Re: FTM Check-In 4/25

  • 1) How far along are you? 13w2d
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Last week we had our first trimester screening which included an ultrasound. The baby was moving around - flips, waving his/her arms, and covering her/his little face. It was so special!!! OB appointments about every four weeks and we have the anatomy ultrasound the end of May.
    3) Cravings/symptoms? Unfortunately nausea/vomiting has come back this week - what the heck?! However, food aversions are fading which is nice. I think DH was probably getting tired of pancakes and bagels (the only two things I could tolerate) almost every day.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? No
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Not right now!
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do? This is difficult! Because I can't think of a more imaginative answer, just to find a way to make everyone happy for the day.

  • @kyersten so sorry you're nausea/vomiting is back :(

    1) How far along are you?
    10w3d
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
    Nope
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
Still all about that Subway tuna melt and a hot dog.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
Just looking forward to my appointment next week and the reassurance it will bring.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
I ordered some belly bands and they were stupid expensive in my opinion. $19 for a circle of fabric? I'm going to wear one around the house to see if I even like it enough to keep.
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do?
Fix food distribution. There's enough food in the world to feed everyone, it's just distributed poorly. There's no reason relief workers should find people in a remote part of South Sudan eating nothing but boiled tree leaves for a week because that's all they have. Also, ending all kinds of terrorism and preventing it further would be pretty cool.

:/@kyersten that is so cool you could see the baby moving! Sorry your nausea and vomiting is back

@Duchessofcambridge tuna is okay during pregnancy right? I've been eating tuna at least once a week so I sure hope so...

    1) How far along are you? 10w6d, cant wait to almost be in the 2nd trimester!
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? 2 more weeks till we see our LO again
    3) Cravings/symptoms? Still tired, peeing CONSTANTLY and sometimes I'm nauseous. Otherwise feeling pretty good.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? I'm back on track with working out which is so nice. Also just 2 more weeks of clinicals and this crazy busy schedule and then I am almost done with my masters!
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Nope not right now, hopefully once I'm done with school I can focus more on pregnancy and I'm sure I'll have a million questions then!
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do? Honestly just world peace with no violence or hate for just a day would be nice.

  • @safinn21 totally a personal decision. I'm being extra cautious about everything and eating no fish since my prenatals give me what I need in terms of omega benefits. Might change with my next pregnancy but with this one I'm all about following all the rules. I will, however, have a Hebrew National hot dog this weekend, grilled to 160 degrees by DH :)

  • 1) How far along are you?
    11 weeks tomorrow!
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
No appointments until May 9th  :/
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
Well I haven't been able to eat very much at all because of the MS but the more I see about tuna, the more I want some. And I haven't had tuna in years lol. Yesterday I was craving salt and vinegar chips.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
My appointments so far have only been to confirm I'm pregnant and then giving blood/urine samples. I've yet to hear anything about genetic testing. Should I bring it up or do you all think maybe waiting until my next appointment?
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
HOW are you deciding what to put on a registry? It seems so overwhelming.
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do?
The typical make the world a better place thing. It would be a very busy day.
  • @destinyd8 the Baby Bargains book is so helpful with the registry! I was pretty overwhelmed and it made me feel so much better by telling me all the basic necessities I'll need as well as some extra gadgets. Love that they did all the research for me. Genetic testing was brought up at my first prenatal visit. We just did the sequential screen since I'm low risk and nothing else is covered by insurance.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge did you just order it online? My number one fear when registering is not putting the necessities on there or asking for things that might be considered too expensive. The expense part isn't so bad because my family and friends are typically over the top with babies lol but My fiancé and I would prefer to get the really expensive stuff ourselves.
  • @destinyd8 yes, off Amazon! I preordered the new edition a while ago and it just got delivered yesterday. I read (heavily skimmed) it cover to cover last night.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I totally understand. Most things I'm being very careful with too, but a lot of the recommendations I roll my eyes at (but still follow). Good for you for giving into the cravings and getting a hot dog - hope it's amazing!

@safinn21 now I'm flip flopping because nitrates and cancer. Annoying.

ETA: I do not mean any of my food choices to cause alarm for other moms-to-be, I am overly cautious and many women eat what I am avoiding and they have beautiful healthy babies. Don't want to come across as fear mongering!

  • @DuchessOfCambridge - see if your grocery store has Applegate Farm hot dogs! They are, by far, the "healthiest" hot dog I've found. I'm pretty careful about what I feed my kids and those get a thumbs up from me (as far as processed meat goes).

  • @DuchessofCambridge You can buy nitrate free versions of most meats - sausage, bacon, hot dogs, etc. I have to avoid nitrates because of migraines anyway. That's how I justify my sausage egg and cheese sandwiches last weekend.... lol.
  • 1) How far along are you?

    8 weeks, 4 Days

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?

Next week! Next week! Next week!

    3) Cravings/symptoms?

Exhaustion, nausea, food aversion. My sainted husband keeps trying so hard to make nutritious, vitamin filled meals and all I want to eat is bagels and pasta.

I had the cliché of all cliché’s yesterday and craved pickles. But not with ice cream…. Yet.

    4) Rants/raves/concerns?

Next week after the appointment we’re going to tell our parents. I’m a little apprehensive. Everyone is going to be happy, but everything is going to change once other people know. Also, I don’t really trust my inlaws not to post it on Facebook immediately no matter what we tell them.

