My UO is pet related this week, thanks to my neighbors who are terrible pet owners.
I honestly have no respect for people who don't have their dogs/cats on heartworm prevention or get their pets vaccinated(or even fixed for that matter). My neighbors fall under all of these categories. They just found out their dog(who they've had for years) is heartworm positive. They couldn't afford to get her treatment, so they dropped her off in a box in front of animal control in the middle of the night to be put down.
They're talking about getting a new puppy now and I tried to educate them on the importance of getting their next pet tested for heartworms and getting them vaccinated and on heartworm prevention ASAP. They said they can't afford it, yet they're going to get another damn dog. I can't even.
@erinh84 thats so terrible. We adopted our dog as a puppy and several months later foubd out he had heartworm. It is expensive to treat but hes our responsibility and a part of our family. We didnt even consider not doing it. And to top it off they want to get another dog? Ugh.
Pet related UO is that birds are disgusting and should not be pets. Yuck to a bird flying around the house. A friend in high school had a bird they let fly all over and it would land in your hair. Gross!
@erinh84 that's horrible I hate that too! So sad that people view animals as replaceable! To a certain extent I understand not paying for treatments, but I think it depends on the animals age and quality of life after treatment not money. Dh parents just had to put down their beloved German shepherd and it was so hard because they could have spent a couple thousand and give him a few more months to a year, but sometimes it's just not worth it, he was old
My child's friend brags all the time about getting new pets. She has begged me to get whatever the pet of month for them is. I always tell her that's not how things work. You're taking on a big responsibility and it needs to be taken seriously. She said well they just get rid of the old pet when they're tired of it

My unpopular opinion is that I'm 37 weeks pregnant tomorrow and am completely okay with chilling like this. How I feel right now is so much better than first and second trimester and sounds a lot more relaxing than having an infant.

It is. This is my response to everyone who is like "I bet you're ready to get that baby out!" I'm like "actually no, she can chill in here as long as she wants, I already have one of these things and I know they're harder when they're on the outside" haha.
@kyreno11@delujm0 I am actually loving the third trimester now that my ankle sprains are mostly better. First was much much worse, and I never got the energy/libido boost in the second trimester.
@erinh84 Your neighbors are terrible. They should be left in a box in front of Animal Control.
I'm a long-time lurker...introed in the beginning but then fell off due to mobile bumping being annoying and finishing my masters program before baby gets here. Now that I'm done and basically checked out of work I would love to play again, especially since this board is way slow. So my UO: can we have a lurkers thread welcoming those that are lurking?? I've seen it on other boards and it may bring out those who already introed but are unsure where to jump in. From the placenta poll it seems there are others out there who are watching but not interacting....maybe giving them (us) a place to re-intro would liven things up some???

I like this idea. I am all for new people helping keep the board alive but would like to know who you are.
@emichelle86 I would be interested to read it. Hopefully if it was established as a safe place for lurkers it would stay relaxed instead of abrasive. I'm pretty sure I participated for months before I introduced myself, so I try to be a little lenient.
