Recording memories/baby books

Has anyone given much thought about what baby book to get or how to record memories of your baby?

I've done a little bit of research, but haven't found much yet. I want something I can print out pictures and stick in but also has room for writing notes about firsts and such.

My mom kept a calendar and wrote in "first tooth," "rolled over," etc. on the different days for a year or so.

I've also considered keeping a journal specifically for baby stuff, but I'm not sure if I'll do that or just write it all in my normal journal. I write all about what's going on in my life in my journal already, which includes what's happening with H or my parents or siblings, etc. so it wouldn't be out of place.

  • This is what I used for DD.

  • I got a similar book as @shmarpler. I used to print out pic and keep them in a photo album, but now I just make a shutterfly book once a year for her whole year of pics instead. I also write letters to my kids while I am pregnant of things I want them to know or stories they should know and how my pregnancy with them went.

  • I have a book for my son filled with all kinds of things I need to organize and a calendar for my daughter.  I also make them a yearly book on Shutterfly filled with pictures of them from that year.  They can get a little pricey, but they love looking at them and I usually wait until I have good coupon codes to order them.

  • I use Project Life albums with the card sets that you can get with them. There's a ton of room for pictures and the cards are good for prompts, memories, etc.. I absolutely love it because it doesn't require you to do any cutting or sticking (which I am not good at). They can be a bit expensive, but to me it's completely worth it. I used the Emily Ley baby girl cards for my first and ordered a second set for DD2. I also keep track of daily memories and milestones in my planner so I don't forget anything
  • Each child has a baby book similar to the one posted that I record firsts and important info in, but every year I complete a year in review photo book on shutterfly for each child and print them too (you can write/type in these too) and if you're not crafty, they basically take the guesswork out of it for you.
  • I use a baby's first year calendar but I'd highly recommend keeping notes in your phone calendar so you don't forget anything and can just sit down with the paper calendar at the end of the month.

I also do Shutterfly books, but I'm woefully behind and should really catch up before baby. Shutterfly books can be ordered with these little plastic pockets in the back in case you collect scrapbook type items (like hospital bracelets or museum tickets) and want to save those.
  • I just bought a plain journal. I would date it and record things. This allowed me to do more than record firsts. I recorded funny things that happened, trips we took, current toy obsessions, or phrases etc.  I am still adding to DS' although I have to get a new one soon, and I already started one for this LO.

  • With dd I had a plain journal and I write letters to her about whatever's going on in our lives. She has a scrapbook from my pregnancy and a Shutterfly book of her first year. I did project 365 with her as the subject, so a picture everyday of her. I'm on her second book. With this baby I'm doing a pea to pumpkin book for pregnancy, then starting him a journal too, or I will just make hers for both of them, I'm not sure yet. I will do project 365 for him and I want to do a once a week pic with the same backdrop for the first year.
  • I had registered for a baby book at BRU but my friend had one that I assume she got at a shower and didn't use so I just took that! It's pretty basic. You can add pictures and all the milestones. It goes up to 5 years.

  • I tried the baby book with my first and didn't keep up with it. I want to do a shadow box for each of them with their coming home outfits and ultrasound pictures etc. I also do a Shutterfly picture book everyear and you can type different things into it.
  • I like the idea of a shutterfly book and plan to do that as well, but I want something else I add to as time goes by instead of everything at the end of the year. My cousin does a shutterfly book of all the kids and family photos from the last year at the end of the year and gives it to the grandparents at Christmas. I would really like to start doing that as a tradition.
  • I'm a big scrapbooker so I was planning to make my own. Hoping I can keep up with it, but who knows. I did get a baby book as a gift I might decide to use. It's from Buy Buy Baby I think and has spots for journal and a couple of pictures.

I would love to scrapbook my own, but I don't want to invest in the supplies! I did a lot of scrapbooking when I lived at home, but that was with all my mom's supplies.

I do a family album on Shutterfly for us, then one for each set of grandparents for Christmas. I gear each of theirs towards things they did with DS, and add a few other pictures in (family photo shoots, etc).

  • We do a lot of albums on shutterfly and Mixbook, but I also like the Project Life kits.  We haven't purchased anything yet, but I imagine I'll probably do a PL one for the first year, then the printed books for after.

  • I bought one that had a million things to fill out for my son. Needless to say, I had a really hard time completing it! My advice is buy the more simple books!

  • I give props to those who actually finish filling these things out. I feel like I failed when I did my sons haha. I literally got to nine months and stoped. Good luck!
  • We started a gmail account for him and have sent a few emails during the pregnancy with pictures. We are also ask friends and family to send him a "welcome to the world" email introducing themselves once he arrives.

I found this on Etsy and really like it though $$$ https://www.etsy.com/listing/81893281/tight-bound-baby-memory-book-zoology?ref=cat_gallery_2

not sure if it will feel like too much to keep up with. @Ashcicle is this similar to what you had?

now I also feel guilt because I wrote down and saved info for my first but never put it in a book. Sooo that means I'm going to need to get 2 lol.
  • I bought one of Amazon after reading reviews! It's adorable and I can't wait to fill it out!
    heres the one I got
Baby Memory Book for First Five Years, Record Your Child's Development in a Keepsake Journal, For Boys and Girls, Modern Photo Album and Baby Shower Guestbook, 9 Inch x 11.5 Inch Cover https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXQU3RC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ftwazbN3A4NSV
  • I also have a CR Gibson first 5 years one and really like it for my DD. She's 18 months now and I still need to finish month 11 & 12, as well as special holidays etc but I really like the layout of it and I feel like when it's done, it'll include the most important things I'll want to remember/her to read about for her first 5 years  now just to get it up-to-date before baby 2 comes!
  • Oh damn, I didn't even THINK of Etsy!  Well, found how to pass the hours at work for the next few days!

  • I like the CR Gibson. I've actually managed to keep it updated for DS so far (though I'm behind on pictures, but those are easy enough to go back and add). It has a good mix of catergories and fun little sections without being overwhelming or going overboard. Not too pricey, either.
