Saw no one had posted this yet for the week, so I hope it's cool that I'm doing this!

Check in here if you're working on, or need some encouragement to work on a healthy habit!

1. What healthy habit are you working on?

2. How is it going?

3. What is a small win from last week?

4. GTKY: What do you crave the most when you're trying to eat healthy?

  • @vflux33 Your gif is amazing! I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling! Confession time: about 5 seconds after posting on here about cutting back on drinking, I was like, "welp, now's a great time for a glass if wine".

I justified it to myself becasue it's Monday. Tuesday is a much better day to cut back on wine.

@LoveInDC Yay for your chinese food win! Keep it up! I hope it helps!

@icecubeinthedesert I love to hike! Did you see anything interesting while you were out?

@50Wife Sorry about AF, all of my healthy habits go to hell during AF. That's great that you did low carb all week!

@50Wife I say go for it!

    @Cricket648 I can't judge you ... because I am currently also drinking a glass of wine :p
  • @icecubeinthedesert Activity totally counts even if it's not specifically "working out". My old doc asked me about activity level when I was in college, I told her I walked to class, but that's was it. She was adamant that it counted and told me just to make sure I throw in organized work outs for a routine and keep activity up when I have a slower day. Rooting for you!
@vflux33 Don't downplay progress! Just because your not meeting your goals does not mean you aren't accomplishing anything. You can do it :)
@50Wife Paleo can die in a fire. Just kidding (but seriously). My sister and BIL were paleo for a while and are sending me all these cookbooks and recipe guides. I have my eyes on a few recipes going into next week, but it's hard doing paleo on your own when YH is eating cheetos and pizza lol No shame for slipping on the weekends, what's important is getting back at it. BTW, I've seen more than one diet encourage/allow 2 glasses of wine a week, so I say you're good ;)

@LoveInDC husbands ruin everything! (Along with AF).  But you can eat steak and bacon and eggs and all of that good stuff!!
I'm sure it's an obvious one...but Pinterest. And if you're doing it to eliminate stuff from your diet and not lose weight, there are recipes you can make for bread and stuff. Invest in stuff like almond flour and coconut sugar. I know I made bread using cashew butter when I did it.  It wasn't half bad!
There are a lot of Instagram pages who have blogs for paleo...paleomg is a good one
  • @50Wife Yeah, I'm trying not to OD on eggs straight away because I love them so much. I am allowing whole grains in moderation, but I did order almond flour, coconut sugar, and nutritional yeast off Amazon. I'm not trying to lose weight (in fact, I'm worried I'm going to lose too much) which is why I'm allowing so many cheats. My biggest thing is no more diary and then approaching each meal trying to make it as paleo as possible. It's hard, but I found a recipe for paleo cinnamon roll muffins so that might soften the blow if they turn out halfway decent lol

  • @50Wife, I can see mountains from my shower, lol. It's really a shame that I don't get out more often, but there's so much housework to do on the weekends!

@cricket648, we saw lots of lizards. It must have been mating season, because there was one Lothario running back and forth between two females.

@LoveInDC, I totally agree with how hard it is to be good when DH is eating crap. I currently have a Costco size jar of JellyBelly's sitting in front of me...

  • What about those little tiny single serve ice creams? I am also a huge ice cream craver, and I know if I buy a pint, I will eat the whole thing. But if I only buy the "mini-pint" (shh it really is a pint it's just tiny) then it's not as bad? Am I rationalizing...?

  • 1. What healthy habit are you working on? Exercise more. Either gym or yoga at home.

    2. How is it going? Managing to get to the gym 2x a week, wanting to get it up to 3x.

    3. What is a small win from last week? I got on the scale. It was not a pretty number, but I had been avoiding it for months.

    4. GTKY: What do you crave the most when you're trying to eat healthy? like @amphibious22 it's definitely ice cream all day every day.

    @Cricket648 - Cheese is life.
@vflux33 - I'm glad you're feeling better. Being sick makes healthy choices seem like bad decisions!
@icecubeinthedesert - How have you not eaten all of the jelly bellies!?

    1. What healthy habit are you working on? eating healthy, getting more active. trading fat for muscle

    2. How is it going? it's so hard. i'm def feeling the "getting old" thing. And I'm realizing I stress eat so damn much.

    3. What is a small win from last week? I added a ton of free workout videos on Amazon Prime, and did one last week and one last night.

    4. GTKY: What do you crave the most when you're trying to eat healthy? donuts - cream cheese frosted persian. Every dang morning I crave one soooo hard.

@icecubeinthedesert if you pick out only the jelly belly flavors you like the most.... that's like cutting calories.. right? (don't listen to me, clearly this is why i can't lose weight!)

@pebbledam applause for getting to the gym 2x a week, that's more than me!

@vflux33 I love your idea of an hour walk with YH. Not only does it get you guys active, but you can chat and connect the whole time.

@pebbledam I have the opposite scale problem: I weigh myself too frequently (sometimes right after what I know was a "bad week") and beat myself up over it. I think not weighing myself would be a healthier habit for my mental state!

@AliW220 I feel you on the getting old... Yeah I'm looking forward to this walking thing because of that too. Just having less time to sit and watch TV seems like a good thing. Will let you know how it goes!

