High hCG levels - Early Pregnancy

Hello all! This is my first post as I've just received my first BFP (using 150mg Clomid). I got a call from my OB nurse about my positive hCG test on Day 21 of my cycle (level was 4084 and progesterone was 16.2). She also rx Prometrium since my progesterone was low compared to hCG. Of course, the hubby and I are thrilled, but Dr. Google has been scaring me (to say the least). My last menstrual period was 3/29/17, and it's only been 3 weeks and my hCG levels are that high.
I had another hCG test done on April 25 and my levels were right above 20,000. Two days later they were above 25,000. I have a 6 week ultrasound scheduled for May 10. I'm just wondering if this is normal progression? Any advise appreciated!

I don't know the answer to this, but you might want to repost on the "symptoms/questions/concerns" thread since more people will check that. It's not a huge deal yet, since the January moms are still trickling in and we don't have too many posts yet, but having threads like this one that better fit under existing threads will start cluttering up the board!

  • @ccm2017 I second what @KatieEl said about the Symptoms Post... BUT I will say that I think that is pretty much in the normal range. The ranges for HcG are insane and a wide range of numbers are considered normal. When I was pregnant with DD I was told my beta HcG was 2.7 times higher than normal at her 13 week scan/test... and she's totally fine  Here's a chart to give you an idea of normal HcG ranges! I think high early is good--healthy sticky bean!

If your nurse felt like it was ok, then it's probably ok.  Try to step away from google.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • I don't think threads with specific questions where you are trying to be seen among all the nausea and fatigue symptoms is clutter. I would much rather have more threads and discussion to choose from than try and read through a bizillion pages of Im tired and feel like puking.

If the nurse wasn't too concerned I would try not to worry. It does seem high for this early. I am very curious as to the explanation. I would call and ask my doc about this if I were you. Just out of sheer curiosities sake.

@emcaulay I'm going to respectfully disagree. Everyone posting new threads for any question/symptom/etc will clutter up the board. Perhaps not right this second when we only have a few posters, but soon enough there will be a lot of moms on here and if everyone is posting unique threads questions will get pushed off the first page and might not get seen. ETA this also leaves more space for people posting threads about **TW** possible losses, which of course should remain separate.  Also, it's likely that someone may have already asked your (general you) same question, so housing them all in one thread solves that problem.  That said, this seems like a better discussion for the board organization thread, feel free to post it there so everyone can weigh in! This is just my $.02, But my gut feeling says: there is a reason way the birth month boards follow this same organization/structure, and it's because it works.

  • @KatieEl I totally disagree. I think you guys would have way more members, discussions, and just down right fun if there were more posts. I think I will probably head back over to babycenter and just hang out there. Way more entertaining and I am still internet friends with moms from my other birth boards there. I was hoping to reach out to some more moms and get involved with a second board but if this is the way they run them here then its just not for me.

Maybe once we find out how many folks we have (it's way early), we can have a thread for the folks in this group to discuss the pros and cons of being organized, or loosey goosey about starting threads? This community is too new to really have "norms" just yet.

^^ wss. I'm used to the organization that comes with being in groups on The Bump. I super love organization lol, but since it is still so early let's play it by ear? See what everyone thinks when we have more members?

I apologize for posting an individual thread about this. I'm new to the community and haven't received many responses to my concern on any of them and thought since the moms were responsive in this group, they'd be response to my post. I'll be sure to post in the symptoms thread.

@ccm2017 not a huge deal and I hope you didn't feel attacked all, I was just trying to point you to a thread you might get more responses. Anyway, hope you'll stick around!

  • I agree that you should call your doctor and ask about your high beta. I've known a few girls going through fertility with me that had to get early ultrasound because of their high beta numbers. I think it can sometimes be a concern of ectopic pregnancy. Good luck, hun
