Re: TTTC Checkin 04/26/2017

  • Congrats to all the BFP's and graduates :)  Hugs to anyone who needs one.

    AFM: CD6.....one more day of Letrozole to go.  I actually haven't felt too tired this time around which is great.  Follicle check next week Tuesday.  Mainly just a lot of waiting right now.

    QOTW:  I actually have no idea what is for dinner tonight.  Usually DH golfs on Wednesdays so I end up eating either left overs or something light...but he may get rained out tonight.  If that happens, we will probably be having pasties.  I actually may still have a pastie anyways if he golfs.  Mmmmmmmmmm, pasties.

  • @hoffmanr7 FX for lovely follies!

    I had my RE appointment yesterday and he thinks (there's definitely somethig there) I have a small fibroid on the top of my uterus that could be seen in my 3D u/s. he wants to do surgery to see what's going on and to remove it if he can. He also wants to check my tubes even though my HSG was clear just in case. I've never had surgery before so I'm a bit nervous but won't be having it done until June since I'm already at the end of this cycle. Anyone else have this done? Any advice/suggestions?

    it is going to be a really warm nice day where I live so we are having pizza on the grill! I've never made pizza on the grill before so I'm hoping that it goes well.

    @hoffmanr7 what is a pastie?

    Sorry in advance for a long post ladies.....
    I'm probably going to be taking a bump break for a little while since we're probably taking a few cycles off. I had my RE appt. Yesterday which went exactly how I figured it would, he is recommending either IUI or IVF. I broke down bawling in his office and he kept telling me not to cry which of course only made it worse, I was a mess. DH and I talked and decided we don't think spending money on IUI is really worth it since he said it's only an 8% chance of conception whereas IVF is 50% so we're waiting on a call from the financial counselor to get numbers and pricing to see what our plan is. I'm feeling much better since most of my worry and frustration was coming from the fact that dh made it seem like he didn't want to do iui or ivf and he is the one who said yesterday we would look into it and do what we need to. I'm just waiting on AF now which I'm sure is imminent because I've been bawling all weekend. Sorry again for the long post.

  • I'm new here - how does the check-in work?

    For dinner - it's raining so grilling is out of the picture. Probably trying the new baked hummus chicken pinterest recipe so it could be takeout depending on how it turns out haha

  • I have about two weeks left on my 1500mg of Metformin. After that they will up me to 2000mg and order a progesterone challange. I'm nervous but a little excited.

    This week is National Infertility Awareness week and I have been blowing up my facebook with memes and statistics. I haven't come  right out to say we are trying, but I am not hiding the fact that I fall into those statictis. Family and friends have been more supportive than I first thought.

    We started Whole30 and I am amazed at how much better I feel! I saw a chiropractor who also does acupuncture. He takes a very whole body approach. I initially went for my chronic complex migraines but he seems to think it could help with the PCOS too! He ordered some xrays which I have to take over to him and he will make a treatment plan from there.

    Not sure what is for dinner tonight, I'll be stalki g for ideas lol! Last night we made awesome whole 30 sloppy joes!

  • @kaitlink33 A pastie is only the most delicious thing on the planet (in my opinion).  There are different ways to make it, but basically it is some form of meat (I use cubed round steak), potatoes and onion wrapped up in a crust.  It's kind of like a hand held meat pie and it is my favorite thing on the planet.

    @eranvo27 Thank you for the reminder!  I had checked to see when National Infertility Week was about a month ago and then completely forgot!!

  • @hoffmanr7 pasties sound delicious! I will definitely be searching Pinterest for some recipes!

    @MooFish2364 sorry it looks like you will need surgery, but hopefully it will fix the problem for you! Gilled pizza sounds yummy!!

    @kaitlink33  I am sorry you are having a hard time right now, but I am glad that your DH is more open to the idea of IVF.  Take the time you need. We will be here when you're ready  <3

    @msstephanielynn I believe one of the stickied posts on the main page explains how to be added to the check in. There are just some questions to respond to (how long have you been TTC, etc). Then each week we check in and just talk about how things are going. Welcome!

