Fetal weight estimates????

I had my growth scan today 30.1 weeks,  The dr said our daughter was a over achiever, her eat fetal weight today was 4.3 lbs.  is that huge for 30.1.  When she was 25 weeks she was 2.5 lbs.  when I had my son 7 years ago I delivered him at 40.1 and he was 8lbs 11 oz.  I am having a hard time trying to find consistent per tile ranges, is my daughter huge and going to be 11 lbs at delivery so confused please help.  Stressing about this since I am GD.  But my sugars have been good and I have lost 25 pounds during this pregnancy I don't know what more I can do to keep her down.

Re: Fetal weight estimates????

  • Is your doctor worried about baby's size? If the doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be either. Weight estimates can be off by 2 pounds in either direction.

FWIW, your situation sounds nearly identical to mine. All you can do is try your hardest to control your sugars, and make sure you're communicating with your doctor. Nobody here can tell the future.

This.  And fetal weight estimates are based on head circumference and femur length. DS1 was estimated to be 10lbs but was born at 7lbs15oz with a huge head and long skinny legs.

what pp said. towards the end of my first pregnancy my doctor kept saying my daughter was on the bigger side, last estimate was around 3.8 kg  (8.3 pounds) so we expected her to at least grow up to 4 kg by her due date. when she was born she was so tiny 3.2 Kg (7 pounds)

reading up on GD it usually affects the baby's weight, so your baby might be a little bigger but there is no way of knowing for sure until she's here. some people say bigger babies are stronger so they help the mother out more with delivery :) there isn't much you can do about it so try not to worry, specially since your doctor doesn't seem to be.

  • The dr didn't say more then that just that she is an over achiever and that was that I have a repeate scan in 4 weeks due to the GD.  But nothing more was said on the matter, after looking at my report it looks like she is a week and a half ahead in both her head and femur length and 2 weeks ahead in her abdomen circumstances, I am just hoping all of it is it off since they also reported difficult to visualize due to my personal bmi and baby's position.   I don't expect a 6 pound baby but I'd like to try to stay under 9 pounds since I would like a vbac, and I am sure if she is over 9 they won't allow that

Oh, girl, stop worrying. At my ultrasound 2 weeks ago, my baby was measuring 3 weeks ahead, and my doctor isn't worried. (I am going back for another one in 2 weeks to keep an eye on it) A lot of it is genetic as well. My first DS was on the large side, and I was a large baby myself (as well as my H) and we all have big heads, so it's to be expected.

It's my understanding that if the abdomen measurements were disproportionately large, that would be an indicator of uncontrolled GD, and your doctor would want to do something. But if all of the measurements are a little ahead, it's possible you're just a person who makes big babies. Can't fight genetics. It's also still possible the estimates are off. So I'd say you have nothing to worry about right now.
  • I'm team don't stress about it as well- because they can be off by quite a bit and because the stress isn't going to help the situation. Our LO is measuring 2 weeks ahead for abdomen and a week for head and femur. The doctors response "these things are so inaccurate that we don't allow changing a due date based on anything at this point."
  • As long as you're doing what you should be to control your sugars etc what else could you possibly do to make sure you have a smaller baby?
  • If you doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be. And you really shouldn't try anything to 'keep her down'. You should be taking care of yourself and eating a healthy balanced (GD friendly) diet. Don't overthink it.