@Avrilmai  as I was reading through your breakfast dilemma I'm thinking that I can comment about eggs in a muffin pan...
    Ok so let's scratch that...
overnight oats is a good one! Literally oatmeal, whatever type of milk you like (they have a chocolate almond milk that is BOMB for overnight oats) throw in some extras like chia seeds or even mini chocolate chips if you do regular milk so there's a bit of sweet to it and just let it sit.  I've made a big batch in the past and just scooped from it each day or it's easy enough to throw together each night. You can add fresh fruit or nuts the next morning. Easy peasy and always so good!

  • @AliW220 I'm so glad you mentioned the workouts on Amazon Prime! I never would've thought to look. I'm totally gonna check that out!

@Avrilmai Wooooo on your water intake! That's awesome! I'm currently drinking tea instead of wine, so Day 1 has been successful! Haha

  • @vflux33 - We need a happy medium on the scale.... I know I feel better when I weigh myself once or twice a week, but going 3 months was NOT the right move. Hopefully we can help each other stay sane!
@Avrilmai - I've also made baked/crockpot oatmeal (like what @50Wife said) and protein muffins for weekday breakfasts. Kind bars have quite a bit of sugar, but it's all from fruit, I believe.
@AliW220 - I'm also going to look at workout vids on Amazon Prime!
@Amphibious22 - That's exactly why I got on the scale, too. And I'm with you on the coldstone ice cream. Gimme all that everyday on CD1.

@Avrilmai I added a bunch of short-duration work outs, short and sweet and I'm more likely to do it.
Yoga for weightloss - Erica Vetra and Lindsey Samper are two that I've downloaded but haven't gotten to yet. They have good reviews.
One video I did was from Lumowell... it was all animated (really strange) but was high intensity and short, I actually really liked the pace. The other one I've done was Ballet Fitness, but I wasn't a fan of it.

@Amphibious22 It's starting to get too hot to hike where I live too, which sucks. Looking at a looong summer. Last year we hard to drive a few counties northwest just for a decent day hike and spending more time in the car than on the actual hike to avoid the heat gets old.

@pebbledam Yes--we should! I will have one day eating off diet and weigh myself and be like "see? you gained half a pound!" and it's, like, too much and doesn't really motivate me at this point. I need a warning sign on my scale.
  • 1. What healthy habit are you working on? working out more (3-4 times per week), eating better

    2. How is it going? Horribly! I just had physio last night, and have a strained tendon that goes from my ankle to my big toe. I am supposed to rest it completely, so am not going to get back to the gym for at least another week or so. Plus, DH cooks and he just went out of town for the week. I hate cooking for one, so I tend to grab take out a bit too often

    3. What is a small win from last week? We did pretty well with food, lots of healthy dinners and leftovers. No gym though, with my ankle all messed up :(

    4. GTKY: What do you crave the most when you're trying to eat healthy? Chocolate. I'm usually pretty good at getting dark chocolate and having a reasonable portion

Will be back to post comments later! Just realized I was super late this week, and skipped last week completely :(
  • Today my water bottle sprung a leak at the bottom, forcing me to chug the rest of the water right then (my students thought I was crazy). Touche universe.

@Sailing_Mama I'm sorry to hear that your ankle is giving you trouble! That's awful! Hopefully you recover quickly. I also find it hard to motivate myself to cook for one.

@purplg8r Yaaaaasss to popcorn! There's a popcorn and candy shop like 5 minutes away from my house, and they have the best flavored popcorn. They're dangerous. Also, way to go on that half marathon! I'm nowhere near doing one of those anytime soon!

  • @50Wife @Amphibious22 @pebbledam you've all convinced me, I'm going to try doing some overnight oats for next week. gives me an excuse to play on pinterest.  ;)

@AliW220 an animated workout sounds so strange

@Sailing_Mama sorry to hear about the ankle. I struggle with meals for one as well, seems pointless to dirty dishes just for me. when my DH worked nights I had some strange dinners.

@purplg8r so glad you're joining us! like @Cricket648 I love popcorn. Have you tried Skinny Pop? I've become obsessed, but it's like 39cal in a cup, so I don't feel bad eating something with no real nutritional value. Also, I would say doing a half marathon with almost no training is a big win!

@Avrilmai let us know if you find a good combo!!
A tip from me... I like to add a little extra milk in the morning bc I like my oats just a little runny and that shit really gets absorbed overnight.
And check out different milks, around the holidays, they put out dairy free nog that I love to use in my oats.

@Cricket648 hey that's one way to make sure you get your water in!
This is what I'm picturing though

  • AliW220AliW220 member
@purplg8r whaaaaa???? it's a donut. the dough is swirled with cinnamon, and then it's frosted. it's heaven.

@Avrilmai - the animation was really weird at first, but I also like it. I have so much negative self talk that I beat myself up with "I could do this video a million times and never look as good as her" and other BS. Can't do that with a non-real person.

  • @Avrilmai I have tried it but it's not my fav. I like the full flavored stuff!  I have a local popcorn store & my fav is ranch mixed with cheddar BBQ & then I love sour cream & onion too

@AliW220 ok I need to find that wonderfulness!
  • @Avrilmai I like Skinny Pop, but like @purplg8r what I really like is the full flavor stuff. The local shop by me makes a delicious white cheddar jalapeño flavor.

    @50Wife I didn't even think of that! I'm dying!