    @eranvo27 good for you for sharing on Facebook! I only have like 2 people IRL who know we are TTC let along having TTTC. We haven't told anyone in our family, just a close friend and coworker of mine (who both went through or are going though IF themselves). I admire people who can be open and honest about it.

    Question for the group: how open are you about IF IRL?

    I feel like the longer this goes on, we are going to have to start sharing with people. If we get to the point where we have to do IVF, I don't know how I can keep that from my family and close friends.

    Anyway, AFM I am still WTO. CD 27 for me. I had 4 days of positive or almost positive OPKs and no temp shift. Today's was negative but still pretty dark, so I am hoping today is O day. I don't know why I had so many positives, I usually only have 1 (one cycle I had 2). So color me confused. Especially if my temp still doesn't go up tomorrow.

    QOTW: I took some homemade pasta sauce out of the freezer, so we are having that for dinner! My ambition to cook during the work week is very low, so I try to stock up the freezer with some stuff that is easy.
  • Congrats @MJDsquared! That is awesome!

    And it has been great to see the BFPs of others such as @PoeMasque

    I've been away for a while (well comparatively speaking). My husband actually carried out an intervention of sorts and blocked a bunch of infertility websites (right now I'm on a computer at work). It's been nice, actually - I really needed the emotional break.

    I've gotten sick of this journey and also sick of the emotional ups and downs and my own obsession with this situation that is not in my control.  I'm (somewhat) comfortably numb at the moment.

    Hope everyone is doing ok.

  • @Kim41313 I am not very brave I'm afraid. I hide behind the fact that I am not the only one so I can post things somewhat that are somewhat vague and be slightly anonymous. IRL there are 5 people besides SO and I that know we are trying and the issues we face. One of them is my cousin's wife who tried for 7 years before IVF took. I guess I just feel that this week gives me an excuse to be more "vocal" about it because I can pass it off as being NIFW.

  • We had out 3rd IUI today - FX this is the one! I stayed home all day, because I've been so sore/tender and hormonal. I'm trying to give myself more of a break, the longer this goes on.

    QOTW: Chicken teriyaki. Yum yum.

    @hoffmanr7 - I am so impressed that you make your own pasties! Holy! I actually lived in the U.K. for a bit, and used to buy and eat them all the time. They are delicious. Now, the closest we get to them is buying bags of frozen Jamaican patties and heating them up. I love.

    @MooFish2364 - I've had surgery before, though not on my uterus. Just take it really easy, give yourself lots of time to recover & heal. I assume this will be laparoscopic? FX!

    @kaitlink33 - I love long posts. I wasn't surprised to see your update - I know you've been dreading that and thinking this was going to be the next steps - but I am really glad it sounds like you and your DH had a good conversation when you got to this point, and that you are now exploring all these other options.

    @Kim41313 - I am not very open about IF IRL, but I am pretty introverted. My closest friends (like 3-4 people) and my sisters know. Other than that, I keep it to myself. But we didn't even post a single wedding photo to Facebook (to give you an idea of the kind of person I am - a very private one.)

    @MJDsquared - CONGRATULATIONS! Great news!! xoxo

    @notamyrtle - ha re: husband intervention. My H calls this board "Trip-T-C", as in: "Are you on tripteesee again?" Glad you are feeling comfortably numb. (That is actually my favourite Pink Floyd song.)

  • Congrats to all the BFPs :) Its been a good week for a few of you!

    On CD37. I'm just waiting for my 2nd RE appt in 2.5 weeks at the moment. Other than that I've had weird spotting/light bleeding for 5 days now but I don't think I've ovulated so no idea what's going on there.
    I have taken 2 HPTs just in case (both BFNs) and I'll take another on Saturday too just to be sure, but I'm not expecting anything.

