We did condoms for 10 months prior to TTC bc I was over hormonal BC. I'm open to using them again but recently read somewhere that you're more sensitive after birth and condoms can hurt? Anyone have any experience with that? If that's the case for me, I'll probably do a mini pill or something (assuming BF is working out for me). We would ideally like 2 years or so between kids so not worth getting an IUD in my mind. I just am so terrible at taking the pill - it makes me nervous! Granted the last time I tried I was a sophomore in college... surely I've grown up a little since then?
I guess I should have been more specific with the breastfeeding one and written in the disclaimer that it is NOT a reliable form of birth control! I breastfed both of my kids for a long time (17 mo, 26 mo) and for both had my period back around 6-7 mo. The problem with this method is that you might get your period right away, or you might get it much later, but you ovulate BEFORE you get your first period (in the vast majority of cases, yes, people can have anovulatory cycles). So if you ovulate and you still think you don't have your period yet, you might get pregnant.
Haven't given much thought to it yet...I'm not sure we will have more, maybe 1, but not for a few years. We used condoms before or the very reliable pull out method I haven't been on BC for like 5 or so years...

I've heard mixed things about the Nuvaring, which I love, when it comes to breast feeding. I'll talk to my doctor before I decide. Nuvaring would be my top choice, and the pill will be my other choice.
I guess I might consider an IUD. I *could* change my mind, but I really want to go for #3 if I can get DH on board. After DS, we knew we wanted to try again pretty quickly so we used my cycle/pull out as a preventative until my OB said it was safe to try again (after a C). I honestly wanted to ask if the diaphragm was still a thing but was too embarrassed!
We used condoms because hormonal bc really messed with my system and I don't think I want to go on it again. I'm considering an IUD for convenience and I'm trying to figure out what the best low hormone option is.
I'm deciding between pills and IUD. I'd been taking pills for like 10 years before conceiving and i developed the habit so i never missed and whatnot but the baby would definitely make things more hectic so it would be harder.
I am a horrible pill taker and hated how I felt with the IUD (mirena) so I'm planning on using condoms. DH says we are done but I would like one more so when we decide for sure we can make more permanent decisions.
Will definitely get an IUD again. I think we will end up having a third. I will probably do an IUD after a third too until we feel certain about H getting a vasectomy. The permanence will likely have me skittish for a bit. Not that I want 4 kids, but I don't think I will be ready to have that door closed. As for other options, for years I took the pill and it was fine, but I'm not perfect and it stresses me out. Also have tried nuvaring and the shot. Nuvaring was fine but I like the IUD better, but that shot ruined a whole summer. Holy crap I hated that thing! Although I only had the IUD (mirena) in for about 8 months last time I noticed no issues and it stopped my spotting that I have for 5 days leading up to my period each month when not on hormonal birth control. I also did a weight loss challenge while on it and had no issue losing weight (except for food is good and dieting is hard!) Not sure if it effects breast feeding as that was a crap shoot last time regardless.
@ShadeofGreen816 2 years is a lovely amount of time to have an IUD - that's how long I had mine (bonus, I loved it and I only have like two periods during that time). I recommend one to all women.
Idk what we'll do. I half want a third but I don't want to go through fertility treatments again so we might just wing it.
Not really sure which poll I fall in...during the pregnancy we "decided" hubby would get a vasectomy and that we'd be done. But with this being my first and holding this little baby..I think I want another. I'm just not sure we can handle 4 in the house let alone the 3 we now have. I'll probably get the depo since that's what I've used in the past.
We are undecided. If we have a fourth it will not be for 3 years or so. Condoms suck but when I'm on the mini pill we are so paranoid that we use both. Once I'm on regular birth control that'll be our only method.
We used a period tracker app successfully for the 2 year gap in between these two. Once you figure out the magic days it's easy enough to work around. We didn't mind getting pregnant any time though. Old joke ~ Q: What do you call people who use the rhythm method of birth control? A: Parents!
So today at my appointment, I was distracted and forgot to ask about birth control. I'm not sure I'll make it to my next appointment and I'm assuming I'll go back on the pill. I know I'll have to wait 6-8 weeks to have sex again, but should I have started the pill again before that? I don't want to wait the 6 weeks then have to wait more...

I'm not sure what it's like in the civilian world. In the military hospital we were given a huge bag of condoms and told not to get pregnant when we were discharged. I would assume you're not getting any form of BC until your 6 week check up.

I think I was sent home with the mini pill. It takes a cycle or so for birth control to be effective so if you plan on having sex within a month of being cleared you'll want it earlier.
@Cubslove12 Both times I didn't get my mini pill RX until my 6wk follow-up. They just us to use a back-up method for a cycle after that. DH was lucky if I was even interested at the 6wk mark...

@museic the NuvaRing is combo estrogen and progesterone so it shouldn't be used while breastfeeding bc it will dry you up. While BFing you need a progesterone only method. Which is basically mini pill, Mirena, Depo, and non-hormonal/barrier methods (Copper IUD, condoms, diaphragm etc)

So, not every period tracker app is created equal. Ones that just pretty much assume a 28day cycle/14 day lutal phase are totally useless, and are basically using the rhythm method.
Get thee to a library or bookstore and find Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Fertility Awareness Method is NOT the rhythm method, and does actually work if you use it correctly. And maybe this is the method that you used, but probably not if you are joking about the rhythm method and thinking it's the same thing?
The app that I have used is Fertility Friend, but I know that there are a couple out there that allow you to chart your fertility signs rather than just using a calendar. And, when we are trying to avoid getting pregnant, I actually use a paper chart too, because it makes sense to me that way.
Re: If you would like to have more children or maybe would, what is your birth control plan?
Mini pill for me until we start trying again.

Im likely done reproducing, but last time I tried the min-pill. I was so bad about remembering to take it, so we used condoms.
