1. Anything new this week? Changes you're feeling or appointments? I had my first pre-natal appointment on Monday and everything is going well. After some confusion, I finally got a date for my NT scan. It's on the 24th.
2. GTKY: Any plans for Easter? My MIL is down. I'm making a ham. Apart from that, it'll be pretty low-key, I think.
3. Any questions you want me to ask in future posts? not sure :-)
1. Anything new this week? Changes you're feeling or appointments? This week has been A LOT better. I'll hit the 12 week mark on Monday, so I'm pretty excited. We've been on spring break from our homeschooling and I've just been trying to play catch up and also prepare for the last weeks of our school year.
2. GTKY: Any plans for Easter? My son serves at the 8:00 Mass Sunday morning so we have to get seven kids up and out the door by 7:15, eek! Plus side is that it should be less crowded. We'll probably go to McD's for breakfast afterwards and may even let them pick from something besides the dollar menu, lol. Then home for the egg hunt for little ones. I"m making lasagna and carrot cake for our dinner (I don't know why lasagna...that's just what I wanted).
3. Any questions you want me to ask in future posts? I'd like to hear where people are from/what their area is like. How people have reacted to their pregnancy announcements? What their favorite thing is about the newborn stage (or what they imagine to be, if this is their first)?
1. Not much new - feeling good and telling more people since showing more. Had sex for the first time since got pregnant (I know looong but I'm a FTM and I've miscarried before and was so nervous! And didn't have much libido) but felt nice and was great to feel close to my husband. Have my NT next wed and feel surprisingly relaxed - hope and pray everything goes well. 12 weeks tomorrow wooo hoo! 2. Cooking Easter dinner for my in laws but otherwise not doing much - relaxing. Started reading Expecting Better and I really like it- based on data vs over cautious myths.
1. Anything new this week? Changes you're feeling or appointments? I re-did my NIPT test after the 10 week test was inconclusive. I also did a gestational diabetes test, which wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. I just needed a better book. Still really tired all the time.
2. GTKY: Any plans for Easter? I'm moving to a new apartment this weekend, so cooking is WAY out. My sister invited me to her in-laws (pretty common) so I may go have some ham with them.
3. Any questions you want me to ask in future posts? Is anyone else planning for a drug-free midwife experience?
Edited: Strike out my question. Just got the call that I have gestational diabetes and the whole drug-free midwife experience will not be happening for me. Being transferred to an obstetrics office and classified as AMA & high-risk.
1. Anything new this week? Changes you're feeling or appointments? i had my NT scan today so it was great to see baby boy. my doc recommneded it even though i tested negative for the maternit21 plus test. after i got the scan today, they said i didnt need to come in today. so confused! at least i got to see him though. 2. GTKY: Any plans for Easter? i am taking my mom to a gospel brunch at the HOB out here. it is so fun and it is a surprise. my parents are visiting so i wanted to treat her. after that, dinner and egg hunt with family. 3. Any questions you want me to ask in future posts? hmmmm, i will have to think about this one...
1. Anything new this week? Changes you're feeling or appointments? I had my NT scan on Thursday and it was such a relief to see the baby in there. They also did my blood draw. While going over paperwork with the receptionist, there was a spot to initial something like I'm not high risk so my ins may not cover this, blah blah. I signed it and shes like, "no honey you're not low risk!" Loud enough for the whole room to hear. It was nbd, but I still can't get used to the AMA thing, even though I was with my last baby too.
2. GTKY: Any plans for Easter? Usually we go to my inlaw's but MIL wanted to go out this year so we are having dinner at a restaurant. Fine with me, because it will keep it short and sweet. Although it is right at my 3 yo's nap time so that will be fun.
3. Any questions you want me to ask in future posts? Nothing off the top of my head.
@gpulle - I've been reading Expecting Better, as well!! I've found it to be helpful and interesting. But I'm on the labor chapters now. Trying to learn, but file that away for later and not think too much now about baby needing to come out. Eeek!
@melarowan - I'm sorry about the gestational diabetes!!! I worry about that as much as I like desserts! Guess it's good to find out early to take the best care of you and baby. But I'm imagining there are restrictions or extra monitoring that go along with it?
1. Anything new this week? Changes you're feeling or appointments? I had my 14 week appointment this past Monday. The lady I saw (I think she was a midwife?) was super nice and probably my favorite out of everyone I've seen so far. Baby is moving up and moving things so that something is putting incredible amounts of pressure on my bladder. Sometimes if I can stand up or walk the pressure will ease up. I have to go to a different office for my anatomy scan ultrasound. It needs to be a level 2 (I guess because I'm old. And probably also because I declined earlier screenings). But the good news is they do them a little earlier than my practice, so it is scheduled for May 10th!!!!