    QOTW:  What's for dinner tonight?
    Cheat night tonight :D Maccas for dinner and Krispy Kremes for dessert!

    @Kim41313 - Your question: At first I didn't really tell anyone because I was ashamed and embarrassed but I have started being more open. Everyone around me knows how badly I've wanted kids for years and now that we're married people have been asking when we'll start. So I found it's easier to be honest so people don't ask as often.

  • @kaitlink33 so sorry your appointment was so hard. The harder I try not to cry the harder I do. Especially if someone tells me not to. I hope you and your DH are able to make a decision moving forward that you are both happy with.

    @msstephanielynn welcome!

    @eranvo27 I haven't told anyone publicaly about our struggles. I think about being open about it but to be honest we don't share many personal things at all on social media. Due to the nature of my DH's job he doesn't even have social media as he would have to be super cautious as to what he posts.

    @hoffmanr7 pasties are huge in my hometown! We even made them in high school. So yummy.

    @Kim41313 thanks. Our mom's and brothers are the only ones who know about our fertility struggles. There was a bit of shame there in the beginning that made me not want to tell anyone. But now I am more comfortable with it - we are just naturally kinda private people.

    @MJDsquared yay! Congratulations!

    @notamyrtle my DH threatened the same thing. He thinks I sit and obsess over IF too much sometimes. Well mostly in the past - not so much now.

    @funkykey FX for your IUI. Yes, my surgery will be laparoscopic. I've never had any type of surgery other than a D&C so I'm a bit nervous.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Kim41313 and @kaitlink33 It's actually pretty easy.  The dough is basically a simple crust recipe.  Mine that I do is mix 2 c. flour with 1 tsp salt.  Then cut in 3/4 c of crisco (I use butter flavored crisco).  Once that is cut in you add 4 TBS of cold water.  Work the dough into a ball and cut into two (one batch is enough for 2 pasties).  Roll the dough out into an oval.  Then on one side of the dough, you put on about a handful of thinly sliced potatoes, about a handful of cubed meat (again I use roundsteak), about a handful of onion, and top it with a bit of butter and some salt and pepper.  Then just fold the dough over and roll the sides.  It will look like a half circle (ish).  Bake at 350 for an hour.

    @funkykey Pasties are a main staple on my mom's side of the family.  My grandfather claims the recipe was brought by our family straight from Cornwall England.  He taught my mother how to make them, and I've been helping my mom make them since I was little.  FX for you IUI!  I hope this is the one!!

    @MJDsquared Congrats on your BFP!!!!!

    @hoffmanr7 thanks for the recipe! It sounds amazing

  • @kaitlink33 - logic schmogic. I want kids way more than my DH, and early on in our relationship, I remember him saying: "there's no logical reason for us to have children" citing the expense, the time, the commitment, and arguing that we should be both more self-interested and selfless (no kids but donate more to charity).

    I was like: "There's no logical reason for me to love you, either. Mating and the desire for young is a biological impulse. I'm a human but I'm also an animal. I'm not going to approach this like a robot." I didn't even get in to the logic of evolution, which is a whole 'nother argument.

    Sometimes I think there's this pressure for women not to want to have children. Like, so many people will make comments like: "Not being able to have kids isn't the worst thing." And I'm always like: "Why are you expecting me to disassociate myself from what is a healthy biological instinct?" That's part of why IF is so painful, I think - we're grappling with something deeply instinctive.

    We watched the new Planet Earth series the other night, and I felt like someone could make a nature video of me, complete with commentary by David Attenborough. "The adult female's drive to procreate is so strong, she will go in for daily bloodwork and ultrasounds at this fertility clinic."

