HSG Test Next Week after ectopic

Ladies,
I had an ectopic pregnancy last September that was treated with methotrexate at about 7 weeks. Next Monday I'm finally going in the the HSG test to see if my tubes are blocked. I'm freaking out a bit - if it is blocked, my OB said I'd have to see a fertility specialist about options, but that most people go for IVF instead of surgery. I'm not sure I'm up for either option, and while I know I shouldn't be worrying about it until the test is done, bc it could be OK...I can't help it! I dont know much about IVF but it seems like a stressful journey, and I dont know where to begin any research. I should add I already have the most wonderful 2 year old daughter, we've truly been blessed with her, my pregnancy was easy (besides gd) and she is the perfect kid! I guess Im just afraid of ruining our happy family of 3 by something going wrong either IVF or surgery. Guess I'm just looking for any advice or validation of my feelings. My husband is the type not to worry about anything until we know for sure...and I'm the complete opposite, freaking out over every possible outcome!

hi, firstly i am really sorry that You are here, and fx for a good hsg result.
I had an ectopic 2 years back, got hsg done, it was a bilateral block. That been said- there are a lot of false positives and false negatives in this test. Sometimes, the tubes go into spasm just because of the dye, doctor says its blocked and they are actually open. And there have been a lot of stories when women were able to conceive naturally after the test, it's believed that the test kind of clears the tubes in case of minor problems.
i did a laparoscopy after, they said they cleared the tubes and it was a go!!! 8 months no luck, we went for iui, no luck again. I am now waiting for my first fet.
thats my story, just relax and go for the test, and take it from there, worrying right now is not going to help.
How old are you? Your SO?? His SA?

Sorry about your ectopic OP. :( I understand you being scared and worrying about the worst case scenario right now, but try to relax. MiL has a saying, "don't borrow trouble." ;) for all you now, you could get your HSG and they could be all clear! As hard as it is, try to take it one step at a time.

DH and I have no kids and we WERE told we had to go straight to ivf/icsi. :/ It felt impossibly devastating at the time. That was September/October 2016. And now that we are perhaps getting closer to it, I just want to get on with it already! No word of a lie, now the whole prospect seems like nbd. More like a huge pita, and a boatload of cash! Lol :s

GL to you next Monday and fx for the all clear! :D

• Thanks ladies...it's all I can think about...next week can't come soon enough! I am going to be 33 in September, SO in October. I think I meed to stay off google and just wait for the test and discussions with the doctor they refer me too, if needed.
• @sunshi500 I'm very sorry for your loss. Your story sounds similar to mine, I have a 2 year old and had an ectopic when we tried for number 2. I had the hsg done (which isn't a big deal i promise) and was told my tube were clear. we tried again with no luck, then moved onto iui x 3 with no luck. I was also diagnosed with pcos and endometriosis which I wasn't expecting at all. I just finished my egg retrieval and am looking at an FET in may. I just want to say try not to worry until there's actually something to worry about. Also, ivf isn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. Fx you get good news from your hsg and get pregnant soon.

• I'm sorry for your loss....I had an ectopic this time last year and never did my RE tell me I would have to do IVF if my tube was still blocked, he said we could monitor cycles and do IUI when i was ovulating off the clear side.
**trigger warning** I am also lucky to have a 6 year old that was no problem conceiving so we know I can get pregnant and carry to term. So maybe that's why there was no urgency for me to go the IVF route immediately.

my office also told me to take ibuprofen prior to HSG and it really was worse in my head than the actual procedure.

• Sending hugs, so sorry for your loss. I'd do the HSG just to get some answers, it can be emotional but nice to know your options.

*TW previous child and pregnancy*

I have a 3 year old that was conceived with no issue just like you. We don't know why I ended up with a blocked tube but after a year of trying for baby 2, we did the HSG and no doubt one of my tubes was blocked. You can go different routes, according to my RE. We tried clomid to really amp up the eggs, and they can monitor (through ultrasound) to see if the eggs are on the "good" side, and you can just give it a good old fashioned try that way ;) We did this for 3 months, for whatever reason my "good" side never had the eggs, no clue why, and we were just getting impatient.

At this time we looked at either surgery or IVF. I was just so over the process so I know it's personal but we opted to do IVF. Mainly because IF we want a third baby, we hoped to get frozen embryos and have a much easier time. I know it's different for everyone but it did work right away and I'm pregnant with 4 spare embryos frozen.

I know how overwhelming it all can be, I felt so helpless until we finally picked a plan. Feel free to message me at all, happy to answer other questions at all :)
