Re: April IUI

  • I have a question for you ladies. As much as I hope this third IUI was successful, do you have an idea of how many IUIs you will try before going to IVF?

@JaeJayStark my doctor said 3 clomid + iui cycles and then we move to IVF. I really hope this will work because I just cant imagine taking more/stronger medication. Last cycle clomid made me a depressed, constantly crying, evil biatch :)

  • Had my u/s and blood work- tech said I had 1 -11 on the left and 1- 13 on the right (which is my blocked tube)- nurse said I had 4 follicles developing. I need to take gonal-f injections the next three nights and go back in on Monday for another check. So my iui will be sometime this next week. @Irisheyes81 still feeling pretty miserable. Hopefully I can get some rest and start feeling better. @funkykey how are you doing??

@JaeJayStark. My doctor said to think of it in 4 blocks. However, we are dealing with MFI. She said she based this concept on the chances of conceiving naturally every month (20-25%).

  • @kristimh80 good luck tomorrow!! My IUI hurt this time. Luckily I have @JaeJayStark on speed dial. It was like she hit the top of my uterus and it sent this shock wave. I jumped. She's the worst nurse. I hope yours is better.

@bpietronicco  let's hope those follicles on the left grow and grow! Sounds like they are. I still feel so bad too. These adult colds are bullshit.

I went to see my acupuncturist this afternoon and I think after that my follies even grew more. Now I can hardly sit and it's pretty painful. Now I'm concerned if I ovulate on my own before I go for trigger tomorrow. Ugh! By my calculation they will be around 24mm around ovulation . Are they too big?
  • @Ilky are you on clomid? I've read that ideal size is 18 to 30mm on clomid. I was worriwd mine weretoo big too. https://www.advancedfertility.com/clomid-treatment.htm

  • Thanks everyone for the kind words
I started spotting this morning which happens every month before AF. I'll wait until my test results on Tuesday, but ... looks like I'm out. SIGH! I've decided to take at least one cycle off before trying again because I think I need a bit of time to recover from the hormones. <3

  • Hi everybody!

I had my day 3 blood and scan this morning and I just took my first gonal-f injection of this cycle, so I'm joining the April fun!

My actual IUI will be in May... probably the 4th or 5th. It's our second IUI with injectables. They upped my dose a bit from last cycle, as I only had one measly follicle. Hoping for a couple of big old juicy ones this month!

Good luck everyone. Looking forward to seeing some BFPs rolling in!!

  • Oh no...so sorry to hear that @Irisheyes81, hope your doing better now! I'm not sure what's worse, the anticipation of it all or now our 2 week wait.

  • @JaeJayStark We'll do up to 6 IUIs before moving to IVF, at the recommendation of our RE. FWIW my friend was telling me today it took her friend five IUIs before she got her BFP.
  • So I got distracted yesterday and I was 2 hours late giving myself my second day injection. I hope I didn't mess anything up :( and now I have to figure out if I use the new time tonight or go back to the original time. This whole process is so stressful. @megmac2010 welcome!!! Good Luck!!

Do you ladies know how long the egg lives? I had the first iui this morning and just one hour ago around 3:30pm I started to ovulate. The second iui is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I'm now thinking it will be more than 12 hours by the time I get insaminated. I'm thinking maybe there is no point to do second iui. What do you guys think?
  • J1006J1006 member
I believe an egg needs to be fertilized 12-24 hours after ovulation. Don't quote me on that though.

I do know that the doctor I'm working with said she never does 2 IUIs in one round. It's better to have one really good timed IUI than two ok timed IUIs. She has only performed 2 IUIs in one cycle once and that was due to patient request. It may be worth a call to your doctor to discuss.
  • I asked my RE about 2 IUIs because I have read several people getting them and she said since DHs count is good that it is not needed and didn't want me to pay for something that wouldn't increase the odds.
  • IlkyIlky member
Thanks ladies. My doctor does back to back iui's. The office is only open till 12pm on the weekends so maybe that's why they are doing back to back so to cover both end of the ovulation. I think I'll get it done because if I cancel I'll feel regret or doubt my decision.
  • Had my follicle check this morning and waiting for the nurse to call with results/next steps. Right now I have 2 bigger follicles- 18 on the right and 12 on the left- however my right side is blocked :( I am hoping they have some ideas to get the left side to grow or maybe there will be a miracle and the right side will make it through the blocked tube- putting myself through this all month (as I know you all know) just seems devastating to not be able to have the iui.
  • @bpietronicco
What CD are you on? They often can give you meds to help that 12 grow!!

