Baby Aspirin to Prevent Preeclampsia

My OB suggested that, since I had slightly high blood pressure pre-pregnancy, I should start taking 1 81-mg baby aspirin every day. She said this should help prevent preeclampsia. I read online not to start taking it til 12-weeks but she didn't say when to start. I am 10w4d along and I'm nervous about taking aspirin. Has anyone had experience with this?

I've been taking baby aspirin every day starting from technically week 1. Doctor recommended it because I tested positive for having "thick blood" or more prone to blood clots. We were TTC for 18 months and it did the trick! I've been taking 1 a day ever since.

If your nervous about when when to start, just call them and get the go ahead. GL!

If you're nervous, I'd call them and check. But add me to the group who began taking a baby aspirin before week 12. My doctor had me start taking it from the day I got my BFP to try and prevent miscarriage.

+1 for taking Baby Aspirin throughout the entire pregnancy. I have MTHFR and will take it for the entire pregnancy. I started the day after my egg retrieval and have been taking it since then.

If you are hesitant, call your doctor/nurse to confirm it's ok to start now.

When I went for my first appointment, I was already taking a baby aspirin, and the nurse said "Oh, good, you're already taking it. It's best to start taking it before the first trimester ends."

I also went to a pre-conception appointment at an MFM and she said "start taking it immediately when you know you're pregnant."

But if you have a question, ask your doc.

Add me to the group that has been taking Baby Aspirin since before week 12. I started taking it as part of my IVF meds, and was told to just continue until they tell me to stop.

Guys this is making me nervous

My MTHFR came back as heterozygous for C677T, but both the RE and Ob kind of waved it off as nbd. The Ob said I could start a baby aspirin if I wanted to, but didn't give me any instructions. Now it sounds like a lot of you are on a baby aspirin, like your doc started you on it with no problem, and now I don't know what to do...

@whiska I would just call the OB and ask if there is any issue with you taking baby aspirin because of your MTHFR. I'm compound hererozygous and my RE added the aspirin to my protocol after we found that out for my last IVF cycle. My OB was happy I was taking it and said to stay on it. Just call and ask!

@whiska I'm heterozygous factor V and my last RE wanted me on baby aspirin. My MFM kinda poo-pooed it but i stayed on it my whole pregnancy with my twins. My current RE had me start baby aspirin again as soon as we began fertility treatments and I plan to stay on it for this pregnancy. I agree with @beary67 its worth talking with your OB.

Thanks ladies @beary67 @wabash15. I sent a MyChart message to the ob's office expecting a nurse to reply, and the ob wrote back pretty quickly that she doesn't see any evidence that it would help me. Because I don't have a history of RPL and no risk factors for pre-e and no history of clotting issues.

I swear, I've been ttc#1 for two years and if I have another loss because apparently I need to lose two more babies before they'll pursue more testing or believe that something's wrong, I'm going to be pretty pissed.

For those of you with histories and risk factors that necessitate an aspirin regimen, I'm sorry you're dealing with this and I hope the aspirin helps get you through safe and uneventful pregnancies!

@whiska I'm sorry that you did not feel like your OB was responsive to your concerns. I'm so sorry for your previous loss, its a club no one wants to be a part of. I hope your pregnancy is smooth sailing. Hugs

Also a member of the baby aspirin as soon as the test dried club. I have a history of loss and high blood pressure so it's a two birds one stone thing.

Add me to the before week 12 club.. Doc started me on it at week 10 due to severe pre-e with DD.
