Conflicting EDDs

Hi all. According to my LMP I would be due at the beginning of September. Pee stick and ultrasound put me at October 8. My first pregnancy I knew my ovulation date, and the ultrasound was perfectly accurate. This time around is different since we were on the "whatever happens, happens" plan so I wasn't tracking my ovulation.  Plus I was still breastfeeding my babe.  (She'll be 1 on Sunday!). Just wondering if anyone has stories like this. I'm feeling slightly further ahead than the ultrasound put me, but not as far as LMP. I do trust the ultrasound, but, as I'm sure we all do, I want to know and be prepared for the day baby will be born! Thanks.

Re: Conflicting EDDs

  • Hi there, looks like you may be new to our board. Please stop by our "Read This First Thread" and introduce yourself in the introductions thread.

To answer your question, an EDD can vary greatly. You can generally have your LO two weeks before your EDD or Two weeks after (and anywhere around that!). I have a short cycle, which puts me due further in October. However, my ultrasounds put me earlier in the middle of October. Your baby could be ahead of the curve and growing slightly faster. You will likely know when you are further along.

  • My last pregnancy was 5 weeks off of my last period. I went in for what should have been my 9 week ultrasound and they couldn't see my baby. I went in 4 weeks later for another ultrasound and there she was. I had always had regular periods and could count on them so it threw me off! So instead of a March baby I got an April baby. As long as baby is healthy and growing that's all that matters.  calculations can be wrong.
  • Since you weren't tracking ovulation, I'd definitely go with the ultrasound date rather than your LMP.  It sounds like you ovulated late (BFing and all kinds of other factors can mess with cycles!).   I think dating ultrasounds are pretty accurate.  I'd only question the US dating if you were positive of your O date.

  • My cycles have always been irregular so I always have to go with the dating ultrasound.  Dd1 we were pretty sure when it happened (literally on the wedding night/first time we were intimate) and I went into labor with DD2 on her due date (she missed being born on he due date by 4 hours).  This one I think th U/s might be a day off (This is exceedingly weird, but I always get an ocular migraine at 8 w + 2 and literally no other time ever).  But in my experience, the ultrasound is usually accurate.

From a practical perspective, tell everyone the later date so they don't bug you about where is baby...but maybe have at least the essentials around by the first date (bag packed, car seat installed etc.) Just in case.
