Re: May IVF

  • @daisy222-2 I had a lot of EWCM the days leading up to my trigger, I think its normal.

@daisy222-2 I think that is normal and you shouldn't ovulate through the Lupron.

@hopeful_mom I'm not sure how many we will transfer, I guess we will wait and see how many fertilize and how the embryos look, etc. My RE said twice lately he had low quality eggs take and result in twins. I'm kinda bummed we have to wait, but I trust my RE if he thinks it's our best shot.

Glad to hear your embryos are progressing nicely. Hope Mondays news is just as good.

  • @daisy222-2 I have had the CM while on stims near the end but it was never a ton.

AFM:  We got our PGS results back and only 2 of our 9 embryos are normal.  I’m trying to stay positive that one or both of those two will give us a healthy baby but my heart is feeling heavy today for the 7 that were abnormal.

  • @2MomsHoping i am sorry your numbers are slim, but 2 healthy is still great. And you have 2 more waiting, or did I misread your signature?

@MMD1986 congratulations! yes those odds are good!

@artemis618 let us know if that acupuncture worked- Im curious.  I just did 2 sessions, and I adjusted other things. too, and my test results improved, so i am not sure what did the trick, but Ill keep on with the acupuncture if I keep seeing that it is helping people!

AFM I got the go-ahead to trigger tonight.  They laid it on thick, because i Have the clomid, a shot of Ganirelix, then the tablet thing, and 2 trigger shots.  the ganirelix burned and bothered my stomach for a while and i dont remember it doing that last time. Did that burn yall?

So my ER is Sunday morning, and after 3 delays, I am thrilled.  Hoping for one nice little darlin out of this.   And then. more waiting, of course!!

  • MMD1986 thats great news! hoping they all keep growing strong!!

    littledarlins good luck tomorrow!

@2MomsHoping  congrats on getting normies!!  2 is better then 1 and 1 is better then none!  My friend told me that when i went through the same thing last month.  We always want them all back but thank goodness it was something!  Are you looking to do a transfer next?

  • Thanks to everyone who responded about my CM question yesterday, I appreciate it. Things looked fine at my US this AM but I sure had gotten myself worried about ovulation yesterday.

MMD1986 wow, that is so amazing!! Congrats!

2MomsHoping I am so sorry that only 2 were normal. I know 2 is better than none, but it sucks when you were probably expecting more.

littledarlins Yay, good luck tomorrow! And wow, that is a complicated trigger cocktail!

All week long my Dr was saying that we were on track for a Monday retrieval (so I expected to trigger tonight), but instead they want to let some of the smaller ones catch up. The two largest are 19, but most of the others are between 11 and 17. Sigh.....  I am starting to be uncomfortable, but overall happy things are going ok.

@daisy222-2 Did you do your trigger shot yet?

@littledarlins How did your retrieval go?

My nurse called this morning with our day 3 update and said all 3 eggs are doing well!  They are all 8 cells and grade 4, which they said is the best.  So I am super excited.
  • I had my ER yesterday and got 8 eggs from 8 follies. Based on my AMH my RE expected 4-8 eggs so I'm happy with that.
  • I triggered this morning at 1 AM and ER is tomorrow at noon! I really hope I did everything right at 1 AM. I was pretty groggy. I had some bloodwork today that will tell them if ovulation is actually happening, I guess?

There are 7 or 8 that are definitely ready to go, and maybe a few more that may catch up by tomorrow. One of the largest ones is that stupid cyst though, but they can't tell which one.

They are still planning on a fresh day 5 transfer (assuming there is something to transfer!) despite my lining being upwards of 15 mm in places. I feel ok about the fresh transfer, since I am not overstimulated as far as I can tell and I don't really feel like I need a break physically or emotionally, although after some of you mentioned it I've been reading about how frozen transfers have better success rates :/ Well, hopefully we will have some to freeze too.

LadyMillil yay! great news! Will they call today w/ the # fertilized?

@MMD1986  Wonderful!! Happy they are doing so well :):):)

@daisy222 A little late on this, but yes on the ridiculous CM - I think it's just the high estrogen.  what an annoying time to trigger!  GL w/your retrieval (and transfer)!

@Hopeful_mom I guess having been KU for ~12 weeks (edit:  10 weeks KU since we only got to 12) of that year makes it a little better (so it doesn't feel like we've been trying for a whole year), but it is sobering.  Do you have an update on your embabies?

@littledarlins I went to acupuncture on Thursday, was expecting my period Friday (but last time the lupron - or something) made me a couple of days later - enough that my calendar was threatened.  AF showed up on Saturday, so maybe it "worked?"  I'm usually quite regular, but again, I've had drugs in my system every cycle this year :(. Hope your retrieval went well!

@LadyMillil  Fx for a great fert report!

