kind words and encouragement means the world to me. Thank you all for taking the time to talk with me and fingers crossed for all of us!
  • @MissMo - MFI is male factor infertility, so an issue with the sperm. IUI is intrauterine insemination - it's a common infertility treatment, where the lab technicians will separate the sperm from the seminal fluid, so it can swim faster, and then directly inject it into your uterus, past your cervix. It's a really effective treatment for some people, depending on what your issues are.

Since you conceived your first so easily, I'd definitely have your fiance checked out. If you've already got an ultrasound upcoming, after your initial bloodwork, that's the next step for you - that, and then maybe an HSG later, which is a specific kind of x-ray test where they check your fallopian tubes.

Usually, the testing comprises first of some bloodwork - FSH and progesterone, on specific days. Then an ultrasound. Then HSG. Then maybe repeats of bloodwork or tests like AMH.

For the men, the easiest thing to test is the semen. My husband has had some bloodwork done too, but only after we were about to start treatments.

@funkykey interesting. I wonder why my re didn't order an ultrasound for me. I have hsg tomorrow. I even told him that I have two polyps that I know of

  • Hm, @SP128 - that is curious. My first ultrasound and my HSG were a few months apart. My OB/GYN requested the u/s and then when I started with the RE, he requested the HSG.

My OB/GYN reqested the u/s in part because I had a large ovarian cyst when I was younger. We weren't even officially "infertile" yet, but because I'd had this history, she was like: "Let's just check and see if you have any cysts/anything is going on." There was nothing, but it couldn't prove that my tubes were open, so the HSG was necessary.

Maybe if I'd had the HSG first, they wouldn't have required the u/s? Regardless - it's pretty common to have at least some imaging done!