AFM, 8dpiui here and I am sooo proud of myself for not testing. I usually test at this time but I am trying to hold out a little bit longer. Best case scenario I wait until Wednesday. When do you all start testing?

@Ilky you know what's best for you so do your thing. Wishing you great success! Question for you and sorry if I'm ignorant but how do you know exactly when you are ovulating?

  • @llky I heard the egg can live for 12-24 hours depending on the person.  I had an IUI at 11:00 am and I know I ovulated around 6:00pm.  I feel like another IUI the next day or TI would be beneficial.  If it's covered by insurance, I would do it.  Might be too late for this discussion :)

@bpietronicco Hopefully the 12 takes off! I had one go from 11 to 17 in 3 days this month. It can happen.

  • @JaeJayStark I am CD 13 but usually ovulate around CD 16 (at least before being on all these meds). Waiting to hear from the nurse still. Fingers crossed all goes well. As for testing- I just wait for my betas- I can't bear to see another negative HPT.

@JaeJayStark I always knew when I ovulate because it hurts! Basically, the side that I ovulate from becomes super tender, I get bloated and in pain. So I just lay down. But, this time, I ovulated from three follicles and the pain was excruciating. I was in bed from 4pm till this morning :(

@Irisheyes81 my insurance doesn't cover anything but I did it anyway. I rather pay extra money than feel regret. :)

kristimh80 Did you take clomid or are you on progesterone? Last cycle I felt so tired too but I attributed to the hormones.

@irisheyes81 yes! Now, I'm going to be a good girl and not test until the 12DPO. How many DPO are you?

@Funnygirl34 have you tried acupuncture? I went to see my acupuncturist 2 times before I got triggered and follicles grew 2.5mm each day. And, lining got thickened too. Maybe you can give it a try?

  • @funkykey and @Funnygirl34 I go back in on Wed for another ultrasound and bloodwork- they upped my gonal-f dose for the next 2 nights and put me on Estrace. She is pretty sure I will trigger on Wednesday. So iui probably Thursday or Friday so right behind you ladies! Good Luck!!
  • @Ilky  I was on Femara and follistim. Triggered Friday and had my IUI Saturday morning. I'm about to start progesterone, but it usually doesn't affect me much. Probably tired from my hormones being all over the place lol

  • Thinking of everyone and wishing you all luck during this 2 WW.

JaeJayStark my re suggested only 3 IUI due to my age and DOR. We are meeting with him on Friday to discuss IVF.  However he has told me I need  to lose 30lbs and I have lost 10 so far but will need to really focus.  Hoping that we can do IVF in July or August.
  • @funnygirl34 Try not to get super discouraged yet! I have PCOS too and we are great at producing a sh!tton of follicles and having them take time to mature. They will.  My last two medicated cycles were LONG.  My IUIs were on CD 18 and 19 and I guarantee the follicles were right at 20, if that.  I have stopped considering myself the 28 day cycle type.  Even medicated.  It's just not part of the equation with PCOS. What are they doing for your testosterone?

@llky I am 4DPIUI right now. I struggle with POAS. I mean I can physically do it :D  but I have seen too many negatives and feel like waiting for my period to come or the date of the beta takes all the guess work out. However, this month I will be testing 14DPIUI.  I'll be out of town and feel like I need to know. I'm also doing acupuncture this time and I feel like it's really helping.  I have the next session 7DPIUI.  I'm also getting progesterone checked instead of the convoluted way my RE tries to produce progesterone that's expensive and i'm not sure actually works.  How are the suppositories for you?

@lmajin99 congrats on the decision to move on to IVF.  I researched it all day yesterday. What is your AMH if you don't mind me asking?

@lindyc13so sorry, hang in there :(

@Irisheyes81 I never took the pill version but progesterone suppositories suck! First of all, its messy and leak so you have to constantly wear panty liners. Second, i had mild to strong cramping during tww, not sure if it was related to progesterone but what else could be? I just started taking them again (400mg x 2) on DPO2. We'll see how this time will go...