AFM, since AF showed over the weekend, I start stims again tonight.  I'm feeling a bit tired and stressy because of adjusting to a new dog we rescued two Saturdays ago and an upcoming work deadline, but hopefully it will make the time go by faster.

@Hopeful_mom The original plan was to do a fresh transfer but when I woke up from retrieval my doctor recommended we cancel that and do a FET because he has had a lot of success with them lately. So now I'm just waiting on AF so I can schedule the transfer.

I hope you get all three of your embabies back as mormal! Will you be doing a transfer soon or another retrieval cycle?
  • MMD1986 yes u did say that!  your RE had great success and pray it continues!!  girl if i tell u i'm finishing my 3rd cycle bank to bank i really would LOVE to transfer already IF all 3 would come back normal I would BUT the fact that the first cycle of this round all 3 were abnormal is terrifying me!!!  keep praying with me that I can finally move on!!

  • Well my retrieval of the one follicle went fine and they said the egg was mature enough, but as of today, it had not fertilized yet.  I know that usually happens in the first 24 hours, but it can happen later, and they said they will let me know on Wednesday.  ugh.  I am praying for a miracle, and really just that the doctor will be willing to go another round. Does anyone know of eggs fertilizing after the first 24 hours?

@littledarlins I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that your egg fertilizes.
  • thank you @Hopeful_mom and @MMD1986 .  I have been googling and looking at other forums, and have not seen any stories of late fertilizers working.  But they told me the doc would be willing to go another round, which is great. I know the next round will be better.  I had alot of things that were wrong this time, I was really sick first of all, and also, I had a bad exposure to pesticides for 2 days, and didnt know how much it was effecting me, until the interior of my nose was burned.  Just not a good set up.
And of course, a miracle could happen and this one fertilizes and is healthy! you never now with this stuff.

  • littledarlins sorry about the lack of fertilization. I am very happy for you that they are willing to try again. Will you try next month?  Best of luck and stay healthy and away from nasty stuff. :)  The next time is bound to work better!

So my retrieval yesterday went fine, and they already called this AM w/ the fertilization report:  They retrieved 14 eggs, 11 were mature, 10 fertilized. I am really happy with this.

The plan is still for a fresh Day 5 transfer on Sunday, or a Day 3 transfer on Friday if its not looking like any of them will be blasts. But I have hopes that at least 1 will make it to day 5. It would be amazing if we had a few extras to freeze (and CCS test).

My nurse called and said 2 of my eggs made it to day 5 blastocysts and were frozen.  The other one is behind, and they'll know tomorrow if it makes it or not.  I figure 2 out of 3 eggs retrieved making it that far is pretty good, especially since they said they were high quality.  Now I just need to wait for AF to get on BCPs and get the transfer cycle started.

I'm not sure yet, our consult with our doctor is on 6/15.  We've been thinking we'd like to transfer two all along, but will likely just take the doctor's advice at the meeting.

ETA: I read this today on the Shady Grove website, which has me now leaning a little towards one.  Since I'm 31 and they said what they froze was high quality.

“For patients who are under 37 and produce at least two high quality blastocysts, the rate of pregnancy is about the same whether they transfer one or two blastocysts. However, their chances of having twins are 43% higher if they transfer two.”

  • MMD1986. I have been reading various things and seeing that same point made, that with 2 embryos your chance of twins goes up but not your overall chance of pregnancy. Which I don't really get. How can that be? If any given embryo has a XX% percent chance of sticking, then wouldn't the chance that at least one sticks go up by some amount if you transfer two? Is it because if you lose one, you will probably lose the other?

My husband has two guy friends at work who each have twins.  They each love having twins and think it is a great way to have kids. I mean, of course they're going to say they love their twins, but they've commented on how they play together so well, how they end up being more patient because maybe they have to wait for things (attention, food), etc. So they make it sound great, and DH is pretty pro-twins as a result.

But the medical risks are no joke. I am not tiny (pretty tall, normal-ish weight) and so I was thinking that I might be able to handle twins better than the <100 lb wife of one of the guys, but my doctor said it doesn't work like that, sadly. I also think twins would make it harder to work.

Anyways, now I'm just thinking out loud. We have until the transfer day to decide. If they're Day 3 embryos, we would definitely transfer 2.

  • For what its worth, I was just messing around on the SART site and they have a success rate calculator. You put in your age, height, weight, diagnosis and it gives you your live birth rate for 1 vs. 2 embryos. According to this, the live birth rate does go up a bit from 37% to 49% with 1 vs 2. The risk of multiples goes up from 2% to 33%. I think the reason they have the "Two cycles with one embryo" category is to make you see you are better off implanting the two on different cycles rather than at the same time. Hmmm...