2. GTKY: Any plans for Easter? Going to church in the morning. My sister is having lunch at her house and my mother in law is having dinner. I need to muster up some energy to get up and make a cheesecake for tomorrow.
3. Any questions you want me to ask in future posts?
@melarowan If it's any consolation, I have dealt with GD for six of my seven pregnancies and controlled my sugars just through diet and exercise. I won't even bother getting the test for this pregnancy but will just start testing my blood sugars at home. I had three unmedicated births (one in the car, two at home) and the rest at the hospital just because the midwife retired. They will probably send you to a dietitian who is almost guaranteed to give you strange information like eating cookies for snacks (??) but I had success with a low carb diet (I would send my food log in with my blood sugar readings and my OB was happy with both).
@KDeola I've been fortunate in that my OBs don't generally make a big deal about age but it still drives me nuts. I'm still not convinced one becomes magically higher risk on their 35th birthday, especially compared to others who drink or smoke or eat only junk, etc etc.
I've been slacking here big time and I'm sorry! 14 weeks tomorrow. My BP was up at my 12 week, so I go back Thurs to check it again. If it's still elevated we do pre-e workups, which has me pretty scared. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've never once before had a high BP reading. I did have a respiratory infection at the time so fx that is why my BP was up. But. I'm still nervous.
Easter dinner was fun and simple. We also did an egg hunt for the little guy in the morning!
@KimberlySue5683 We have a blood pressure cuff for home that's easy to use and wasn't too expensive. It may help your peace of mind to get one (plus it may help you from having to go back to the office more often). Good luck on Thursday!
1. Anything new this week? Changes you're feeling or appointments? Less nauseated and tired but the headaches are kicking in and I'd gladly take nausea over a daily headache. I hope these go away soon!
2. GTKY: Any plans for Easter? None, really. DH works shift work so he made the commute (he works four hours away) on Sunday, so it was just me, the dog, and a frozen pizza. A whole frozen pizza.
3. Any questions you want me to ask in future posts? For those of you who have had the Panorama testing, was the 7-10 business days pretty accurate for when you got your test results? I just had my blood drawn this afternoon so, of course, am now totally waiting on pins and needles for the results.
Hello! It's my first post on this thread... I'm 40 and expecting my first.
1) No appointments. I'm stunned at how little attention I'm going to get from my midwives! Here in France the government has decided there are scans at 12w, 22w, 32w and a midwife chat once a month. No special treatment for being over 35 or even over 40 even if I clearly don't have a clue what I'm doing or what to expect. Guess I'll just have to pull this pregnancy thing off like a young'un!
2) Easter with my family, post-Easter with DH family.
3) I'm interested to know what young mums really think of us oldies. I expect to look like I'm Grandma when I'm at the school gates, but still hope to make friends with others who have kids the same age.
@lizgirlie - Welcome! Is it more common in France to have midwives instead of a medical doctor? I've been to both my regular doctor and a midwife only practice. In my experience, the midwives have fewer appointments that they schedule.
I think the age thing is funny, too. I know I'm 37, have a career, etc (teaching!), but I've never actually had a child of my own. I was expecting them (doctor's office) to tell me way more information at my first appointment or two! Couldn't imagine being 20 and just being handed a bag of reading materials!
I already know I'll be one of the "old moms" dropping her kid off at kindergarten! Hope I don't get mistaken for grandma, either!

That's too bad you feel that way about your midwife care! Can you simply request more care? I'm in Canada and in my last pregnancy I had more appointments because I was worried and wanted to be extra cautious. The appointment schedule is set out to be monthly but after 6 months it's twice a month and then weekly in your last 6 weeks. I have a team of 4 midwives also so s page is returned within 2 minutes or less. And after care is at home every 4 days after you return from the hospital. This is still so much more than the care my friends have felt they got from an OB. It's my understanding that midwives are super common over in Europe and still rising in popularity here. Maybe there is more demand than they can keep up with where you are?
@joforyoga: did having extra appt help your anxiety? I was AMA my last pregnancy and I found every 6 weeks was fine, especially after a normal anatomy scan and baby started moving. I especially declined those late trimester extra visits. I had the nurse line, my OB email, and I knew when to go to L&D.
I personally found my visits to be more anxiety provoking than anything.
