Re: TTGP Grad check-in | 4 may

  • How far along are you? 20 weeks!

When is your next appointment? Tomorrow. Follow up from a/s with midwife and 20 week check.

Cravings/Symptoms? I like most sweet things again :) welcome symptoms include a bump, baby kicks (though they've slowed down over the last two days and it's freaking me out). Unwelcome symptoms are always having to pee and hip pain when I sleep. I wake up at 3:30 religiously and can't get comfortanle until 5:30 :(

    Rants/Raves/Randoms? See above?

Questions? Just kicking, I guess...I didn't expect it to come on so quickly..like, as soon as I felt him kicking I felt him many times per day. Pretty much any time I'd think, "oh, it's been a while" he'd give a nice solid kick. Yesterday and this morning though I barely felt anything and if I did it was weaker. I'm asking my midwife tomorrow, but google says it's normal not to feel strong stuff regularly yet. I think I was just spoiled for the first few days....

pregnancy GTKY: what's your registry philosophy? I would have one especially for completion discounts, but living overseas from anyone else who would use the registry and in a country where baby registries aren't the norm feels sort of pointless...

NBR GTKY: Tell us something about yourself that we don't know! When I was learning how to pronounce R, I had an ear infection which warped the sound I heard and mimicked so I spoke with a what sounded like a posh British accent until I was 4 years old (family members from England who visited were amazed at how real it sounded) lol. I'm sad I relearned the Canadian pronunciation lol

  • How far along are you? 21+6

When is your next appointment?  End of the month.

    Cravings/Symptoms?  Skittles.  Alllllll the skittles.

Rants/Raves/Randoms?  This LO has been kicking up a storm this week, and I'm loving it. DH got to feel him kicking again (second time), which was awesome.  It doesn't get old, at least not at this stage.  Unrelated cuteness:  I was reading before bed last night, and we have a video monitor for DS1.  He was sleeping, and must have been dreaming, but he started calling out, "Da! Da!"  It was the sweetest thing, and we've never heard him talk while sleeping before.

    Questions?

pregnancy GTKY: what's your registry philosophy? Well, I'm a STM.  I started one at Target, mostly for the gift bag and the completion discount.  No one outside of DH and I will know about it, unless someone *really* wants to get us a present.

NBR GTKY: Tell us something about yourself that we don't know!  I took sign language classes for several years when I was a teen, and I really miss doing them.  I've been thinking about joining another class, but with a second kiddo on the way, it will probably be a while.  Also, I'm a voracious reader.  I always have a book or my nook with me.  Working in a lab is great for me, bc I have a lot of down time while waiting for stuff to happen, so I can read if I don't have other stuff I can do while tubes are spinning, etc.

  • @bridge-and-wall the hip pain at night is like nothing I've ever felt. It's awful!

How far along are you? 19w4d

When is your next appointment? June 2nd, just a check-up as far as I know.

Cravings/Symptoms? No cravings really. Symptoms are pretty tame too. I did get sick after Chinese on Saturday; that hasn't happened in a while. My fingers are pretty swollen my wedding rings is getting tight, and yesterday I noticed swelling in my legs. DH said "drink more water." I wanted to punch him because that is almost exclusively what I drink. HE is the one that needs to drink water.

Rants/Raves/Randoms? See above? After some pressure from various sources about finding out the gender and almost giving in, I stayed strong at the A/S and we still don't know.

Questions? What exactly does the kicking and movement feel like? Sometimes I think I feel the baby move or kick but I am not sure yet.

pregnancy GTKY: what's your registry philosophy? I plan on registering at Babies R Us and Amazon. I don't really care for Babies R Us but that is the only store (except for Target) that is around us that has a baby registry. And our Target selection is limited. I would prefer to do an exclusive Amazon registry, more selection and better prices. But members of DH's family don't know how to use their phones, much less purchase something on-line.

NBR GTKY: Tell us something about yourself that we don't know! Growing up I was on a travelling AAU/YBOA basketball team for about 6 years. We won many national championships and were pretty awesome. I got recruited by Princeton to play but didn't think I was smart enough so I didn't go. I do wish I would have chosen another school to play ball for though. I wouldn't be paying all these student loans I currently have...

Also, I have 2 different thumbs; very different. One looks just like my mom's and looks "normal." The other looks just like my dad's and it short and fat. We all that one 'fatty." Fatty can't fit in a lot of places, like normal size bowling balls.

@dogdisnylovr the quickening before the real kicking felt like a wave turning over in my belly? butterflies? hard to describe. Other people have described it as fizzing or bubbles popping, but I didn't feel that so much myself.
The actual kick felt like a quick but certain pressure pushing out from the inside. It wasn't "all over" or "vague" it was in a concentrated small area. someone else might do a better job of explaining it.

Also, this checkin is getting more and more dead as we go on :( do those of you still posting still want to do it? or would you rather stay with the bigger checkins so more people answer questions, etc? I'm good either way. I know there can be a lot of checkins here and we are getting further from our ttgp days, but I don't want to make that call.
ETA: we could also change the day. I think I remember @sugargirl1019 saying she had FOUR checkins to do within the span of Wednesday-Thursday...so if people find that Wed-Thurs are big days, we could change it to Friday, Weekend, Monday, or Tuesday...

  • @BigBadWolf12 Thanks for explaining the feeling. I haven't felt the "butterflies" or anything like that unfortunately. But in the past couple week I have felt a very quick and faint "poke" on the inside. I am assuming that is baby but I am still not 100% sure.