    I mean, obviously, we shouldn't give in to all our impulses, but it's no fun to deny them all the time, either. ;)
  • @funkykey omg yes!! That is definitely my biggest frustration of them all. I always say that I can't even do what my body was made to do (bear children) and it's so upsetting and it just gets to me. Also, I love your animal planet description of females going through IF. Lol I feel like that's absolutely spot on. I was just telling DH something similar the other day when we were debating IVF. I said that if I didn't want children so damn badly I wouldn't drive 2.5 hours for every appointment and get a camera shoved up my hooha and take meds and give myself shots and put myself through all of this pain and emotional crap.

  • Haha, exactly.

    I studied the Cyborg Manifesto in college, and I'm surprised at how much I've returned to those themes with IF. It's a long (!) time ago now, but I keep thinking - I wear glasses to see, I use tools to cook and clean and clothe myself - why is it that we see using reproductive technology as so different from other technologies? Like, actually - if I want to look at this somewhat "logically", why are so many people more judgmental of using drugs to reproduce than taking tylenol to relieve pain? Is it because it's sexual and we've made sex such a stigmatized process? As opposed to seeing it as just another function of our bodies?

    ... Maybe that is too much of an insight into my thought process about this. It might also be why my H is so agreeable with everything now, like: "I dunno honey. You've just said a lot of words and it sounds like you've thought about this enough for both of us."

    To which I reply, in my best British man voice: "The adult male follows the adult female to the clinic after she does a special dance and calls of persuasion."
  • @funkykey if you make that documentary, I'd totally watch it! Hilarious!
    @hoffmanr7 thanks for sharing the recipe - I'm a sucker for good pasties.

    I have an appointment with a new RE Monday, and I'm so over it already. Not fair to them, I know, but I am aware my insurance covers nothing. I don't need 2x reminder calls and an email. I guess they're up front about costs, at least?

    @funkykey  Love it.

    @hoffmanr7  Mmmm sounds delicious.  Someone from work used to bring me in Portuguese meat pies and I loved eating them with a little tobasco.

    @Kim41313  Nobody knows about our struggles except for just a couple of friends.  No one in our families know.  We are pretty private people.  Would love to have the support from my mother but she is just not that type!

    @MJDsquared  Huge congrats!!!

  • QOTW: Chicken and dumplings for dinner! It's rainy and gross here and nothing is better than a little comfort food in this weather.

    After the third beta my RE decided I needed to come in for an U/S. That was on Thursday and we measured in at 5w3d and had a yolk sack. Thankfully it looks like everything is going well.

     So it looks like I'll be moving on. But I'm definitely going to lurking occasionally to see how everyone is. Thank you all for being so wonderful and FX for many BFP's in the future.
  • Hey ladies! A big congrats to @greenange and @MJDsquared! Hopefully there'll be a lot more BFPs in May!

    @funkykey you make me laugh! Thanks for always cheering up this board :)

    Im not really sure what's going on with me at the moment, I'm cd14 of our third IUI cycle and on cd12 my lining was measuring 11mm and I had a 21 & 20 on my left and an 18 on my right. But my baseline showed a 12mm cyst on each ovary so we were thinking either the 21 or 20 on the left was what we're shooting for. They sent me home to do OPKs and call when positive...I've done two tests a day since and everything is negative. I thought for sure we'd have a positive by now. So who knows, hopefully tomorrow!

    QOTW: We had a sort of cheat day...McCormick steak seasoned sausages with Muscle Mac (mac n' cheese with extra protein, but very yummy). No veggie :neutral:

    AFM, we had our 3rd FET on Thursday and now I am just stuck in TWW hell.  I was doing really well staying zen over the weekend but all the sudden I am struggling with the what if this doesn't work again.  Ugh, this process is tough.  I plan to POAS starting Tuesday and our Beta is on Saturday.

    QOTW: We had beef stroganoff tonight which was nice because today was cold and rain but I should have been a little healthier.

  • @Worldtravler0522 - the TWW is hell. Take it easy!

    I have days where I'm super zen, and then days where I'm totally obsessive. I keep trying to throw myself into other (super boring) things, if only so I forget about IF for like 5 minutes. It's so hard!
