Trouble TTC

Donor Sperm?

Hi everyone!  Sorry I have been away for so long - I think I am mentally ready to be more active here again.

Quick background for anyone new - DH and I are both 32 and have been TTC for 6 years.   DH has a chromosomal problem called a balanced translocation - two of his chromosomes are broken and switched. We went through two egg retrievals and ended up with 2 healthy embryos.  We transferred one, which failed.

After much debate, DH and I decided, instead of transferring the other embryo now, we want to try IUI with donor sperm.  Ive been through IUIs before, but never with donor sperm, so I was hoping to hear what the process for getting it is like from someone who has been through it before.  We want to do it this summer (I have to lose a few pounds to get back within the guidelines of the clinic I go to), but I want to make sure I have everything ready!

TTC since 2011

Re: Donor Sperm?

  • Hi @starlitfae - I'm so sorry for your struggles and failed transfer. :( Ugh.

I don't have experience with donor sperm, but wanted to point you in another direction - you might have more luck finding someone with this experience on the Infertility board. I'm in the IUI thread right now, and at least one of the women is doing her IUI with donor sperm this month.

There's also a board for Third-Party Reproduction, but it doesn't look like it's as active as the IF board:

    Good luck!

Seattle Sperm Bank is $635 plus shipping. It's $50 to become a member for 3 months. This gives you access to their baby photos, medical records (as well as family medical history), audio review, personal statement from donor, and Keirsey Test.  They also do a donor of the month where you get two vials for the price of one if you choose that donor. You search through the profiles until you find the one you want and "check out". From there you get an email giving you directions from there. They can do overnight shipping but it costs extra. They can ship it directly to your RE which I think is easier, from there you would pay your doctor the storage pricing if they have any. Mine doesn't unless its a "long term" storage.
  • Welcome back, @starlitfae. I'm sorry to hear about your continuing struggles. You're always welcome back here. Good luck!