I am good with whatever you all decide to do. I don't have many check-ins and I kind of like them, but if I had multiple it could probably get overwhelming. If we do decide to keep it, my other check-ins are also between Wed-Thurs so I would be good with a different day too.
  • @dogdisnylovr poke...that's a good way to describe it lol. I couldn't think of that word lol :D

  • @dogdisnylovr It really just felt like little flutterings at first, and now.. it feels like I have an alien in my uterus, haha.  I feel little pops and kicks everywhere.  Don't be discouraged, the stronger kicks really didn't start happening until 20w for me.  I only felt it earlier because I knew what to expect this time around.

  • @BigBadWolf12 Totally normal to not feel regular movement at this point.  If you're worried, sit down for a bit and drink something cold or sugary.  Or both!  My DS and this LO both reacted strongly to those, especially the cold drink.

When is your next appointment? In 3 weeks!

    Cravings/Symptoms? Kicks! Fatigue.

Rants/Raves/Randoms? I picked out a nursery bedset, and picked out a paint color that matches! It's a very light coral pink color, and we'll do gold polka dots :)

Questions? @BigBadWolf12 I do have quite a few checkins :) they're pretty repetitive unfortunately. And where did everyone from ttgp go? On the Grad Check in there are SO many of us. But we seemed to all disappear.

pregnancy GTKY: what's your registry philosophy? ? I will register online for the things I want.. as a FTM.. and be prepared to purchase the expensive items myself if no one wants to get them.

  • We could also change the format of the check-in if people are finding they're too repetitive but we don't want to fully can it. Like, instead of "weeks, next appt, cravings and symptoms, we could just do a "what's going on right now for you?" and then a spot for questions and gtky.

    idk. thoughts?

  • Hello ladies!!! I was a ttgp grad that sorta fell off The board with being sick and busy in the first tri. I haven't been checking in or even lurking but I'm hoping to get a little more active so I hope you don't mind me jumping back in. Since I'm just rejoining, I don't have an opinion on the checkin.

I'm happy to see everyone progressing well and starting to feel kicks! @dogdisnylovr  I thought they felt like bubbles, twitches in my stomach or a fish flopping at first.

How far along are you? 20+5 ish

When is your next appointment? I have to have a repeat US probably next week to look at my cervix because they forget to measure it at the AS but otherwise not til next month.

Cravings/Symptoms? All the food!! I've been so hungry lately!

Rants/Raves/Randoms? This pregnancy is kicking my butt way more than DD. Symptoms are sooner, more intense and I'm tired!

    Questions? None!

pregnancy GTKY: what's your registry philosophy? Since I'm a STM I probably won't do one. The only thing we really need is a double stroller and I think my mom wants to get that for us.

NBR GTKY: Tell us something about yourself that we don't know! I used to spend my weekends skydiving before I met DH but I haven't jumped in years!

  • BigBadWolf12  I like the separate check ins because the big one is harder to connect with people (at least for me). We could mix up the questions some but honestly it is nice to see some of the consistent stuff so that way if I have missed seeing info about someone I can have a good refresher about when they are due or what is going on in their world. Thank you for keeping on with this.

  • @BigBadWolf12  My little guy has active days and lazy days.  Just as I start to get worried, he has an active day and I stop freaking out.
@dogdisnylovr  They way I described early movements to DH was that it felt like popcorn was popping in my pelvic area.

RE: Check-ins.  I tend to stick to the TTGP grad threads.  I like that we have our space but maybe changing the questions and or check-in day will help switch things up.

How far along are you? 23+1

When is your next appointment? Basic well check on Friday

Cravings/Symptoms?  Overall, feeling pretty awesome.  I'm still stuck on the fruit popsicles.  I'm almost through the box of 24 my mom bought me.  Oh and OMG....I pee soooo much.  It's ridiculous.

Rants/Raves/Randoms?  I hate that it's still pretty cold here.  It was 45 degrees when I left the house this morning!  Come on mother nature!  It's May!!

    Questions?

pregnancy GTKY: what's your registry philosophy?  I have registries all over the place so I could take advantage of the completion discounts.  The only ones that are public are BBB and Amazon.  We've already purchased the "necessities" (stroller, crib, bassinet, diapers, wipes and some clothes) and my brother is buying us our car seat this week.  Other than that, we'll be happy with whatever our friends decide to buy for us and we'll purchase all the other "stuff" as needed after the shower.

My parents were living in Jakarta, Indonesia for business for a few years and that's where I was born.  They were planning on moving back to Korea before I was born, but I decided to show 2.5 months early so that kind of changed their plans.

    When is your next appointment?

    5/18

    Cravings/Symptoms?

Hmmmm morning sickness has finally let up.  Swelling has begun now lol and a headache that is not feeling nice!

    Rants/Raves/Randoms?

    I've got a cold/allergies so that's crap!

    Questions?

Has anyone had a baby with MSPI? If so are they concerned their second child might have this same condition? I'm desperately trying to put this out of my mind, but DS suffered for over 2 years and I'm a bit trigger shy!

pregnancy GTKY: what's your registry philosophy?

I'm a STM I have a small registry created for the discount and coupons, incase anyone asks if I "need" anything they will be directed there.  We have a need for only a small amount of things.  Howevet FTM if you like register for it.  Someone will get it and if they don't you'll st least have gift cards and  completion discounts for it!

Hmmmm.... I'm not a super interesting person, I guess I'd say, I'm one of the few people who can say they truly like what they do for a living.  I'm an analyst and the numbers game makes me happy

@jillibean1871 I had to look up MSPI and I don't have personal experience with it :/ my bro was lactose intolerant for a few years as a toddler and outgrew it (I never was), but MSPI sounds more extreme than that.... sorry I can't be of more help :(

  • Thanks @BigBadWolf12.... I'm going to see if there are any threads on the topic and then consider creating one if nothing exists.
  • @jillibean0871 probably a good idea...we don't have a huge sample set in this thread :P
