Head down?

I'm currently 30w2d (due July 15th). I had a 3D ultrasound last week and the tech said baby is currently breech. We are re-doing the 3D ultrasound later this week because the umbilical cord was blocking the view to baby's face so we couldn't get any images. So I'll know later this week if she is still head up. When did you find that your baby had turned head down? Could you feel them turn head down or did the doctor/midwife just let you know once they noticed they were head down? I have started the spinning babies routine in preparation for delivery and hopefully to encourage her to flip over. Would love to know what everyone else is experiencing. Thanks!

Re: Head down?

  • I can't remember which thread, but do think this has been discussed in more detail in another thread. It is hard to say I'd it would have been a weekly symptom, randoms, or which one. I struggle to find things on here.

That said, there is still plenty of time for baby to turn. No need to worry yet!

Both of my babies were breech until 33-34 weeks. My last flipped over the 34 week and I remembered it being so painful I thought for sure I was going ton have him then. But I was wrong and shocked to see when I went in for my nst the following week. HTH!
  • Due date buddy! Im sorry this is an issue for you. My baby has been head down at every appointment since 12 weeks. I was amazed and my doctor said some babies wait until the end to turn head down and some find it so comfortable in the beginning that they just stay there.

  • I'm due the 14th and I found out at my appointment today that he is head down.  He had been transverse up until recently.  I feel more movement now that seems to be flips?  The doctor warned that he can keep switching positions for a few weeks so he may not stay head down.
  • At 24 weeks she was transverse. Is that good? Does it mean she will be head down at some point? Transverse isn't breech, is it? My next scan is at 31w.

I was just looking at all the fetal positions last night because the nurse told me mine was oblique and I hadn't heard that term in this context before. Anyway, breech would be if the baby's head were up and feet were down. Transverse is sideways across the uterus. She'll move!
  • Oblique???? I only know that word from work as in the opposite of transparent.

Regardless - babies will move, especially early on. There is really no way to know when they will flip or stop flipping. Your baby can be breech one week and head down the next and vice versa. Nobody can predict the future or tell when (and if) your baby will be head down.
My mom just told me that I was head down, and flipped to breech as she went into labor!
She said she got a version while she was in labor and it was fine.

This is the first I have heard this story though and will definitely have to investigate as baby is still breech at 32+4 over here...

  • At my last GP appointment prior to moving back over to my OB (shared care until 28w) and then at my recent OB appointment, both Dr's said she was down.  Not fully, but heading in that direction.  My OB will still be giving me a scan at 34/35 weeks to make sure.  I'm 32w tomorrow.

i'm 31 weeks and my baby was head down in my last appt  which was a few days ago. I didn’t necessarily feel him flip but I kind of noticed it after it happened. When he was breach my lungs were a lot more crowded and it was impossible to take a good deep breath then suddenly there was a little more space and (TMI) my lady parts felt swollen. My doctor told me that baby will still play around and change positions.

I now feel him leaning towards the left and he gets worked up if I lay on my left side and keeps kicking me till I change position! It’s both funny and annoying.

  • With dd she was head down ready to go at 39 weeks. At 41 when I showed up for my induction she was lateral transverse. I didn't feel a thing that I can remember. So that's good? Turned out she needed a c section :(. This time he is currently transverse, so maybe just maybe he will turn and be head down in time? If not, another c-section for me.
  • I can feel that this one is currently oblique. It's head is near my left hip and legs are pointing toward my right rib. DD lived in this position. I must just have a weird pelvis because DD came out ultimately close to this position too once she moved to the birth canal (sunny side up and head all cock-eyed, not straight on like it should be). Anticipating another 12 hours of back labor..at least I know what I'm in for!
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • They've been telling me he's head down for months. DD was head down the whole time too. Must be comfy for these two.
  • Also twinning on due date! Mines been head down at least since I've been seeing the midwife at 20 weeks. He seems to be super comfortable which works for me since I'm still hardly showing haha. But his size and my weight gain are good so I'm not complaining. Midwife figures my pelvis is wider so he fits in there really well plus I'm on the taller side. On the plus side I still haven't had to buy any maternity clothes lol.

Haha yeah my mom laughs about it lol I know people who are 16 weeks along that look bigger than I do. I'm sure one of these days he'll pop out but so far not yet.
  • Thanks guys...I had another appointment today to attempt to get some 3D images (30w4d) but she is still head up so no go. I think I am just freaking myself out that she will never turn...

This will probably be super obvious to most but just thought I'd post in case helpful to another FTM. Couldn't tell which way the baby was and had a growth scan today for "poor maternal weight gain" (another story entirely). Now makes total sense to me that baby is head down and facing to my left but I couldn't figure it out before. I feel a lot of movement in my left lower pelvis but they're small and jabby/bubbly - that's where his hands are, right in front of his face (along with the cord). The movements up by my left ribs are larger and more like little thunks, but still gentle - that's where his legs are. When they pressed with the probe on my lower uterus it was super uncomfortable but that's because that's where his head is, already in position to go (slow down dude!), and there's not a lot of room around it. I always feel motion toward the bed when lying on my left but rarely on my right, which makes sense now that I know my right side is all his back. My placenta is front and center right under my belly button which is why I never see/feel anything right there - also the spot everyone puts their hand to "feel the baby" which explains why they never do! Sorry to be Captain Obviouspants but hope this helps someone!
  • My little one has been head down (headbutting my cervix - ouch!) since at least my 20 week anatomy scan.
Her bum is now super obvious when I have a Braxton hicks as you can see/ feel what's going on in there.  Her bum (and I think one leg) is up against my right ribs and I'm getting an increasingly lopsided bump! :)
