HELP! 25 weeks pregnant with twins and THE RESTAURANT GAVE ME RAW CHICKEN!

edited May 2017 in August 2017 Moms
I went out for lunch and ordered a wrap (ate about half of it) that had blatantly uncooked chicken in it. The pieces of chicken were flat out pink. Of course I am beyond livid (I just recovered from kidney surgery and was forced to consume painkillers for a week, so my kids are already exposed to that!).

But really I'm just super worried about getting like salmonella. I literally puked the entire meal as soon as I stepped in my house but I'm really anxious. It is something I should talk to my doctor about? What should I be looking out for? Can eating raw chicken hurt my kids?

I'm stressed out to the max.

Edit**
Yes, I ate on purpose because I'm that freaking stupid. Obviously I didn't know and obviously I threw it up because I'm panicked. OBVIOUSLY I know stress is not good for my babies and OBVIOUSLY I'm trying to stay calm. I'm a first time mom and this was scary for me but yes, I did it on purpose. Thanks.

  • Gross. I'm sorry that happened. Just call your doctor if you're worried!

Yet, you ate half of it before noticing?

    What @mrsmatt1212 said otherwise.

Just call your doctor to be on the safe side. Isn't that why you pay them?

Not every chicken piece is infected with salmonella. According to federal data around 25% of US chicken is infected. Keep in mind that not all strains of salmonella make people sick. You will know soon enough, usually around between 12 and 72 hours.
  • To be honest, you're probably safe from samonella because it takes quite a bit to overtake your immune system and you should know fairly quickly if it does (hours). Campylobacter is a more common cause of bacterial infection from raw poultry, but can take a few days to develop. Either way, it's just a lot of vomiting and diarrhea to rid the bacteria and the main concern is dehydration during that time. You should absolutely report the incident though because this restaurant clearly needs to be visited by a food inspector. And from now on order beef if you go out, it's hard to get sick from beef.
