Re: Moms of Multiples May Check-In
19+6... 20 weeks tomorrow!!!!!
Rants/Raves/Symptoms?
Rant-- I can't believe I am still waiting to find out the sex of these babies!!!! I just want to know already!!!
Rave-- I am finally feeling normal pregnancy wise, but I have been fighting allergies for the past week which kinda sucks. I guess that could also go in the rant category.
Symptoms-- before these allergies struck I was dealing with horrid heartburn. Par for the course for me with pregnancy. I had it terrible with DD as well.
What are you doing to prepare for babies?
We started on the nursery. DH just has to finish up some trim work and then we will start putting furniture together!
Any Q's?
Is anyone else planning to breastfeed? Have you found any good resources for breastfeeding twins?
Any other good resources for the first year with twins in general?
GTKY: What are you most nervous about regarding your multiples?
Sleep. Or lack thereof.
Hoping my mother will be able to take off ample time to come help us at least with DD. She'll be turning 4 right after the babies are born, so I think having someone to be able to devote time and attention to her will help immensely.
Hoping to also nurse them. I remember with DD sometimes it felt like I was constantly nursing or strapped to the pump. I don't know what it will be like with two. Lord help me!!!
Rants/Raves/Symptoms? My heartburn/reflux seems to be improving a little! Maybe they are dropping down a little bit, but I've also found an empire apple after every meal really helps suppress it. It's been amazing! The backpain and exhaustion are the same.
What are you doing to prepare for babies? I've bought my My Brestfriend twin nursing pillow. I really loved the pillow for my singles, so hoping it helps make nursing two easier! @cmar1006 did you use this pillow for #1 too? We're working on painting babies' room, and since I sold all my gear from DD2, I bought a couple rock n' plays from craigslist and a couple other things. I've also been going through DD's old clothes, but since she was born in Dec, her newborn/0-6 month clothes don't line up with our summer babies.
Any Q's? Did your dr tell you how long they'd let you go if babies don't come on their own? I asked my ob about this and she said they usually induce by 38 weeks, but that's only for the mom's sake. This seems in so much conflict from other things i've read/heard. (that stillbirth risks increase past 38wks)
GTKY: What are you most nervous about regarding your multiples? I'm trying not to get prematurely worried, but there are a couple things....
breastfeeding!! It's never come really super easily, except with my son. I had an overproduction problem with one, was trying to make more milk with another, clogged ducts, mastitis..ugh! I nursed dd1 for 10 months, ds for 14 months and dd2 for about 13 months. It was so, so hard with my girls in the beginning. I'm a little nervous about getting them latching well, and just learning how to tandem nurse. I definitely enjoy bfing one we get the hang of it, so I really want to be successful. The first few weeks of having them home and nursing constantly and being sleep deprived makes me a little nervous!
delivery. I was induced with #1 and #2 and overall hated the whole induction thing. #3 came all on her own and I didn't get any drugs and it was the best birth experience. But I'm still nervous about vaginally delivering two, but equally - if not more! - nervous about a c-section. Or vaginally delivering one then still having to get a c-section - that sounds rough! I've been through major surgery, but the idea of my abdomen being cut open scares me!

The best thing I did the first year for the twins was to get on a consistent schedule. My husband, the nanny and I used an app called BabyConnect to keep track of feedings, diaper changes and sleeping which was really great.
@cmar1006 Breastfeeding the twins was super challenging for me. One of my girls would not latch so I would exclusively pump for her. My other twin did great tho. I ended up renting a heavy duty pump from the hospital instead of purchasing one so I could make the most of my time. The best resources I had were the lactation consultants at the hospital. I hired a doula to help with the girls after they were born and she was really knowledgeable on BF. Also if there is a Mom of Multiples group that you could join in your area they could offer a lot of great pointers as well.
The only book I read to get ready for the twins was named What to do when you're having two. It had good reviews on Amazon. It provided some good info and tips.