    *Trigger Warning

The health risk of having twins is what scares me. One friend we have was on bed rest in the hospital for a few months with twins, luckily both are now thriving one year olds. Another friend lost one of her twins a few days after birth, which I think is just absolutely devastating. My boss also had twins, and her pregnancy seemed fairly normal towards the end, but I know the beginning was rough because the RE transferred 5 embryos that were all terrible quality and 4 stuck!!! He said it was a hail Mary that one would stick. It's made me a firm believer to be 100% confident before going into it. Especially since the embryos can still split after transfer.
  • MMD1986 yikes, that is all terrifying. I can't believe the RE transferred 5!!

  • MMD1986 hold the phone an RE transferred 5 blasts??  WOW!  Now a days that is unheard of!! how many did she end up having in the end?  thats just amazing!!

daisy222 yea i'm staying a way from that one, i think i did it once before and my odds were awful i believe due to my age, i should stop trying altogether then.

I'm a firm believer in twins but that because i was pregnant with them and already planning a life with them so its hard not to want to go back to it. (TW) due to the loss of it OH is 100% against more then transferring one. More of because of what I went through then anything else.  IF i can make it through a pregnancy with one and have enough embyros after he will consider letting me transfer 2 down the road...unfortunately by that time i'll be really old and it probably wont be wise sigh....

  • @MMD1986 that IS great news!

I heard from my doc that we are going to plan another round of min IVF, and I am so happy he wants to try again. I have one little darlin in the freezer from the last go-round, and this time did not work, and I think it is worth a shot once more to get another embryo.  Time consuming, yes, but better than not giving it my all.

littledarlins Glad you can try again very soon :)

Today we made the decision to test/freeze all (however many we get; they are day 3 right now). This was a hard decision b/c for months we were planning on a fresh transfer, which would have been on Sunday. @MMD1986, you had this same thing happen, right? (the plan switched from fresh to FET after retrieval?) Our plan was to transfer 1 or 2 fresh and then test and freeze the rest, but the doctor really did not want to test some and not all. So it sucks, but I know its best in the end to only transfer tested ones. So July FET is is!

I'm in the mist if that and I'm also going to start EP for my next cycle so its waiting and gearing up for another cycle all at the same time.

  • Hopeful_mom I wish the RE was more clear about this before today (that we couldn't to a fresh transfer and test the rest)! We had talked to him, and the nurse, and the embryology lab, over the past week and they were all ok with this plan! Then today, he is like "actually I don't recommend this". Very frustrating! But it will be for the best in the end.

Waiting for the PGS results and starting a new cycle at the same time is a lot going on! How long does your lab take? Mine says up to 3 weeks :(

Today's update was pretty vague. Half of them look "great" and the other half look less good (only a few cells, or they look fragmented, or something. But all 10 are still in the game, they say! Next update Sunday.

  • daisy222 I have to say that i wouldve wanted to do the same as you.  Originally I asked my RE if during my next cycle i could do a fresh transfer with a frozen embryo.  She said that we could BUT the success rate with frozen during a fresh cycle doesn't have as high of a success rate and a regular FET and since I dont have many to spare at this point i said ok to waiting.  I fond it odd that they weren't clearer with you from the beginning.  I hate the waiting game too!

They say my place usually takes 2 weeks to test however I called and they already started the process so I should be getting the results as some point next week.  I was first super confident that i'd be getting good news but the quality has me concerned along with the amount.  Still hoping ive got normies coming back!

@daisy222 Sorry for the delay and the RE's change of heart, but higher FET success rates (along with PGS testing) are encouraging.

Since I actually got something to test for the first time last cycle, my RE told me that I'd have PGS results within a week.  They biopsied Friday (some in the AM and apparently a couple more in the afternoon), and my Dr. called me with the result the following Monday afternoon (next business day - which also happened to be DH's birthday/the EDD from our first pregnancy), so you never know about the turnaround.  Fingers crossed you have a bunch to test!

Edit:  I'm on night 5 of stims and have my second u/s tomorrow morning (and anticipate ER next Saturday). A little bit kicking myself (not that I could have done a lot about it) because this means I have to go to Santa Monica the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend...ugh.  It's still early but as of Thursday my body appeared to be cooperating.

@littledarlins I'm glad your doctor wants to try again. I hope your next cycle goes Well!

@daisy222 Yes, our plan was to transfer fresh and freeze the rest, no testing due to cost, but the doctor changed it the day of retrieval. It's frustrating but we just have to trust they know what they are talking about.

@Hopeful_mom I hope you get some normals back. You are amazing starting another stims cycle so soon. Good luck!!!!

@artemis618 How did your first US look? Good that your body is cooperating. :)
  • I had 1 day 5 blast that was already hatching transferred yesterday. 4 blasts were frozen yesterday and I'm just waiting to see if the last 2 were good enough quality to freeze today.
