How to teach colors?

I know how to teach him the alphabet and numbers, but I am stuck on colors. Outside of holding up construction paper and naming the color, I just don't know. He refers to EVERYTHING as either YEDDOW or PUPLE. He knows there are other colors, but he can't get him to identify them. Help please!

Re: How to teach colors?

  • At daycare, each kid has a colored shape on their things.  You might be able to do something similar at home, but with different places in the house designated with a colored shape-like a blue circle in the bathroom, green triangle in the kitchen, etc..  You could make a scavenger hunt type of game out of it- -  Go find the green triangle!
  • Loading the player...
  • DD learned hers through color books, where each page is a differnt color with different objects on it, as well as a puzzle from Target that has shpes adn each shape is a different color, so I would say find the red traingle and emphasize the color of each shape.  or if she holds up a block, I tell her PURPLe block, I name a color before I say the object.  She isnt eve 2 yet and knows about 5 or 6 colors just from labeling
  • I taught DS his colors by coloring with him. I would pick out the crayons & say the color. Then I would ask him to get me the colors I asked for.