    5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Nope.

    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do? I liked what @duchessofcambridge said above about redistributing food. Maybe we can join forces and feed the world.

@safinn21 I think tuna is ok in moderation as long as we aren’t talking about some nice raw Ahi Tuna. (Yum.. miss that so much)

  • 1) How far along are you? 11 weeks 6 days
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? We received more if our genetics results yesterday and they were good. One test outstanding still. Anxiously awaiting appt next week.
    3) Cravings/symptoms? Symptoms come and go. Cramps and constipation today.  Lately I have been waking up during the night nauseous.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? It's probably stupid but I seemed to have lost 1 lbs this week but I don't look/feel it at all. But I am nervous because I haven't been vomiting and am eating normal. My weight normally fluctuates a few lbs normally so I guess it's probably ok but crazy me is worried.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask? This week is kicking my butt all around and I am soooooo over it.
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do? I would want to make some small difference, but I need to really think about this.

  • @safinn21 I eat Tuna once a week or so. I read It's fine.

@DuchessOfCambridge I bought some nitrate free bacon and it was really good!

@destinyd8 I would bring it up if you're wondering about it!

  • @DuchessofCambridge My honors thesis for my bachelors was on food aid in Ethiopia and basically how US AID spends too much of their budget on administrative stuff and barely gets anything done while the World Food Program actually sees results. Also i was looking into maternity shapewear and it's expensive. I like the style and fit of slimmer fitting dresses now that I have a mini bump, but my hips and thighs disagree a bit haha. I'll probably wait till we get back to the States anyway and can hopefully try on in store. And I need that Baby Bargins book! (even though my registry has been done for like a month). Even my grocery store here on base in Korea has nitrate free options for bacon, lunch meat, and sausages/hotdogs so you could definitely check and then heat them up/cook them properly.

@safinn21 There's a difference between Albacore tuna and white tuna, not sure though and I haven't finished my one half-caff coffee to go google it lol. I picked up some salmon burger patties that are a good serving size. I haven't seen salmon on many no-no lists and I don't eat it often anyway. I'm definitely less cautious than @DuchessofCambridge (sry for the double tag) and my baby is healthy and growing. It's all up to you, especially on a lot of the food things (even some people have tiny amounts of alcohol in pregnancy)

    1) How far along are you? 11+5
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? 12 week apt. tomorrow with starting genetic testing. I'm going to miss having an U/S every apt and an apt every 2 weeks.
    3) Cravings/symptoms? Nothing crazy. My appetite is coming back though and I'm trying to contain myself so I don't gain weight too fast. My mom never got GD but she ate a lot of Snickers and such and got huge with my sister, who ended up being a 10lb baby!
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? I have a bump! Like a FB picture worthy bump! In certain tops you can't tell but I got a slim fit dress in the mail yesterday (a LLR Julia) and I'm excited to post in the HDBD thread
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do? Make community service/public service after high school mandatory before receiving free college education (and provide said college education). It could be working at an inner city school, cleaning up oceans, whatever but something to benefit others.

  • @slaven I have been eating salmon in moderation.  I read it's actually good for pregnancy in moderation.

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? I had an appointment with my GP on Friday and it went great. She did recommend we definitely get the nuchal translucency screening/ultrasound done as there is a little bit of history with spina bifida on my side which does make me worry a bit! Our ultrasound is scheduled for May 9th.
    3) Cravings/symptoms? No cravings this week so far although all this hot dog talk sounds delicious!
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? I am worried about the spina bifida history. 2 of my cousins have it, 1 is paralyzed and in a wheel chair and the other is not affected by it at all & has 3 healthy children without any issues. I'm just a worrier and hope everything is okay!
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do? I'd take away taxes (property, income, merchandise, etc) everything is already expensive enough! (Or maybe I'm just bitter that I owe a little bit this year
  • @slaven @jess0211 I have read that too...I just don't like salmon lol. Unless it's a spicy salmon roll yum.

  • @jess0211 The only bad thing I heard from it came from DH who went to a nutritionist for himself and mentioned I was pregnant and apparently she said no salmon. Everything else I've read disagrees. He's probably just confused.

  • I fully intend to go through this thread later and catch up on everyone, I just don't have a ton of time ATM
    1) How far along are you?
    12 weeks
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Um. I think I had an ultrasound last week? Yeah I did. Yesterday is a blur how am I supposed to remember 7 whole days ago?
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
I'm not so bad for either , I'm pretty dizzy when I stand up though
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
I'm just so tired and overwhelmed all the time
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
Not that I can think of
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do?
I don't even know wheree I would start. Probably find a way to spread the wealth more evenly. Make gender equality actually a thing.
  • 1) How far along are you? 11+1
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Last week.  Heard the heartbeat.
    3) Cravings/symptoms?  Starving all the time. Issues with insomnia some nights but good besides that.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?  None right now.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Not right now.
    6) GTKY: If you got to rule the world for one day, what would you do?  I am terrible at stuff like this.

@swimsister I have the same apprehension on telling people.  I am afraid someone (most likely my inlaws) will post on Facebook before we can tell everyone we want in person.  We found out about both of my SIL pregnancies before she could tell us because of them so it isn't that big of stretch.
