Infertility

Introduction Time! Finally time to get down to business!

Good morning All.

I'm Amelia a soon to be 29 year old  and here is my fertility story.

Soooo, i knew before I married my DH that we would have issues having children so being here isn't a surprise but the path here was SOOO needlessly frustrating and infuriating. He had rescinded testicles and one was descended at 5 years old and the other at 6. This is really really really late and he has been followed by a urologist since then. Needless to say, he makes some little guys but not a lot (<2million). The frustrating thing was after 3 years of being married we decided we wanted to start trying. Out came my IUD and then started my problems. My periods were all over the place and my ob/gyn diagnosed me with PCOS.

The frustrating thing was even with my husband's medial record and my PCOS generated irregular cycles the OB/GYN wouldn't refer us to a RE until 1 year as we were young (both 27 at the time) and you know it might just happen. Finally we are to the point where we have made it through the RE work up (which confirmed PCOS for me and low sperm for me) and were told we have the choice of IVF or natural cycle IVF. We have decided to start with natural cycle IVF and then will move to IVF if we aren't successful after 2-3 natural cycle IVFs.

On top of this we aren't really telling our friends or family (just my mom) because they think we are "too young" to have fertility problems and are "just over reacting" and that we "just aren't trying hard enough". I am really looking forward to the support from this group through this process. My last few weeks of lurking have amazed me with all you're camaraderie.

Super curious too, who else here has done a natural cycle IVF. what was your experience?

  • Welcome to the board! I'm so sorry that you and you DH are dealing with this, I haven't done a natural IVF cycle so I can't give you any experiences with that, but I hope you find the support you're looking for here!

  • Welcome, @athikergirl! I'm sorry that your journey has been frustrating, but I'm glad you're getting the chance to move forward. I also have not done a natural cycle IVF, but I hope you have a good experience!
  • Welcome @athikergirl~ I'm just starting the RE process myself so I can understand the frustrations a little bit. I don't have any experience or knowledge with IVF, but I wanted to comment on your choice to keep from telling anyone; hubby and I aren't really telling anyone either. (My mom said if it had  been 3 months and no success something must be wrong with one or both of us  :|.) I'm here if you need any support or someone to talk to!
  • Welcome! We haven't talked to our families, either.  Sone if them must suspect something may be going on, bc they do know we weren't necessarily waiting...  its tough (((hugs)))  we have severe MFI and ivf/icsi is pretty much our only shot. :/
  • I also am just starting the RE process and haven't told anybody except a close friend that has been through something somewhat similar. This whole process has been kind of a whirlwind of emotions. XF for your IVF journey and we are behind you!
  • welcome
it's sad but it really seems that women and men of all ages face infertility although older people do have a higher tendency to deal with infertility issues it does not mean however that everyone is protected from it. as obviously we here are not.
    good luck!

I have never had Natural Cycle IVF. Just had my first IUI today.I am 28 and I can understand your frustrations with family. I've heard everything from "have more sex!" to "Maybe God doesn't want you to have children" to "If you just relax, it will happen." "Maybe you're just stressing about it too much." EVEN AFTER I TOLD THEM THAT WE BOTH HAD MEDICAL ISSUES PREVENTING US FROM NORMAL FERTILITY. Believe me, I feel your pain in that regard. I really wish you the best. This board has been a great, supportive group of ladies.
